Breaking: Fatal Motorcycle Accident on Gerritsen Avenue

Photos and Story by Ed Velinskie

There was a fatal hit and run scooter accident tonight at Gerritsen and Plumb 1st. The victim is said to be a local delivery driver at Lucky Star.

DSCN0116

A white Nissan SUV type plate FHV-9034 New York, traveling south on Gerritsen Ave. at a high rate of speed and blew through the red light at Gerritsen Ave. & Avenue V, struck a delivery man from Lucky Star on Knapp St with such force that it threw him out of his shoes and socks and left blood on the plate, the delivery man landed on the hood of the car and was taken half way down the block before falling off. The scooter landed one quarter down the block from the impact. The Vollies arrived at the scene and started CPR on the delivery man due to being in Cardiac Arrest, EMS arrived and they all worked on him for five minutes before taking him to the hospital. I then noticed the Lucky Star menus in the street by the scooter and went and informed the Lucky Star about there man and they went to talk to the NYPD about him.

They have in custody an 18 y/o female in Rockaway Queens.

The Vollies and FDNY were on scene preforming cpr and transportation.

Channel 4 News had story, it was a delivery man on a scooter not a pedestrian crossing the street. Looks like the scooter for the man from Lucky Star.

  • Aghast!

Why do you post such pictures? What of his family goes on your website? Do you really want them to see the plate with the blood? I understand you want to report the new.. But is the gruesome sensationalism neccessary?

My thoughts and prayers are with the poor family of his man. Hopefully he is not the only breadwinner and they will not have a difficult survival.

I love gerritsen but people drive way to fast!! And they nev er signal!! I feel sorry for the mans family and I am glad they got the driver

Doesn’t sound like an “accident” to me.

That’s so sad he was such a nice hard workin man what the hell are wrong with these young kids today.

  • NF

sad, not surprised, a lot of folks blow thru that light..

  • BBBBEACH

I think at least once a month I complain about people blowing through stop signs and lights in our area. Maybe people will start to slow their roll? Probably not. I would see this guy delivering food all the time, real shame. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Oh yea… SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sickening

I was recently driving up Gerritsen and had someone passed me on the left side going easily 60+, run the light on V (while still somehow in the left lane) then run the light at the knapp/gerritsen intersection, went down knapp the wrong way and pulled into on the run.

  • gbrat89

I legit want to cry and I’ve never had him deliver food to me. I would always see this guy out working. All the time. Very upsetting and deeply disturbing that the bimbo low life left the scene. I hope she gets tried for murder. Clearly she was driving so fast the guy didn’t have a chance. Justice really needs to be served here.

  • gbrat89

Just checked News 12 and it says: “Kathryn Foris is charged with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death.”

    That’s it? No vehicular manslaughter?

  • Pixie

It is sad that people driving think more of themselves than the safety of others. My Sincere condolences to the Family of this man.

Very sad, the folks at Lucky Star are nice hardworking people.

  • Mel

Sad to see cops on the avenue ticketing for speeding after a tragedy…they should be here more often to prevent them.

  • Anonymous

They should make traffic lights have a 1-2 foot wall come up from the asphalt when it turns red that rips the bottom of a car out when it runs the red.

  • Anonymous

So far this morning I have seen the police pull three cars over for speeding on the avenue. Its a shame a tragety had to happen in order for the police to do their job.

  • Unknown

Seriously, the title of this article should be “Fatal Hit & Run by Irresponsible Teen”. It’s absolutely disgusting to hear that a hardworking indivudal has his life taken away because of a rash decision from a wreckless driver. One big mistake takes this man’s life and then puts the pain and suffering in the hands of his family. Unbelievable. The worst part is that tragedies like this could easily be avoided. That is what makes it so distrubing. It’s sickening.

  • Anonymous

It is ashame what happened. My heart goes out to his family. But to call this young girl a bimbo and post her license plate number is unnecessary. It was a terrible accident but name calling is not going to change the outcome. If you new this girl you would know she wouldnt hurt a fly. This was not done intentionally. The girl is young and scared. Lets not all forget when we were young and some of the choices we made and that none of us are perfect. No one knows what they would have done being 18 and scared in this situation. Before posting comments and passing judgement remember all the mistakes you have made in your life. If you have never made a mistake feel free to post, if you have think twice! Also this could have easily been anyones son , daughter, niece, nephew cousin ect. You never know what the future holds and im sure you wouldnt want strangers passing judgement when they have nothing to do with the situation.

