A gunman opened fire on two men as they swam for their lives in the waters off a Brooklyn beach on Saturday, killing one and critically wounding the other, cops and witnesses said.

Cops are hunting for a pair of prowlers who have committed at least 11 burglaries at schools in Queens and Brooklyn. Police say the spree began in December when the duo broke into Our Lady of Grace school on 101st Street near 158th Avenue in Ozone Park, Queens. They are also believed to be responsible for the burglaries of the Blue Feather Elementary School in Gerritsen Beach, in December, police said.Cops say they committed a second burglary at Our Lady of Grace in January, as well as thefts in Queens Village, Fresh Meadows and Richmond Hill, Queens. Police are asking anyone with information regarding the school burglaries to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS. People can also text their tips to 274637, then enter TIP577. All information is kept confidential. You can even call the 61st to have help you out to see how to properly secure your business or home.
NYTimes – You Talkin’ to Me? Its always very nice to see GerritsenBeach.net mentioned in any media but I guess its always better to be in the NYTimes than lets say courier life. We even got top billing over other blogs such as Gowanus Lounge and Roosevelt Island 360.

Model Airplane Club and Dirt Bikers Contend for Use of Brooklyn Runway – NY Times Looks like the NY Times picked up on whats going on back weeds between the RCSMP and the dirt bikes. Its an interesting read, but its nothing that I didn’t say before when I broke the story. In response there was a stepped up effort to catch quads this past weekend back weeds but… Lets just say this, all of the “locals” walked away, then within minutes got their quads at another location only to return to taunt the park rangers by playing chicken and buzzing them on their quads. While a family of non local people all got summonsed at the point for their quads. To the taunters: doing what you did will only bring more enforcement down here and more than likely someone will end up hurt. Now I know of the parks department reads this site and I will say that understand that after the NY Times article that there had to be some sort of stepped up enforcement or something to show on paper that you gave out a summons, but do you/they have to are stupid about how you/they go about it? Just a couple of things I noticed this last weekend with the enforcement. The park rangers drive recklessly on the avenue & back weeds in their jeeps on the trails. Next time I post video of the stunts. They were also warning people about vehicles on the field while driving on the field.
They blocked the exit at Seba Avenue Park to block escape of whomever but they were ONLY blocking family’s with carriages and small kids. They wouldn’t move for anyone, 4 families had to lift every kid they had with carriages. I guess because there was a camera pointed at them they decided to help the last family lift a carriage over the rail. It would of been easier to move the idling jeep. Every single one of them is on a mini power trip. Does anyone remember “Excuse Me You Can’t Take Pictures of Officers Doing Their Jobs“? Oh, nice hiding spot. You do know that everyone has a cell phone and they knew where you were? Looks like this “small blog” made the paper.

Mike Nelson and Brooklyn View say “Blog Rumors are not true”
Blog Rumors Are Not True? Really?
Just to let everyone know, there are TWO sites in our part of Brooklyn where people can go and get news, GerritsenBeach.net and Sheepshead Bay Civics site and forum at SBPCivic.org.
If you have been following, Councilman Mike Nelson’s former deputy chief of staff Robert Varley recently went public with that Nelson told him to post things on the two area sites.
It was recently picked up by the Brooklyn View. Who ran the story with the title “blog rumors are not trueâ€. What blog are they talking about? SBPBCivic.org in their own article is called a forum, oh that’s right, this is the only “blog†they can be talking about, but let’s not credit this site properly. Let’s continue to STEAL images off the web and now stories. Then lets overuse the word “blog” until it sounds like you don’t know what your talking about. You know what fine, I burnt that bridge by calling you out for stealing images.
The article continues to say that Mike Nelson doesn’t read local blogs(why plural?), WHICH COULD NOT BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH. Why did he have his people get in touch with me to stop the comments on the original Manhattan Beach post that was bashing him? But I forgot he doesn’t read them because they have zero accountability. Apparently the post had enough credibility for him to want it to stop.
The article continued to say that they tried to contact Varley by email and he did not respond. He didn’t respond? He seemed like a responsive guy when I LOOKED HIM UP AND SPOKE WITH HIM. Nice reporting Brooklyn View. Boy did I learn a lot speaking with him. All of which will come later.
The Brooklyn View then got a MAJOR fact wrong. The user “City Insider†never attacked Nelson or his family. In fact nowhere on the SBPBCivic.org site does anyone ever attack Nelson. There were anonymous comments on GerritsenBeach.net directed at nelson and his wife, but that’s ok lets not credit anyone or get the facts straight.
Hey, Brooklyn View, can I talk to you over here for a second? If you could not get in touch with Robert Varley why even post RUMORS from blogs “with zero accountability�
Mike Nelson, you apparently you still can’t count, you said “…I’m not surprised they hide in blogs seen by 30 of their friendsâ€. That is so funny and clever! However, On my site alone I average 725 unique hits a day, some of which are from CITY HALL. That is alot more than your 30 guess. SBPBCivic.org forum is also very popular.
