There were roofs flying off, house siding flying everywhere, the water at the point was flowing onto the street, there was flooding everywhere, trees falling basically on every block, the Tamaqua started to lose docks.
IT’S CHAOS OUT THERE!
If you can’t tell from the pictures and video below, the current, the winds, and the waves were eroding the point and pushing the sand down creek. It created a sandbar all the way down to Dare Ct.
How did everyone fair without power? We hear the the Old Section came up hours before the New Section.
In a bit of odd news a Peppridge farm truck broke down right in the middle of the avenue blocking traffic for a bit. The driver rushed to move his vehicle out of the way while taking all of the bread out of the truck to wait for (presumably) another truck.
It’s not everyday you see Gerritsen Avenue lined with plastic pallets filled with amazing double wrapped bread.

I was just leaving the mall today and just missed seeing this accident. From what the driver of the ambulate was saying, a car cut him off and caused him to swerve to avoid the car then mount the sidewalk hitting the light pole and then flip. People rushed to the scene to help open the van’s back. Luckily there was no one inside. The driver of the van also looked unhurt (the man in the blue jacket in the last shot.)
There was a two alarm fire at 77 Bevy Ct at Channel Avenue at the home of Tom and Phylis Hayes.
Unfortunately, most of the are hydrants were all frozen including the one directly across the street from the home. Firefighters were rushing lines from as far away as Gerritsen Avenue to supply water. News 12 reported the first seven fire hydrants firefighters tried to use were frozen solid.

I don’t know if there’s actually any relation between the accident and the divider, but I guess we will find out. Looks like the truck was coming up Ave U and wanted to make a left onto Gerritsen.
6 Landis Ct., an empty lot, on Monday, 8/3 a back-ho was attempting to level out the land, and crashed into the telephone and electric cables that run across the lot, causing a domino effect of damage to 5 houses on both Landis and Merit Ct. The high voltage electric wires dropped and came to rest on a metal chimney. The electricity actually arced and caused a hole to be burnt into the chimney.
The empty lot, which stretches from Landis ct. to Merit ct., has been neglected and over run with weeds for many years. It was legally supposed to have construction fencing around the property to protect the public from the numerous hazards and holes located on the property. According to the Department of Buildings there are numerous violations. The owners name is Frank Loccisano.
According to residents, this situation has festered for many years, and complaints directly to him have fallen on deaf ears.
The properties damaged and effected are 10 Landis Court, 3 Merit Court, 7 Merit Ct, 9 Merit Court, 11 Merit Court.
It turns out that the only reason the back-ho was leveling out the land, was because the city was coming to do it for the owner this Friday, then bill him, after ignoring numerous orders to do it himself. So he hired a unlicensed and uninsured contractor from the neighborhood to do it on the cheap.
Con Ed has still not replaced the pole, they are waiting for a liaison with Verizon to go forward.
A cricket player was struck by lightning this afternoon in Marine Park!
Patrick Gibson, 41, was barely breathing, legs badly burned and his clothes were totally destroyed when he was hit by lighting collecting cricket off the field.
No word yet if this man survived. Local EMT’s say the man was DOA.

Since both the suspect and victim were drunk George Andersonthe driver driver gets: 16 weekends in jail, 200 hours of community service and pays a $350 fine.
A theory called “comparative negligence,” was used which is something usually seen in civil cases where plaintiffs are assigned a portion of the blame for their own injuries.
When police led 48-year-old George Anderson away in handcuffs a year ago, the Wall Street executive was facing possible manslaughter charges and a seven-year prison sentence for the DWI hit-and-run death of Brooklyn secretary Florence Cioffi.
The 59-year-old woman was run down and killed on the evening of Jan. 24, 2008 by Andersen’s black Mercedes SUV and the CEO of Enterprise Engineering left the scene only to return 20 minutes later refusing a breathalyzer test. Now Cioffi’s family and her companion of 18 years say they’re outraged at the deal Anderson has made with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office that they say is a slap on the wrist.
Anderson has agreed to a plea deal in which he’ll admit to misdemeanor DWI charges and a charge of leaving the scene of an accident, but he’ll only serve 16 days in jail and do that time on eight consecutive weekends. He also agrees to do 200 hours of community service and pay a $350 fine.
Prosecutor David Hammer said that victim Florence Cioffi had a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit.
“An intensive investigation by the defense and prosecutors revealed she probably stepped out from between two parked cars,” said Anderson’s lawyer, Stacey Richman.
A fire tore through apartments 4e, 5e, and 6e at 2240 Burnett Street (Brooklyn, NY 11229) today, and although there is no official explanation yet, people were saying it might have been an air conditioner.
No one was seriously injured from the fire itself but one resident suffered a heart attack. The gentleman is believed to be retired NYPD member Ed Bauer, but this has not been confirmed. There are conflicting reports that the heart attack was fatal. (pictured above)
Another older gentleman was also taken to the hospital.
Full Disclosure: The name of the gentleman and his health status are unconfirmed.
The family of Frank Solivan is suing Patrick Donovan in Kings Civil Supreme court over the accident that killed Frank Solivan on May 24th. Patrick was the other vehicle involved in the accident.
Last year, The Solivan family was sued for negligence and wrongful-death, after Frank Solivan allegedly punched out Antonios “Tony” Fasarakis, killing him. Solivan initially was charged with misdemeanor assault, but the case against him was dismissed in December after Queens prosecutors declined to pursue the case.