    • Pixie

If in Fact the story is correct with the Speed ,Running of the Red light, after hitting this man keeping going and worst of all taking off and leaving this man to die.I see no justification for such an inhuman act. Passing Judgement come on!!!, Making mistakes when we were young is one thing.Killing some one is entirely another. If you are old enough to drive a vehicle one should be aware what this vehicle could do if driven in a reckless and irresponsible manner. Speed Limits are posted for a reason as are traffic lights. Was it intentional she was going so fast ?

    • Jo

Oh, and the plate was posted because at the time this article came out SHE WAS GONE!! This was an attempt to try and locate the driver!

    • Anonymous

There is a difference between making a mistake and making a decision. This girl had a choice, either drive at the speed limit and stop at the light or speed down the avenue and go through the red light. She decided on the latter and it ended in this poor mans death. This girl should be scared, her poor judgement destroyed many lives last night including her own. Have I made mistakes in my life, sure, transposed numbers in my check book, picked up the wrong coal pencil when sketching, those are mistakes. Have I made poor decisions in life, yes, but none of them have caused harm to anyone but myself. I will not belittle this tragety by calling her names. Its not up to me to judge her, but to imply that she made a mistake in your post infuriates me.

      • Gerritsen beach neighbor sick of the fast drivers

Seriously!!!!!! Its people like you that make this world the crap that it is.. Its people like you that murders, child molesters, rapist have rights.. They had a choice to be a human being and do the right thing.. A girl walked with her head down had no clue I was coming and being a car drove right out in front of me that I did not have a chance to see her thank god I wasn’t even up to 20mph from slamming on my breaks that I stopped my car in time to tap her.. she was ok I was so upset but I did not leave I stopped my car helped her i called the cops because I am not a piece of shit regardless of the situation it was truly an accident & I was scared shit! of course she wants money This girl she is a poor excuse for a human being I do not care how scared you were or hold old you are.. if you have any heart you do the right thing.. as far as I can see she is no better then a cold blooded killer who shoots someone to kill & walks away with no care in the world… you can take your non Judgmental attitude and hope to god one day it is not you or your family because I would love to see how you would not judge that person…. the way I see it is if it was your family you would be thinking differently… go crawl up under a rock because we don’t need people like you.

Everyday I see these kids driving 40mph down the side avenues im like where the hell are you rushing to.. we need people in the neighborhood to ban together to do something.. the lights need cameras & we need to clean up this neighborhood

    • Srsly

    • Irish Kevin

Hit and Run ! This means you hit someone and Run Away. There is no excuse for this none at all! She should be behind bars until there is a pre trial. Disgusting Person.

  • Jo

Really? Being young and scared is certainly understandable…but hitting a man after speeding and running a red light?? Driving almost A BLOCK with this man on the hood of your vehicle??? RUNNING HIM OVER BECAUSE YOU ARE TRYING TO ESCAPE INSTEAD OF CALLING FOR HELP???? SPEEDING AWAY FROM THE SCENE???? GIVE ME A BREAK!!! SICKENING!!!

    • Thnks

      @Jo

THANK YOU. I’m reading people’s comments here and on Sheephead Bites defending the girl. Yea, I bet she is scared. What about this guys family? Do you think they’re scared? Upset? Devastated? This guy was brutally KILLED and you’re worried about her and someone calling her names? I got news for you, anyone reading this story today on any news site is gonna think the same thing: “that poor man.” NOT, “Oh that poor girl, she must be scared.” Tough! She didn’t make a mistake because she knew DAMN well what she was doing. The only “mistake” she did make was NOT stopping and helping him. The guy COULD still be alive today if she didn’t also DRAG HIM and just stopped. I have NO patience for you people defending her.

    • Anonymous

Jo, lets not forget driving all the way to Rockaway. In her state of mind ( and i’m being kind here ) she could have killed someone else. I’m sure her hands were trembling on the wheel and could have easily lost control of the car. As far as i’m concerned, anyone leaving the scene of a crime is a fugitive and should have the book thrown at them.

  • Anonymous

So Tragic! My heart goes out this his family.

