Body Found At Point

The burnt, naked body found on a Brooklyn beach Sunday has been identified as a missing 14-year-old girl.

Law enforcement sources tell NBC 4 New York on Tuesday that the body found in Gerritsen Beach was Shaniesha Forbes, who had been missing since Friday.

14 years old and burnt. Found in the water. what a shame. Sounds like murder to me. God only knows what this young girl could have done in life. God rest her soul.

  • Anonymous

very sad. Still just a baby.

  • charles

    soo sad rip smh

  • Anonymous

Very sad indeed, however the article does not say that the body was dumped there. Could this crime have been committed right there at the point? Was this young girl maybe from the Sheepshead Bay houses? The only reason this is even news is because where the body was found. It is scary since Sandy happened many outsiders have entered the neighborhood thinking that its homes are vacant.I know stories where men have tried to start cooking crack right in front of abandoned houses and were chased away by neighbors that were there. Now a young girl’s body is found, not good !

    • Anonymous

I thought one report said there were beer cans and a gas can found at the point. Please correct me if i’m wrong here.

  • me

Is that guy walking a rabbit?

  • The Beacher

This is a strange story. A 14 year old ? As well as stories of people cooking crack in front of empty abandoned houses.Being that so many police officers live in the Beach the crack part of this should be able to handled by our residents. As far as the body goes I guess in time the reason will come out.

  • Anonymous

Yes the story did say that at the crime scene there was a bonfire that had been put out and that beer cans were also found there. Very strange , was it that this poor young girl wandered into a neighborhood that in the past has be known to be racist? As for the crack cooking , I know it to be 100% true and that when a neighbor told two men to stop doing this in front of his house, he was punched in the face before they sped off in their car. I don’t know, maybe the crack heads weren’t outsiders, but beach rats themselves.

    • Anonymous

Anonymous, I agree that this neighborhood is racist, and there is drug usage here as with all neighborhoods. I don’t believe that a 14 year old girl just wandered into gerritsen beach and was killed by anyone here. More likely she came with people she knew, some drinking and drugs at the point. Maybe the people she came with were so high they decided to rape her, or she was high and decided to have sex with them and changed her mind, she was nude. She could have fell into the bonfire and thats how she got burned and ran into the water to stop the burning. Whatever happened, it’s a shame that she died so young. May God rest her soul!

    • anon 1

I somehow don’t believe this poor young girl wondered into this neighborhood alone . I live across the street from the weeds and often see groups of young black kids going into the skate park as well as the back weeds at night.

  • Trainman

So Anonymous, you think this community is racist?
I for one and I’m sure many others logging onto this website would like to know what brought you to this conclusion. Is there some research, background checks, door-to-door surveys or any other reliable investigative research you did that you can share with us?
I live in this Beach for a long time and I’m not racists nor are my neighbors so I’d like to know what facts do you base this accusation on.

P.S.– Way before you posted your opinion (7:43 PM) it was reported that an autopsy revealed and determined the young girl did not die from a fire because there was no smoke in her lungs.

    • Anonymous

Trainman, lets not play the deaf dumb and blind game here. How many times over the years have black kids been beaten or chased out of the neighborhood? How many times were the laundomat and Yuri vandalized because of their ethnic background? Do you honestly believe people are coming from other neighborhoods to beat/chase black kids and vandalize stores owned by other ethnic groups? The have enough people of different backgrounds in their own neighborhoods to hate.

P.S. I never said she died of smoke inhalation, I just gave some genral ideas of what might have happened. For example: Since there were beer cans found at the scene was she drunk and fell into the fire? Did whoever was with her have to rip her clothes off because they were on fire and burning into her skin? Did she jump into the water to soothe the burns and she drowned? Or did they just leave her there on the shoreline and the tide took her out. I’m sure there are thoughts that go through the minds of police officers and detectives when they first arrive on the scene.

