Gerritsen Beach local Richard Folio was arrested for stealing a GPS on Melba Ct last year. The case is still being prosecuted. You can go to NYS eCourts WebCrims website to view it http://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/webcrim_attorney/AttorneyWelcome
I wonder if the guy in the video is Folio. Has this video been provided to the 61 or the DA’s office?

I think we would all feel at ease if we knew the final outcome for this creep. Was he caught? will he be caught? If we knew he was arrested we would take more measures to ensure the saftey of our neighborhood knowing he and others would get their just deserts. Then maybe crimes like this would stop all together.

There are several different kids involved in this. The police told my robbed kid that they had arrested one or two recently with a bag a GPS’s and other stuff. Check craigs list for your stuff. They got a guy in Brighton Beach because a woman recognized her GPS for sale. He had loads of them. Lock up your houses too. People from outside the neighborhood have been caught trying doors, especially basements. sigh, time for all of us to get cameras I guess.

Would be nice to see this creep get arrested. I think people would feel a little more at ease knowing something was done about it. Keep the camera’s rolling and bring the footage to the 61. sooner or later they won’t be able to ignore the situation. This would also give them probable cause to stop and search anyone walking around at that time of night. I’m going to set my alarm for 3:30am every morning and keep a watch on the block. If I see something i’ll set off my car alarm and give a shout to scare them off.

I would like to know if this kid gets caught, it would put me at ease to some extent. At least I would know the camera’s are working for us. I’m setting my arlam for 3:30am every morning to check on the block. If I see anyone trying to open car doors I will sound my car alarm and start shouting. Hopefully the neighbors will come out and we can nab him, or them.

when they are drug addicts, they don’t think sanely. If it seems quiet and easy, and they scored some money before, they will do it again. It is also clearly not just one, or one group, this is being seen in neighborhoods across Brooklyn. They (neighbors) almost caught one Sun night on Stuart and Fillmore. Unfortunate that he got away.

That’s such a sad excuse on the 61 pcts part. Breaking into someones car and stealing personal property IS a crime. Will they wait until he breaks into enough cars to accululate a $1000.00 before arresting him? Damn! when I was a kid, if I stole a stick of gum from the candy store the owner would grab me and call the police, and they would show up.

Doesn’t look like he is wearing gloves, too bad we can’t get some prints off the cars, he touched enough of them.
Next time he is caught on video we should see what can be done.
Maybee If we start getting the word out to the media we can get the police to start paying attention. They 61 would not like the publicity since so many cars have been broken into and they have done nothing to stop it.
Believe me if this was in other neighborhoods they would have cars on patrol through the blocks every night. I am beginning to feel discriminated against LOL
I think we really do need a security patrol of our own wish the property owners would call a meeting just on that matter and get one started if they want to do something good for the neighborhood. I will volunteer if they get it started.

61 cops take prints? 61 “investigate”? Hahaha.. What TV Shows do you think this is?
Crime does not happen in the 61. Video of crimes taking place do not exist, evidence of crime does not exist. Anything negative to a Compstat report does not exist. You are all safe go back to sleep and pay your taxes and fines or the police will ARREST YOU!
If you need a cop, go to the Russian Mob places where they “moonlight”.

I don’t understand why the police don’t bother with trying to get prints, connecting these crimes. There are multiple crimminals doing this in several neighborhoods. Probably alot of the same crimminals moving from neighborhood to neighborhood when things heat up a bit. You would think that by collecting prints and being able to charge someone with multiple counts when they do catch them would be helpful. Instead, when they do catch one, they are only charged with the particular robbery that day, get a slap on the wrist when they may actually may be responsible for many robberies. The police just don’t seem to take this seriously enough.

The video doesn’t prove anything. In fact for the 61, it may as well have never been recorded – they refuse to watch them. They might come by an hour or two later to take a report if you are lucky. Criminals know they are protected especially in the 61,
Seriously, you expect them to take fingerprints?? They have better things to do like writing tickets and framing innocent men – until they are caught on video.
A bit of Street Justice will do wonders. Don’t worry about the cops, they “don’t investigate anything under $1000″ as the above post states – $500 if they get to keep it.

These crimes are not only happening in Gerritsen beach but in Marine Park and Sheepshead bay also.
Maybe one of the TV News channels would be interested in how this problem is being ignoring. I am also curious about exactly how many times cars have been broken into in the last 6 months in these neighborhoods.
Remember the big fuss that was made when people in “other neighborhoods” were getting flat tires. What a big deal was made of that.

What I have learned in 2 short years at Gerritsen Beach is that 1- it is not as safe as it used to be and 2 – these lowlifes have no respect or fear. Police can’t do much. I barely got them to send a car every hour or so up and down the avenue until midnight.
Unless there is a neighborhood watch, these things will keep happening. They see that they can get away with pretty much anything and the only thing cops will tell you as I have been told: “If they catch them, yes, they will go to jail, but you won’t get your stuff back anyway”. That’s their answer to everything pretty much.

Yuri : I remember a time back in the 1970′s. When the immigration from the former Soviet Union was at its height..Back the they were mostly elderly and ill..When they settled in Brighton Beach. The clowns from Coney Island would ride, on the Boardwalk, on bicycles, and knock them down..Kick their canes out from under them..and just generally harass them..Then came some younger Russian immigrants..A few smashed bicycles and beatings later..The same clowns now get off their bikes and walk through the hundreds of Russians on the Boardwalk at 2 and 3am. No more problem Because a few people took care of buisness, the old way…A few beatings and word spread fast.. you won’t do this , not in my neighborhood…
Hot debate. What do you think?