  • J

I feel terrible for what happened and am sad for Ju’s family as well. I believe Ju will be at peace with his god. That may be the very same god that will Judge this young girl who made a terrible mistake. That she will have to deal with for the rest of her life. I really think you should let god do his work and and save the judgements. Anyone can judge when they are not involved. Its easy to run your mouths when this accident doesn’t concern you and your lives. I wish all of you judgmental gossip Queens a very blessed day and the next time you take a minute to judge others you should stop and take a look in the mirror and ask yourself if you are perfect. I am absolutely sure that you aren’t because god doesn’t make perfection..

    • Jo

I never claimed to be perfect. Human yes, and if I was to god forbid ever hurt another human being…I would STOP and get help. Mistakes are much different than murder. You’re a moron.

    • Irish Kevin

What are you talking about ? Are you trying to justify the actions of this person ? There is no Excuse for this at all . This was an act of total disregard of life Period. No Excuse get it No Excuse. I bet you would be singing a different tune if she Killed one of your family.

    • Anonymous

“Its easy to run your mouths when this accident doesn’t concern you and your lives”. How dare you! This tragety concerns all of us. It could have been anyone of us crossing the street by ourselves or with family. Or driving through the intersection because we had the green light on our side. This girl had no regard for the law and now Ju is dead because it her actions. As Jo said, “I’m human” and as a human I reserve the right air my feelings on this tragety. And since you think you’re holier than thou, aren’t you judging everyone on here by calling us judgmental gossip queens?

    • Gerritsen beach neighbor sick of the fast drivers

you only feel this way because it was not your or your family..

if it was I am sure your god willing ways will be thrown out the window.

I had to re post since this was removed from above. This is my opinion. I did not name call, curse nor was I rude to anyone as some other comments were. Just because my opinion is not as popular as everyone elses my freedom of speech should not be taken away. I said what I felt just like everyone else. It seems that the people who like to argue and judge get to keep their comments posted.

    • avail

Your post wasn’t removed, just Hidden due to many visitors on this site thumbing down your post. Which I can understand since you believe that one person taking another person’s life is a mistake that anyone can make. She operated a vehicle in a reckless manner and had no regard for this man’s life, yet you expect everyone to regard hers. The Courts will decide her fate, and people will judge. At the end of the day she took a man’s life and last I checked that was one of the big 10 No No’s.

    • Mr Murphy

Looks like you just don’t get it. She Killed a Person because she acted without Regard of Human Life.No more to it than that. They call this Vehicular Homicide for a reason.

  • Mel

She hit a human being who lost his life due to her stupidity. Hit and then ran to try and get away with it…now it becomes a crime. She had no sympathy for a dying human…why should we have sympathy for her? The only reason here she got caught is her license plate was left behind. She took away a life, a brother, a son, a father, a friend…..she affected everyone by her stupidity. This wasn’t an accident…an accident calls for you to stop, call an ambulance and comfort the poor man. She ran! And left him to die.

Dont any of you people think that if she could turn back time she would do things differently. My heart breaks for this mans family but writing all these comments are not helping. I dont understand for the life of me who gives anyone the right to judge. This was a terrible accident and someones life was taken but no one should be casting stones. Trashing people on a website, really ! Is that the highlight of some peoples lives now a days? This poor man is dead and an 18 year old has to live with that for the rest of her life. No one wins here.

    • Irish Kevin

All people are saying is that if this poor 18 year old would have acted in a responsible manner this man would be Alive Today. This was a total disregard of another Human beings life. From the Speeding to the Fleeing the scene. This became intentional when she did not stop and ran away. What do you not understand ? All the Trashing in the world would not do the Harm that this person did to this poor man and his family.

  • Anonymous

We may not have known him personally but this man has been at most of our houses to deliver food and was alway’s polite and thankful for our business. I don’t know if he just delivered food for Lucky Star or was part of the ownership. If he just delivered food, i’m sure most of his income depended on tips. A collection should be taken up to help the family in their time of need.