      • Trainman

Anonymous, of course there has been incidents that would reflect that SOME people that live in this community are racists. What you said was “Gerritsen Beach is racists”. Does that include you?
It’s that characterization I take exception to and you should also. It’s your generalization and trivialization of this subject that annoys me and I would imagine many other people that do not fit into that category you so blatantly put us in. The Beach is not immune to this kind of behavior any more than any other neighborhood in this city, state, country or world for that matter.

Because there was no smoke evidence in her lungs means that the burns occurred postmortem. I suspect your speculation on what happened to this poor girl also reflects the accuracy of your speculation of the character of the people who live here in our community.

P.S. if you are the Anonymous January 10, 2013 at 12:17 pm that offered the history lesson of our community my history of the Beach also dates back to the early 60s. All I can say to you is That Was Then and This Is Now.
It’s a shame that the only history of the Beach you choose to remember are the negative ones.

        • Anonymous

open your eyes trainman, the beach was the worst they treated people of differnt ethnic backgrounds like garbage filled with hate they couldnot walk down the ave. play sports, swim, fish buy a house without their race being abused. thats the real deal ask the folks who live their along time it was a mob who preyed on innocent people. thwe reputation was dont walk or ride in g.b. if you are not the right skin color .god knows the truth and any oldtimer if they are honest to tell or post the truth. mill basin, marine park, besonhurst just to name a few had a deep hatred for minority folks.

          • Trainman

Anonymous I honestly don’t know what the hell you’re talking about.
Are you still living in the 60s?
Were we supposed to be talking about the 60s when you said the Beach is racists or we talking about 2013? Are you saying that people of color can’t walk down the street today?
What time zone do you live in?
I see children of color on their skateboards playing in the park by Seaba Avenue. I see children of color riding bikes up and down the avenue and in the courts all the time without being molested by people you say live here. I see people of many colors and nationalities in our library every time I visit. I see people of color at Mass at Resurrection Church all the time. I also see children and adults of multiple nationalities and colors playing in our ballfields along the Avenue enjoying themselves all the time. Where is this massive racist attitude you’re talking about? Or is it only in your head?
You’re telling me to OPEN my eyes? Seriously?

          • Anonymous

trainman the only reason why you see different etnic backgrounds doing all kinds of social activities because the minority people rights today are much more protected, and anyone today will be charged with a hate crime, bias crime, violation of that persons civil rights, today you get locked up for saying anything racist to a minority person what you see at g.b. it is called condescending. the g.b. folks have no choice but to accept people of different ethnic backgrounds. asked the old time cops the 61 63 what the reputation of g.b.was then . it was disgusting they shuold of locked those folks up back then. remeber the CONDESCENDING.

There are so many anonymouses, that you might be replying to the same anonymous entering different statements each time or different anonymouses that are entering the same type of statements each time.
Each reply or statement should come from its own individual identity.
    Proposition.
If an identity is already in use by an individual then another identity would have to be created to be usable for that individual’s identity, e.g. Anonymous1, Anonymous2, etc.
Can Blog sites create a program to do this?
I know it could be said that a reply could be made to the statement itself but the replies that i read here seem to be replying to an individual.

    • The Beacher

J, I feel that people who post using anonymous just don’t have the guts to post their names. This way they can say what they want and no one knows who they are.The easy way out !

      • Anonymous

        • The Beacher

My point is at least you can identify a reply to a name or a title.J has a good point here. BTW all you anons hit the dislike button when someone posts what you do not want to hear. Give it a rest. Maybe anon 1 has the right idea. Now all we need is 2,3,4,5,6,etc. Also in reply to J many sites do not allow duplicate names. That is what should be the practice here. Sorry anons you might have to use a little imagination.!! Have any ??

in the 60, 70, 80,there was so much hatred for afican-american, hispanic and jewish people back then today most of those who yelled or threatened these folks today would be charged with a hate crime. thats why these days people watch what they are saying to each other. hard working couples in the past were interested in buying homes in the past word got around real quick g.b. punks destroy that property or come out and stare at them with hate. beacon ct. afican family tried to move in in the early 80s house was set on fire. their will always be racisim here and everywhere else.open your eyes the police have the reports in the past if the minority folks reported the incident i lived in the beach a very long time ask MR.George Broadhead he will you the truth about the beach then and anyone else who is honest to tell you the truth what happened then. today people are scared because it is a hate crime. to the young female who passed away and found along lois and gerr. ave rest in peace you didnot deserve this or anyone else. to folks who hit the dislike thats the plain evil and hate. she is someones child. god bless you and your family for your devastating loss of your child

