Events: GB Film Danzas Days to Premiere at Red Hook Film Festival

Sunday, October 17 · 2:30pm – 3:30pm

The Brooklyn Waterfront Artist’s Coalition’s Screening Room
499 Van Brunt Street
Brooklyn, NY

Danzas Days is a raw exploration of an even rawer space. Part skate video, part video diary, the film evokes the innocence of youth, even while capturing its loss. A group of Brooklyn teenagers, including director Joseph Mikos, spend one memorable summer transforming an abandoned Gerritsen Beach restaurant, club & swimming pool into a homemade skate park and BMX track. And then the wrecking ball arrives.

You can see our screening schedule on our website here:
http://redhookfilmfest.com/html/screening.htm

And on our myspace:
http://www.myspace.com/redhookfilmfestival

All of our screenings will take place on October 16th and 17th, 2010, from 1pm to 6pm. We screen inside a Civil War era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront, located at BWAC (The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition). As usual, all of our screenings are free and open to the public, and we will have free popcorn and free Steve’s Key Lime Pies (while supplies last!)

Massive Group Shot

The Sixth Annual Timmy “the Tub” Girardot Pagan’s/Women’s softball game was held this past weekend on a sunny Saturday, Ocotber 2nd at Larry Veiling Field. The fundraiser had it’s most successful year ever, raising over $12,000 for breast cancer. The proceeds of the event will be donated to the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Prospect Park on October 17 by Gerritsen Beach’s Team Hope. Team Hope leader, Jinny Le Donne Hanson, was honored at the game for her ten-year anniversary of being a breast cancer survivor.

SAFEEE!!

The softball game is designed to be an all day fundraiser where the Pagans play the entire woman’s league.
The Pagans played the Red Angels, Lunachicks, Bahama Mamas, Silver Bullets, Bombers, Dangerous Curves.

The day could not have happened without help from the community. Many thanks to Greg Londis, Dennis Lage, Phil Parker, Billy Sten, and Richie Tumbleson who all pumped water off the field at 11 pm the night before and then meticulously did the grounds keeping that morning. Also many thanks to the generosity of GB Cares, with their donation and use of their property and equipment. Thank you to Bill Dash and Tom Donovan for all of their help, Chris who cleaned up before during and after the whole event, Ernie Blundell for his efforts, Todd Bilgore who volunteers his music every year, Sean O’Rourke who donated the Port o Potties, Mr. Logan Manager of Keyfood for Donating all the hamburger/hot dog rolls, and Freddy Barone for donating all of the meat. Special thanks to all of the cooks: Pete Walsh, Stevey Londis, and Joe DeSimone and thanks to everyone else who contributed, participated in the games, and came out to support the event.

If you would like to join Team Hope on October 17th in Prospect Park, please e-mail Jinny Le Donne @ Jinny625@aol.com

Events: 6th Annual Pagans/Women’s Softball Game

10_Softball_flye

The Annual Timmy “Tub” Girardot Pagans /Women’s Softball Game has become a neighborhood tradition in Gerritsen Beach, for good reason. The game raises boat loads of money for the American Cancer Society. Each year the proceeds are brought to the Prospect Park Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk by a group of Gerritsen Beach residents registered as Team Hope. Team Hope is the only non-commercial group on the American Cancer Society’s list of top ten Brooklyn fundraisers. The success is an example of how one small Brooklyn Community can make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.

The Great Irish Fair was a success … as it celebrated 29 years last weekend. With rides for the kids and local Irish bands for the adults, plus food and beverage for all with Irish goods for sale in the back, it was truly a “great day for the Irish” and everyone else who showed up.
