Resurrection Sports: Yankee Roses and the Angels Championship

The 2008 CHAMPIONSHIP game for Resurrection Girls softball was held on June 26, 2008. The game was a nail bitter between the Yankee Roses and the Angels.
The Yankee Roses led 11 to 4 with Jenny Hosty’s homer and Rocine’s 3 run home run after 4 innings. The Angels pitcher Nicole Oppedisano (2 for 3 with walk and 2 runs scored) and great fielding by Angels held the Yankee Roses scoreless over the next 3 innings. The Angels comeback started in the bottom of the 5th with a single by Cheyenne Tatesure (4 for 4 with 3 runs scored) and a 3 run homer by Domonique Valdez to cut the Yankee Roses lead to 3 runs.
In the bottom of the 6th with bases load and 2 outs Domonique Valdez (4 for 4 with 2 runs scored) smashed a GRAND SLAM to put the Angels ahead 12 to 11. The Yankee Roses fought back in the top of the 7th to load the bases with only 1 out. Then short stop Amelia Quarto (4 for 4 with 1 run scored) made the force play at home with catcher Jamie Wheeler holding on to the ball for the second out.
The last play was a come backer to pitcher to get the out at first. Coach Don Ernst said “All the Girls help us win during the season and kept us in this game. Our MVP must be Domonique Valdez for her 2 out Grand Slam to win the game.”
This was a great way to end the season for the players in their last year Andrea Ernst ( All around Team Player), Emily Gambino (Speedy), and Nicole Oppedisano.