Ok. I am not interested in knowing who is behind the same names such as Anonymous.
While I am scrolling down I am trying to fit the correct reply to the correct anonymous.
If there were not any same names then replies would be more connected.
Some programs do not allow duplicate names.
It is just an idea to simplify the reading and replying.

  • A CONCERNED PARENT

BEING A CONCERNED PARENT OF A DAUGHTER WHO HAPPENS TO ATTEND THE SAME SCHOOL THAT SHANEISHA DID I WANT THE POLICE TO NOT PUSHED THIS ASIDE AND GIVE THE PARENTS OF THIS CHILD SOME JUSTICE.UNFORTUNENTLY THIS HAPPENS TO OFTEN BECAUSE OF ASSUMPTIONS DID SHE KNOW HER KILLER? OR NOT THE POINT IS THAT SHE WAS KILLED HER FAMILY IS SUFFERING AND AS A CONCERNED PARENT I WANT TO KNOW WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE. MY DAUGHTER DID NOT PERSONALLY KNOW SHANEISHA BUT PASSED EACH OTHER HUNDEREDS OF TIMES DURING SCHOOL AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT I TAKE MY DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL AND PICK HER UP AND YOU CAN SEE IN THESE KIDS FACE THEY ARE FEELING TERRIBLE THIS COULD HAPPEN TO ANYONES CHILD RUNAWAY OR NOT PROBLEMS AT HOME OR NOT THERE ARE SICK PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT DONT THINK TWICE ABOUT MAKING FAMILIES SUFFER.

  • Anonymous

To the concerned parent, I too hope that the police do not forget about this case and it lands in the unsolved pile. I would like to know who is responsible for this and see them punished for it. Whether this poor girl as some suggested got drunk n fell into the fire (which I don’t believe) Or this was intentional (a murder) the bottom line is that girl was not there herself. Whoever was there with her, left her instead of calling for help. My thinking is if everything was accidental she got drunk, burned herself ripped her clothes off- then why would whoever was there not come forward- unless they are hiding something? AS far as the racist aspect of the story- I was the first to post about this yes Anonymous January 9th at 6:25 pm and I do know what I’m talking about having lived in the beach , I witnessed it myself. I am not one of these outsiders that post on this site. I am a born n bred beach rat and My neighborhood Gerritsen Beach makes me very proud because all in all most in our community are great people but, I also am realistic and know that there are also many drug addicts that are capable of anything that live here as well.Yes black children have come to use the skate park and Gerritsen Beach residents were not happy about it. In fact when the park was vandalized these so called outsiders were at first getting the blame, when in fact we know it was our own rotten apples doing it. The same ones that terrorized the neighbor hood on Halloween and harassed the store owners on the ave that were from different ethnic backgrounds. Just like When Sandy hit and some homes were burglarized, that too was our own rotten apples. So everyone go ahead defend the beach, but a true beach rat will always point out both the good and the bad- and if u don’t think there is any bad, where did you grow up? Oh, btw call me Mare instead of Anonymous- since that bothers some.

I am so sorry for the families loss. I live not too far from this area and the Bus driver that drives back there told me to be very careful. Unfortunately some of the people are very prejudice back there. I had a man in pick up drive up next to me & say what are you doing back here cursed and sped off.

  • Anonymous

cans of beer were found or 40 ounces of colt ?