  • Mike

@ the folks who have an issue with the bashing of the driver, you really have no idea of the gravity of this situation. A lot of factors are involved here. Perhaps she was speeding to avoid getting stuck at the light, wrong yes but almost every driver out there has done it at least once. This however is were the excuses stop. Had she hit the person and pulled over we would all be on this site talking about how bad we feel for all parties involved. We would all understand that it was reckless on her part but something at least we could relate to and chalk it up to an accident, that however is not what happened. As Jo points out she hit him and drove down the block with him on the hood, now even if it took her a few seconds to register what she did and came to a stop again we could understand. What she actually did was have this poor man fall off the hood under the car and she drove over him. She then left and drove home. So I am a bit taken back how you can look at a situation that had a person hit, carried, driven over and then drive away as a mistake a young person made, I think it is simply ridiculous. Being young and scared is one thing, showing a complete disregard for another human being and running home to mom and dad is wrong on every level. Suppose this happened at 2 am and nobody was around, that poor man would have died on the cold pavement alone without even a chance to survive. It’s a shame, many lives were destroyed last night including the driver. But at the end of the day no matter the reason for blowing the red light, once she hit him she should have stopped.

    • Anonymous

Sorry Mike, but I can’t agree with everything you say. I have never sped up to avoid a red light. Are there timing issues when the light turns yellow, yes, sometimes you’re just too close to stop, but I alway’s slow down and stop when there is enough space to do so. As far as the gravity of the situation, I do not know it 100% but I have some insight to it. Some years ago I had a friend who was young, kind of a tough guy, never backed down when he was right and would alway’s speak his mind. That all changed when he hit a man with his car and killed him. It was a total accident because the man ran into the street in front of him and no time to stop. My friend was never the same after that. He stopped his tough guy persona and never drove again. Now! as for this young woman, I haven’t bashed her, but she did turn poor judgement into a criminal act when he fell off the hood and she ran him over and fled the scene. I have been on the avenue today and didn’t notice any skid marks as if she tried to stop but that was eary this morning and I didn’t hear about it until the afternoon.

    • Agreed

…one thing I’d like to add to your well written response is that perhaps there might have been slim chance he might have survived if he had only been hit. Getting hit is one thing, adding to the fact that he was tossed into the streed and rolled over is another. Just a thought. Its sad for all involved really. The life of a kind, hard working man was lost and this is something that will haunt this girl for the rest of her life.

  • Kelly D

All I have to add to all of this is may this poor Soul Rest in Peace considering the violent manner in which he died. Killed on the street by a person with no regard of a Human life. What has our society come to ?

  • sayithowitis

Mistake NO. Extremely poor judgment YES. It stopped being an accident the moment she ran & became a crime. Her actions caused someone their life. She destroyed a lot of lives with her actions including her own & yes this is something she is going to have to live with for the rest of her life but so is the family & friends of the man who was killed. Doesn’t make what she did ok. I can understand the being scared thing but that’s no excuse to not stop. & who is this clown anthony? Is he from the beach? He’s 19 & makes more $$ than all of us! Sounds like a dope dealer to me. See the problem here “anthony” is little punks like you & the rest of the kids these days. NO RESPECT FOR ANYTHING OR ANYONE!!! Since you have sooo much $$ why don’t to go to some classes & learn how to spell & look into some respect classes as well! Your a DISGRACE you little punk.

Personally I think we need those lights with the cameras at Ave V, Whitney and Bijou. I can’t even tell you how many people run the light, speeding at Bijou every weekday morning, despite young children on the corner waiting to cross to go to school. It’s sick and it’s a miracle someones kid hasn’t been run down. This very unfortunate event should be a wake up call to us. We should sign a petition to get these cameras installed, or have something done, to prevent this or anything as tragic from happening. We can’t just sit back and wait for someone else to be killed. A very nice and hard working man was killed who delivered to our community. He will be missed greatly.

    • Jenny

People always want these lights though and then when they get put up all they do is complain about them. I was at seba park today with my son and twice I saw people blow the light there when it was red cause people hit the button to cross. No one pays attention. I agree with you on the cameras cause maybe when people start getting ticket after ticket, they will realize hmmmmm just maybe I’ll take that what 40 seconds to a minute to wait at that red light to turn green again.

