It happened pretty fast but within the last two weeks the scaffolding went up and this week the building was knocked down.

Since there is a Walgreens down the block and a new CVS going up by KP, I bet a dollar on a Rite Aid.

We have enough banks, nail saloons, drug stores and liquor stores. How about a restaurant?
Maybe a Burger King? Wendys?
We could really use a nice Mexican restaurant.

Would love to see something different, like Chipotle, Shake Shack or a Starbucks drive through.

Starbucks coffee is not 5. A special drink is 5. It is only about 20 cents more then Dunkin. Check for yourself. Starbucks gives workers a fair wage, medical coverage and profit sharing. It also pays the growers a fair price. The 5 myth is nonsense. We should be going to a store that treats it’s employees fairly.

LOL, they should treat their employees fairly with the prices they charge! A great cup of coffee cost about twenty cents in my house. And I don’t have a tip jar on the counter…LOL. Starbucks is nothing more than a status for preppies and yippies. It’s coffee, we don’t need whipped cream, nutmeg and cinnamon in coffee to wake up!

There’s not enough parking for anything major to be put in….except for parking. Of course then, you wouldn’t really need the parking.

A Five Brother’s Pizza just opened on Coney Island Avenue. I doubt they’re ready to expand just yet.

Big box fast food chains seem like a bad idea since both Burger King and KFC both have closed. It would have to be something unique to southern Brooklyn to make people want to come here to get it….not something they can find on C.I. Ave or Flatbush.

If they really want to bring people here, they should opne up a Hooters. I’d go every night.

I think they are just making the parking lot bigger so I won’t get excited about a good restaurant just yet. Remember the restaurant that was there, could be another one like it.

If Keyfood is expanding the parking lot then maybe they plan on making the store bigger. They’ve done that before with the two stores that use to be next door. Keyfood could sure use an expansion.

Why would Key Food expand? After they remodeled the main store the standards have gone down, especially in the produce section. I have seen mushrooms turning black right after they put them out, dirty onions, soft and wrinkled peppers, some days they don’t even have lettuce, not to mention the most basic of things to buy.
Hot debate. What do you think?

Yes your right the produce is getting bad, I walked by one day while shopping and one of the workers put the broccoli in a bucket of water to rinse it before he put it out for sale and the water looked like mud . YUCK make sure you wash their produce really well

A medical center, Russian or otherwise would be a bad idea. Remember, the parking lot is not just for Key Food, there’s parking for the Sushi restaurant and there was parking for Chinar. If a medical center went up, patients would be parking in the Key Food area not to mention ambulettes and emergancy vehicles blocking the entrances. I’m not denying medical treatment for people that need it, but there are better locations for a medical center.

I for one am glad to see Chinar gone. It was nothing more than a front for the Russian mob.

I don’t know why people assume that Russian restaurants or any Russian businesses are fronts for something. Chinar was a good restaurant, that’s why they expended and moved to a bigger location to serve more customers. Just because the place is owned by Russians, doesn’t automatically turn it into a mob front.
Hot debate. What do you think?

Yuri, I didn’t say all Russian restaurants or any Russian businesses are fronts, I said Chinar was a front, it’s a well kmown fact! Why is that so hard for you to swallow? As for them expanding, if they were still at that location and opened a second restaurant at another location, that would be expansion. Closing one restaurant and opening another one in a different area is just relocating. I have noticed on your post that when other ethnic groups are put down you say nothing, but if a comment is made about a business that happens to be Russian, you can’t understand why people make such comments. Just happens that’s just the way it is in this case. There are plenty of businesses that are fronts for the Italians, Irish, Mexicans and so on. You need to accept the fact that Russians are no different!

It’s just gonna be more parking for Key Food according to the Key Food cashiers, nothing new at all, which makes no sense at all . The store is already overcrowded on weekends/holidays as it is.

First they remodeled the store, now they bought the property where Chinar was to add more parking. I wouldn’t be surprised if we either see an increase in their prices, or they gate the lot and charge for parking to make up for all the money they spent. I’ve already seen a decline in the quality of their merchandise since they remodeled.

Has anyone noticed how many businesses closed in the past year…not good. We need to support our local businesses it only makes sense, people do not want to invest in our neighborhood. Path mark, BurgerKing, two gas stations two dunkin donuts, ice scream ,more bars though, says too much about our neighborhood, kids are now more into drugs and no body goes to school anymore (just go to the park & fields between 10am & 2pm) there playing handball or basketball. As neighbors we need to be more pro active in our own neighborhood. Our own destroy the bus stop enclosures harass the bus drivers to ride free, corrosion of our neighborhood and society is happening. I too work too much to do my part but I do recognize it is happening.

Martin Golden needs to be told there will be a new synagogue in Gwerritsen beach as well as chabad afterschool programs in 277 and 194 they tried to fight against this in Marine Park but lost and now they are closuing in on gerritsen beach the members of the hasidic community brought 200 trees to plant in gerritsen bech along with the parks department a few weeks ago and are now using the Fields more than any gerritsen beach association….Martin golden passed a new bill in albany that allows Public schools to be used for religous worship afterschool and weekends …to be used by faith organizations ie. hasidic worship services… http://www.nysenate.gov/press-release/golden-legislation-allowing-use-schools-worship-services-passes-senate-education-commi please look into this

MrD, I do not agree with your comments. Supermarkets, fast food joints, gas stations and reataurants along with many other types of businesses are closing everyday all over the country. What does this say about our neighborhood? What does this say about our country would be more accurate. We’re not alone or unique in this situation. In todays economy any business, especially a business that deals in food has to pay attention and stay on their toes. Giving 100% is not enough anymore. Places like BK and McD’s have been under fire for many years now stating they’re the number one cause of obesity in kids. Parents are getting smarter and want healthier food for their kids. Also, may I ask what hanging out in the fields during school and destroying the bus stops has to do with a business closing? That’s another topic for discussion.