  • Anon

I do believe this young girl was an outsider and brought to the point instead of having been hanging out there. Yes, there were beer cans and a fire, but there are ALWAYS people hanging out around the back weeds. As for the racist aspect everyone seems to bring in since the girl was black and could not be from Gerritsen Beach but the “Sheepshead Bay Houses”, that right there is the reasons why Gerritsen Beach IS still to this day considered a racist neighborhood. Does that mean everyone who lives here is a racist? Absolutely NOT. But I would take a wild guess and say 35% of Gerritsen residents would take a second look if they saw a group of black kids walking into New Dutch or to the skate park. Some of you parents need to pull your heads out of the damn sand. Let me give you an example of something some of you may be ignorant too, that I have witnessed my whole life growing up in this neighborhood. I have partied and spent a lot of my adolescent years hanging out back weeds and at the point with beer, fire and friends. I have also brought my black, Spanish , NON caucasian friends to party here simply because I loved the environment, the fun of building a fire and sitting around enjoying each others company. I also want to show some of my friends that had never been here that it’s not what everyone cracks it up too be. And you know what? They enjoyed it. People from Gerritsen were stand offish at first and got to talk to them and realize, yes believe it or not they are like them. Just kids looking to have fun and stay out of trouble. Now, I have also experienced a lot of trouble from hanging out back weeds when my black/spanish friends came here. Guess what? It was the Gerritsen Beach/Marine Park ‘war’ that has been going on for ever. One of those kids ended up in the hospital and later when the party had dwindled down two boys came at me with metal bats looking for the kids who put his friend in a hospital earlier that night. This neighborhood is my home and things like that make me hate it here. This innocent girl whose life was taken way too earlier is devastating. Look at it if she were your daughter, niece, sister. We need to stop identifying everything with race. We are all human beings. Let’s focus our energy on the hopes of finding the person that did such a horrific crime to this girl instead of making it about race. RIP Shaniesha Forbes.

    • Trainman

Thank you Aron for a great letter. Yours is exactly the point I was trying to make earlier in this thread but you did it so mush better. Like I was trying to tell anonymous earlier that just because there are insistence of racists behavior here in the Beach, that doesn’t necessarily mean everyone is racists. It just doesn’t make sense for a resident to publicly say his neighborhood is racists and wear it as a badge of honor. Why would a politician representing many neighborhoods want to associate themselves with a racist community in today’s climate?
Why would a politician wants to be known as someone who helps racists when it would be detrimental towards his/her reelection campaign.
      Thanks again Aron.

Seems to me once again each and everyone debating the hows and whys is missing the point. Racist or not …The “Community” of Gerritsen Beach did not kill the girl , A REAL LIVE SICK INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS DID ! Either at the beach or not…either local or not….either racist or not…None of that is the issue…The issue is a young woman was robbed of her life. If it was foul play and it certainly looks that way pray for justice for her and comfort for her family. And move past conjecture and second guessing and accusations and all the blah blah blah and get out and make a difference, parents ask your kids if they saw anything …kids are out at hours adults aren’t…see who else didn’t go to school that day, Maybe someone she met at school lives in the beach….or knows someone who does..Above allbe supportive ..forget your skin color or anybody else s because at the end of the day no one here gets out alive….no one here should be unable to show empathy for this kid…and shame on all of you for turning the focus from where it needs to be. Let the Police do their job and hug your kids tonight and tell them you love em.

Saw last night on the news that this has been ruled a homicide by the medical examiner, another words the girl was murdered. Sad end to a young life time for people to do the right thing and step up and say what happened

  • Anonymous

Ill bet that there are plenty of nasty lowlifes in that neighborhood who know what happened but won’t say a thing. Beer cans and fire? I don’t think a 14 year old black girl decided to camp out in gerritsen beach. Everyone is always so concerned about the reputation of the neighborhood that it all stays quiet. Even when grown men are praying on young teenage girls…. I mean this is all normal in gerritsen beach hell it might even be their second cousin! With the exception of some good people down there , the majority is a bunch of alcoholic, drug addict, perverted , delusional inbreds who stay generation after generation to fuxk their cousins and inherit their mothers house. Not to mention racist and antisemetic. White supremacist neighborhood filled with nobodies.