  • sayithowitis

Nobody is debating the fact of whether she was scared or not. I’m sure she was terrified as anyone would be in this situation but by far is that an excuse to run! How are you kids being raised that at the ages of 18 & 19 you’s don’t know the difference between right & wrong? This is how your parents taught you guys to deal with situations/problems?? If she would have stopped & called for help there would have been a good chance she wouldn’t do any jail time but being that she ran she blew that opportunity & is now more than likely going to do some kind of time for this. Your worried about your girl. That’s understandable but she put herself in this situation nobody else. The sad thing is it could have all been avoided had she just stopped & called for help but as we all know your 19 so you know it all & us adults don’t know shit. Responsibility is something that’s supposed to be taught while your young that way when your becoming an “adult” your prepared to handle situations properly. So now I ask you this. Do we blame you kids for this behavior or do we blame the parents? Because from the looks of things you kids are lacking a lot & sounds like there’s a lack of parenting skills here as well. You know what they say son… You wanna play, you gotta pay! Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time! Its sad that some man died trying to work to survive & sad that a family has to now deal with this & its equally sad that an 18yr old girl destroyed her life by making a really bad decision. I’m sure she never meant for this to happen. I’m sure she didn’t wake up & say “hey ya know what? I think I’ll speed down the ave tonight & kill someone I’m also sure this guy didn’t wake up & say to his family I’m going to work & I’m not ever coming home again because I’m gonna die. Good lord! You kids have A LOT to LEARN!!!

  • I am a victim of Gerritsen Ave I was it by a speeding teen.I am also a mom who had to race to the Ave and see if my child was still alive after he was the victim of a hit and run.Even after all this I feel if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all!!!!!!!!!

  • Jenny

Anthony when did she come back? I was on scene after this accident happened for a bit and she didn’t come back. Or was it after she got home all the way to rockaway and checked the damage this mans body did to her car did she realize her plate was missing and she came back to try and retrieve it? She not only hit this man but when finally was able to knock him off her car and ran him over again she hit another car. I hope your “girl” rotts in jail for a really long time. Yeah she has to live with this for the rest of her life, but his family has to live without their husband, father, son, brother. I think she made out pretty well considering she is alive.

It is a known fact, bad things do happen to good people. Good people do screw up. The illiterate boyfriend, ex-boyfriend or just play old schmuck really has to stop writing.

      Ticket? What’s a ticket????

    • Anonymous

Annon, I agree, no need to post parking fines here. But I will say I had two speeding tickets in the past 20 years. The last one 10 years ago, but not for trying to beat a red light. One on the belt, and one on rt. 80. After the 2nd. ticket 10 years ago, I decided it was cheaper to get home 5 or 10 minutes later than to pay higher insurance rates, even worse, hurt or kill someone. DRIVE SAFE…BE SAFE.

If you make the money you claim, which I am not arguing, you should help the Family pay fir the funeral, or make a donation to them for the income they will now lose.. I dont judge anyone on events that are not in my life, not to say I think it wasnt a terrible accident that turned into somethin criminal do to what seems like selfish reasons.. All Im sayin is, is with all this self proclaimed wealth you declare, do somethin right for a family that was so wronged by the woman you so adimantly protect..

PS.. Sorry if I mispelled anythin

      • Jerry Butler

Ryan I feel you are wasting your time replying to this self centered ignoramus. This guy is a Total Idiot as well as a punk hiding behind a Keyboard. He would not help anyone besides he is full of crap.

        • Ryan

I know.. but it was kinda buggin me.. Its just an all around sad situation.. RIP Ju.. God bless all life and all who know what its about and hold it in its own RESPECT.

      • Anonymous

Ju’s family would not take Anthony’s drug money.

  • Anonymous

Anthony is a godless person who is just thinking of himself. He makes more money than anyone, thats what he cares about. his god is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

    • Irish Kevin

Really now who cares if Anthony makes more money.I guess money cannot buy intelligence.(assuming that this money statement is not Total BS which it appears to be) This story is not about some Idiot named Anthony or his uneducated friends. It is about a Man that was run down by a Careless person in a hurry. This man lost his life, his Family lost a Father and Husband. What the heck does this have to do with this IDIOT Anthony and his BS about his earnings. If stupidity and ignorance were money this guy would be wealthy.

      • Anonymous

        @ Irish Kevin

You’re right Kevin. Anthony is just a disrespectful punk that writes post to get under peoples skin, and they fall into his trap by responding to him. He wouldn’t be so disrespectful if it were his father, mother, brother, or sister. He would be looking for sympathy and would get none. As for making more money than anyone else here, must be drug money. Who would give this kid a job?

