There is an epic battle being fought “Back Weeds” at the recently paved airplane field. It’s being fought between the Radio Controlled Society of Marine Park (RCSMP) and the legal/illegal street & dirt bikes. The street and dirt bikers have been aggressively riding there on the weekends while RCSMP members are trying to fly.

Even though the RCSMP is no stranger of vandalism, recently the harassment has taken a turn. They are constantly having to fight to fly in their own park that they maintain and pay for. The bikers (not “kids” mind you) have harassed, spit on, damaged cars , threatened violence,  and in some cases physically attacked RCSMP members.

Before the skate park, there were barricades in place around the field that blocked street access. Now there is a clear path to the airplane field from the street allowing street bikes. The dirt bikes always get back there but that has always been an issue and is for parks enforcement to handle.

Calls have been also made to NYC Parks (Fred Wilkins) by RCSMP members with NO RESPONSE. Calls have also been made to 911 with little or NO RESPONSE

Anger has peaked with RCSMP members and there is a group of members of the society are ready to turn vigilante THIS WEEKEND, if they don’t see any response from law enforcement.

Radio Controlled Society of Marine Park

Do you know what the RCSMP stands for? Its the Radio Controlled Society of Marine Park. They use, maintain and fly all types of aircraft on the airfield behind Seba avenue park.

Recently, kids decided it would be fun to rip out a whole bench from the RCSMP’s few remaining benches and then torch it in a steel 55 gallon drum. Is bench destruction a new thing?

I caught up with GBCares who was cleaning up the mess left and was able to get some pictures. If if were not for GBCares our overall quality of life would be dismal.

I saw a enormous vehicle pull up last night. This morning as I was taking pictures of seba ave park, it was gone so I went back weeds to figure out what it was doing.

It was doing alot. What was there before was an asphalt runway now its a fine moon like powder.

Well ladies and gentlemen. The Radio Control Society of Marine Park have no access to their own field.

The contractor that is doing the demolition to the property today fenced off the entire property. Previously it left the RCSMP swinging gate and the trail open. Today it’s been completely sectioned off.

We have found out that RCSMP was supposed to be involved in the planning of the park. There were left out due to the politics that were involved with all of the GB groups. Its stupid. They should be able to fly.

I’m afraid for their sign. It’s cemented in and in a fenced off property. It looks expensive. All the contractor needs to do it knock it over with the bulldozer.

The construction team just doubled the size. Way past the Flying Field Entrance. 165 Feet more.

The concrete blocks were also removed I have no idea where they went. I guess I missed them being removed. That would of been interesting to see.
That brings the size of GB Parks to:

• Seba Ave park:
  • 400 feet wide by 180 feet back
  • 72,000 Square Feet
• Dr. Johns Playground: (next to 277)
  • 230 Feet wide by 200 feet back
  • 46,000 Square Feet
  • That’s not including the handball courts or softball field.

This brings up some interesting questions

• What’s going to happen to GBCares? All of their equipment is based there.
• What’s going to happen to the Radio Control Society of Marine Park?

Well construction seems to be moving along. I guess this phase is just to secure the property for construction.