  • Anonymous

What a sick, delusional mind you have! You obviously haven’t been down here lately. Much less back weeds. Kids from ALL OVER THE CITY hang out back there, have parties and raves, campfires, drinking. Take a stroll back there any day of the week and you will see non local kids cutting school and hanging out back there. Think about it, they have clamped down on truancy in the schools so these kids who cut out can’t go to the mall or be seen on the street the way it was way back when. They can’t go hang out in most park because they will be stopped and questioned as to why they are not in school. Go back there and you will see kids and people of all races and creeds on dirt bikes, fishing and doing whatever they feel like. No one is bothered by any locals. You will see lots of remnants of campfires and parties. There is NO police presence in the biggest park in Brooklyn. You think that only GB residents go back there? It isn’t 1970 anymore. You think that the only way she got back there was with someone local, your dead wrong. I hope every day that they find out what happened, that whoever responsible is caught, that her family can have at least the peace of knowing there is justice. Losing a child, especially under circumstances like this is a nightmare. Your post is disgusting. I know of NO ONE in this neighborhood who wasn’t horrified by this crime, no one who didn’t feel deeply for her family. Your post was disgusting and you should be ashamed of your miserable, warped mind. And let’s remember this crime didn’t happen in Gerritsen Beach, it happened in Marine Park. Check a map. There needs to be a police, NYPD and Park Police back there.

    • Anonymous

My miserable warped mind???? Lmfao! Your miserable warped neighborhood! I lived in the neighborhood until I was 19! You don’t think I know what the fuxk goes on? Another beach rat defending the scum! And you even went a far to consider the point part of marine park! People get upset if a blak person dares to walk down the avenue…. Please tell me how many black residents live down there!? Ill make a bet that the way people responded was ” hey she shouldn’t have been down here to begin with ” ! Because I already heard two people I know say it. Most of the local black teens know to stay the hell out of there. There is no doubt in my mind some sicko killed her an he was from the beach. Just like Rambo was found hanging and the other kid found stabbed at the point. She probably got drunk got raped…. Was smothered and burnt to destro the evidence. All you have to do is watch law and order to figure that one out. Especially a buncha white kids raping a black girl? Oh man Al Sharpton would’ve been all over that one like white on rice. No pun intended. How many hate crimes have taken place in that neighborhood in the past few years ? But I’m the sick twisted miserable person. Gerritsen beach is a redneck inbred town located in the crotch of brooklyn. Small town- small minds. Very small minds. Btw if you read correctly instead of ranting I didn’t include everyone in my statement but you love your precious trailer park too much. People who are quick to defend usually find some truth in a statement being made. Now run along to the bantry would you.

If you know it’s the Gather Inn again you probably have been down here recently.

Do you hang out in the back weeds, I bet you do!

Now if you would just stay out of the neighborhood you hate so much it will be a much nicer place without you.

    • Anonymous

I only come they when I have to. I don’t hang out in the weeds like a nasty animal either. Considering I seldom come there , I can officially say its still a rat hole. Maybe a few new store fronts but that’s just time, stores come and go in that neighborhood. But the people never leave and then give birth to another generation of douche bags. Douche bag capital of the world. Gerritsen Beach. It’s a small southern town with brooklyn accents.

  • anonymous also

When this poor child was found not long after the hurricane, there were lots of people from all over the country in Gerritsen at the time, There is a possibility that one of those strangers is responsible and that is why no one has come forward with information, the person may have left and gone back to wherever they came from.
I find it so hard to believe that who ever did this had the nerve to do this at a time when there was law enforcement all over the neighborhood and parked along the Avenue.
I hope they find who did this to that poor girl so to give her family some peace, and to punish the animals who did this to her.

I don’t come to that neighborhood, I get wind of what goes on because I still have relatives who live there. I don’t come there unless I have to. Wow, what an enlightening discussion thread! Doing family research I find that my Dutch relatives founded Brooklyn in the 1600s. They even lived in the Schenck House which is now in the Brooklyn Museum. I was hoping to visit the local area next time I come to NY but I seriously doubt I will. So sad they are now a different kind of “broken lands”.