This has nothing to Do with gb . Get a life ppl. Ps that scooter has no lights & cuts on & off the side walk

  • once had a a guy in front of me pull to the right without a blinker, kept going forward and as i alsmost passed him he pulled a u turn with no signal. I had to pull a quick u with him and almost hit phim and parked cars……….people need to signal in GB

    • Anonymous

      @ Deleted

I know just how you feel. Several years ago I was driving south on Gerritsen when a car puuled out of a parking spot to make a U turn just as I was approaching him. I slammed on my brakes and for the life of me, I don’t know how I didn’t plow into him since it was raining and the streets were slippery. I stopped about a foot short of hitting him, when all of a sudden the car behind me slammed into my truck. Thank God I still had my foot on the brake or I would have been pushed into his car. When all parties got out of their cars and the arguing started, the driver of the car making a U turn said he was a lawyer, and since I didn’t hit him, he didn’t have to stay. I told him since he is a lawyer, he would know that I could hold him there as a witness until the police showed up. He was pissed and tried to leave, but I stood in front of his car and wouldn’t let him move. When the police arrived, they took our info and gave the lawyer a ticket for making an illegal U turn and causing an accident.

This really is a tragic thing that happened to this man and Kathryn. Now before you bash me for having sympathy for her, allow me to explain. Obviously the loss of the life of a man is a tragedy. I would always see him around the neighborhood, practically everyday I was out. He was a hard working man just like everyone here says when speaking of him. As for Kathryn, this has ruined her life. I’m 18 as well and I can’t imagine holding the title of murderer for the rest of my life, especially when my life is just beginning. Whether she does time or not, her life is over. Her future is gone. You can’t get a job when you’ve been convicted of killing another person accidentally. Although many of you would argue it wasn’t since she fled, but that’s another topic. So in that sense I have sympathy for her because that one car drive, that one choice to go through that red light on a corner she’s probably driven down a million times, has cost her a future. A different light would be cast on this if she were to have stayed. It would’ve been a simple tragedy and not an investigation. The fact that there were no skid marks just makes it look worse for her. She did a terrible thing and nobody can deny that. Not even you Anthony. As for the actual incident itself, it was an accident. She never intended to hit him but her poor judgement led to that consequence. As for leaving the scene, that was no accident. She intended to leave, and leave rather quickly as witnesses have claimed. When someone is chasing you in their car you have the choice to stop or to continue on home. That’s where her intentional mistakes came into play. Whether you are scared or not, you do not drive home. And, considering she lives in Rockaway that means she had an abundance of time to reflect on what she did and return to the scene. She continued to make poor decision after another and that’s a shame. As for continuing to bash her, it’s not right. She’s done a horrible thing, but I’m sure having her hear her story everywhere has brought a sense of remorse to her. And I hope it’s not remorse for herself and her destroyed future, but for the man she killed and may he rest in peace.

Oh and and a side note to Anthony, I would take into consideration what you say and have some respect for you as a human being if you didn’t disgrace the English language as much as you have.

I HAVE LIVED IN GB ALL MY LIFE AND OVER THE PAST THIRTY YEARS IVE HAD TWO FAMILY MEMBERS HIT BY A CAR AND KILLED ON GERRITSEN AVE. ALL THESE POSTS AND COMMENTS COULD NEVER CHANGE THE HURT AND THE HATRED I HAVE IN MY HEART FOR THOSE RESPONSIBLE AND IT REALLY DOESNT MATTER IF IT WAS ACCIDENT OR NOT OR THAT MATTERS IT THAT THEY OR GONE. UNTILL YOU LIVED THROUGH SOMETHING LIKE THIS NONE OF YOU REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT U ARE TALKING ABOUT AND NOTHING YOU SAY OR DO COULD EVER CHANGE THE WAY YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS OF THIS PERSON FEEL. SO UNTIL YOUVE BEEN THERE MAYBE YOU SHOULD BE QUIET.