@ anonymous..I do agree with you that a few beatings will most likely take care of the problem, but it will create another problem. The police will start responding only to arrest us for taking care of business our way. Do I really care about that? no! I’m willing to be arrested for protecting my property. All I can say is…if people are going to get together and teach these creeps a lession, lets do it right! After we catch them take them to the avenue and tie them to a tree or post for all to see and leave a sign on them that tells people that they are thieves and this will happen to you if we catch you. Believe me…thay WILL stop!

@anonymous: It’s funny, I was mentioning that about Brighton and how it was cleaned up. However, the main problem is that we are not living in the 70s, but in 2010′s. The problem is that as soon as you touch these scumbags, they will run to the police and scream assault. Few years ago, a thief climbed through someone’s window to rob them, but fell. The owners had something sharp on the floor, so it pierced his shoulder. The thief sued the owner (don’t remember on what grounds) and won!!! So, it’s a screwed up world we live in. But I totally agree, some beating is definitely in order.

I find it inconceeivable that the 61 is looking at this as an indivdual crime as each one is called in instead of looking at the bigger picture which is a crime spree costing the neighborhood thousands of dollars. As a few have said on here they will not do anything unless the crime involves at least $1000.00. Do we have to wait until they break into 5 or 6 cars before these creeps accumulate enough in stolen goods to be arrested? Or will each case be treated as a seperate crime and say they only stole $200.00 from each car and there’s nothing we can do. I don’t know about anyone else, but i would rather spend $200.00 or $300.00 dollars on food or clothes for my kids instead of having to replace stolen property just because the 61 doesn’t want to do their job. So whats next? if they break into my house and only steal $200.00 from each room, will each room be treated as a seperate crime and nothing can be done?

So if my car is broken into and they take under $1000.00, and the 61 does nothing to retrieve my property, can I claim it as a loss on my taxes at the end of the year? After all, if the police gave us the respect and protection we deserve, these crimes might not be taking place today.

So far consider your selves lucky… The house break-ins have not started YET…Drug addicts will stop at nothing to get goods, to sell for drugs.. And if they catch you unarmed, well I guess you are really screwed…You have to remember the Police do not carry guns to defend YOU…They are carried to defend there own life…As far as prints, you are watching to much T.V. The Police just tell you to call your insurance company and report the items stolen…My best advice is to get a 12ga pump shotgun for your house protection….Nothing stops a person faster than hearing you pump a round into the chamber..And if you feel your life is in danger USE THE DAMN GUN……

What is funny is the universal disdain and knowledge that the local Precinct is corrupt and refuses to do their job.
I read story after story and comment after comment about them in Sheepshead Bay, Manhattan Beach and Gerritsen Beach about how abusive, surly, corrupt and despicable that precinct is and NOTHING IS EVER done.
They sent a police helicopter to terrorize a dirt-bike rider in Marine Park a while back, spending thousands in aviation fuel to terrorize some kid, but refuse to investigate crimes and outright harass civilians.
They terrorize anyone who complains about them and even refuse to respond to 911 calls. These are not isolated incidents.
Am I the only one who views stories about the Commander being given “honorary” dinners in known Russian Mafia owned locations? Am I the only one that sees the condoning of corruption at the highest levels?
All of this happens and the priority is to terrorize motorists, frame innocent men, harass innocent people while our property is robbed, homes burglarized and businesses looted by criminals whom the precinct refuses to even pretend that they want to apprehend.
When does it stop? The patterns of abuse and general knowledge of that precinct being dirty goes back 30 years now. How many stories have been written about members being arrested, yet the story is quickly forgotten and never linked with numerous other stories that would demonstrate a longstanding tradition of abuse and wrongdoing. There are so many cases of brutality from that precinct too, but once the multimillion dollars settlements are made at the taxpayer’s expense – nothing else is ever done.
When will it end? It used to be a longstanding joke at how corrupt Krueger was and how Anthony Weiner was a pervert but nothing was ever done – that finally has changed. If the local politicians can face justice, why not that precinct????

Low life struck again on Landis Court last night, about 3AM. This time he was on a bicycle wearing a winter coat with a hoodie up. He also was almost caught this time and nearly had his brain bashed in with a 2×4 by a victim/eyewitness. These crimes involve both kids here and from elsewhere.(evidenced by the fact that no one recognizes the kid in the video) If the police caught him, great, I hope that they catch them all. I don’t like having to worry constantly about having everything I work for locked up. But outing him on here is uncool. I’m sure that his family is very hurt by the things he has done and there is no need to throw fuel on the fire and distress and embarrass them further. I hope that he straightens himself out. But everyone should remember that this happens in the best of families, it could be anyone’s kid, in any neighborhood, and what goes around – comes around.

Outing him is uncool? I’d out his ass to the moon if I could. Breaking into cars and stealing cars is UNCOOL! This ahole just didn’t start doing this, he started as a teen and has gotten bolder over ther years. As for his parents they should feel distress and be embarressed to the point that they should leave his ass in jail to teach him a lesson. If mommy and daddy keep taking him home, he’ll never learn and will always rely on them. Time for him to grow up and take his medicine.

Well if you know who these punks are deal with them in the manner they deserve. The Home Run Hitter has the right idea a little less talk and more action. Neighborhood Watch (previos post)
