The Lowes in Mill Basin lot has made some surprising progress over the course of the last few months.
Most surprisingly is this almost free standing wall, right up against Avenue U.

The 63rd precinct Night Out Against Crime!
Here is the photo gallery.
All of the area’s local civic groups were there including: Bergen Beach Civic, Fraser Civic, Mill Basin Civic, and Flatlands Civic.
There were rides from advark amusements, a huge spread of food, as well as pizza from La Villa, and Lenny and Johns.
There was supposed to be a parade around the block with all of the groups involved led by the Gerritsen Beach Marching Band, but the band was waiting for the groups to line up. Since no one did, they left without the 6 groups.
The “25th Annual National Night Out” (NNO), a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW).
Last year’s National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 35 million people participated in National Night Out 2007.
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
- send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

The investment companies that fund the Jemal’s Brooklyn projects in Mill Basin, Gerritsen beach and Sheepshead Bay have filed a civil suit against Stephen S Jemal and Sharon E Jemal in Texas Northern District Court.
The companies “Gerritsen Beach Investments Ltd” and “Riviera Investments I Ltd” filed their complaint on 7/14/2008 the cause is stated as a “Contract Dispute“.
The plaintiffs claim that the Jemal’s (Stephen and Sharon) have not paid them back $5,580,000 plus interest. The Jemals are also allegedly also refusing to pay them back!
Both of the investment companies are being represented by Todd Hoodenpyle of Singer & Levick
What does this mean for his existing construction projects? Time will tell.
For anyone that picks this up in the media, it would be really nice to have a credit for breaking this story.

For those that don’t know, Lowes, the Big Box Home Supply store is coming to our side of Brooklyn. They are setting up shop in what used to be the outdoor parking lot next to Kings Plaza.
The blue fencing is now around the property and the land nice and flattened.

For those that don’t know, Lowes, the Big Box Home Supply store is coming to our side of Brooklyn. They are looking to setup shop in what used to be the outdoor parking lot next to Kings Plaza.
Recently, at a Mill Basin Civic Association Meeting, residents expressed opposition to the plan. The plan is for the construction of a one-story, 120,000 square foot, free-standing building. The cost is expected to be around $11.5 Million.
Residents are concerned over the deterioration of the community and the increased traffic. Anyone of our readers who have been over there recently know the traffic is insane, from dollar vans, double parked cars, people crossing, and the entrance to the home depot is usually at a dead stop, never mind the weekends.
The Lowe’s plan, which has yet been seen by the community board, and local groups, contains plans for other retail stores to be located on the property.
The Home Depot next door may be relocated but there are no confirmed plans. Maybe they might be good neighbors.

The work has been ongoing since March, The bridge can sure use the work.
Constructed in 1942, it has outlived its useful service life. Age, weather, and increased traffic volume have taken a toll on the structure.
Work started in March and will continue through July 2007.
The re-decking of the bridge is still only a temporary, $6.8 million stopgap measure.
When the bridge was first constructed, it cost $1.39 million to build, according to the DOT.
