At this meeting, people were given the chance to discuss public safety issues and had their issues addressed directly by the people in charge; the 61st captain and the 63rd inspector. It wasn’t a large crowd. Around 75 people had signed in for the town hall meeting and judging by the seating arrangement there was a larger crowd expected. Some interesting concerns were raised at the meeting, but nothing was really new. The issues raised included motorcycles, ATV’s, and quads driving on city streets as well as cars parking at the point, and Jet Ski/Wave Runner launching at the point. Also some Marine Park residents were at the meeting to bring up Stewart Street which is a border street of the 61st and 63rd precincts. They were there to raise concerns of out of control “kids†and the lack of police response. All of the issues brought up were noted by the 61st and 63rd precincts and their respective community affairs officers. Some sort of action will be taken to address the concerns that were raised. For example, the 61st is stepping up patrols on Knapp Street in response to a motorcycle accident that occurred. They will be shifting patrols to include Gerritsen Beach with the main focus as Knapp Street. In addition, the 61st would like people to anonymously report names and home addresses that have illegal ATV, Quads etc so they can have the vehicles confiscated if they see them on the street. There were also representatives from the parks department explaining the Mau-Mau/White Island project, but I’m going to post that separately either today or tomorrow, so stay tuned. Here are some questions for all reading this: Was anyone planning on attending? If you didn’t make it to the town hall why couldn’t you attend? And for the people who didn’t think of attending, do you not care? If you can bear it the video is below: Just beware it is insanely long, boring and the audio at times is horrible. Funny thing is you will feel like you were there! Continue reading Marty Goldens Public Safety Town Hall Roundup The Cort Club held their annual Childrens Christmas Party on Sunday the 16th.