  • not-a-lifer

Wow….last comment Jan 6th, today is Jan 9th. I’m sure Ju’s family has no concept of what day it is as they bury him. Has anyone attempted a collection for this family? I think not! Your all too busy criticising and passing blame. Regardless of what happened, as a “community”, there should be unity & support for this family and business owners! It sickens me how this area of Brooklyn, with its parades, volunteer fire dept, private beach and fund raisers, are so calous and cold. I am not from “the beach” and “was” jealous that I wasn’t….until NOW. I have commented in the past…carefully. You people have NO idea what you have. How many neighborhoods in Brooklyn can say they have the community that exist here? Not many…Its so sad to watch an IMPLOSION, you folks are destroying yourselfs. Pray for this man & his family. Hold a fund raiser for them! Donate your time & energy to a good cause, not this bashing that gets you no where! Thats all I have to say….so sad this beach is.

Its not a comunity when most of the teenagers in this arerea are punks who drive likes idiots … even the adults who dont use their signal at all when they randomly pull over or the double parked cars because the person in the car cant pull in when there is a space a car away. Or the adults & teenagers who cross the aveune at night like nobody is coming & think they own the area… that is not a community its a bumch of people who think only of themselves.. I moved back from LI because I missed Bklyn I told people there is no area in brooklyn I would live in was the beach after 2 yrs back I am moving back to LI this community has turned into the punks growing up & being a poor excuse for adults whose kids are now not being raised properly the kids now are little punks

      • Irish Kevin

I have Noticed the same thing as of late.Every time I come back to the Beach it seems to be worse.I was starting to think it was me comparing the Beach to other Communities. But after talking to many former and current residents your post contains many truths. I hope for the sake of the many good people in the Beach this could be addressed and corrected.

      • not-a-lifer

D and Irish Kevin, I’m not on here much, but when I am, I have alot to say. Having only lived here 5 yrs, (used to dock a boat here 100yrs ago), I had NO idea about this area of brooklyn. Only knew that it was still one of the best areas of Brooklyn that I could afford. Couldn’t do Dyker, didn’t want to do Bensonhurst or Bayridge, and couldn’t afford to do the YUPPIE areas of the boro. My children are grown, and I live on a nice quiet block in the NEW section. It saddens me when you have soooo many people who do not realize the value of what they have in a neighborhood. I wished I raised my children in what I thought was a close-nit community. NOT ANY MORE !! I’m sooo grateful I did NOT raise them here. I just exist here…I LOVE MY home & the BLOCK I live on….but the rest??? You can have it!!! I’ve never been made to feel like such an OUTCAST in my life! Was asked the day I moved in …”Oh…your not from THE BEACH …are you?” THANK GOD……NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Chris

Its an accident, she should have stayed but even she had he’d still be gone, its a sad accident. When you drive a motorcycle or moped you take a risk with your life. Even if someone else messes up you still lose. Thats life, we all take calculated risks. How do we know she blew the light? Everyone has had their bad day of driving, sometimes your in the wrong place at the wrong time, it happens everyday. Its sad for both people but most of you are acting as if this is the crime of century. Its an ACCIDENT. If you don’t want to be in an area where theres a chance of car accidents move to Amish country and instead you’ll get run over by a horse.

    • Anonymous

Accidents don’t involve hitting, dragging, rolling over a person and fleeing the scene. That my friend is called hit and run and it is a crime. She made it a crime the min she didn’t stop. I would hate to see what you would classify as a crime, if she had stopped and took his wallet, would it then be a crime?

      • chris

No your right it is a crime to leave the scene which I said she should have stayed, but either way he’s still dead…she was not drunk or anything accidents happen all the time, he was on a dangerous vehicle, and that’s what happens, maybe we need to make mopeds illegal, maybe we need to make SUV illegal, fuck let’s get rid of cars in general. Because unless you do that we will always have accidents, and anytime its between a car and a motorcycle type vehicle the car wins. I think its dangerous to drive those things in NYC honestly. Its sad but an accident. (In car accidents people will get dragged, this is no different then any other car accident, its brutal but what happens). She should have stayed but I’m sure she made a bad decision under stress.

    • Jerry Butler

Hey Chris. What world or better yet civilization do you live in ? Bad Day of Driving ? Are you kidding or totally stupid ? Killing some one and running away is a Crime and is intentional as soon as the Person Leaves the Scene. The other statement it happens every day. Wow you are really out of touch with reality.

  • Chris

Have you been to Manhattan? Car accidents injure and kill a shit load of people every day, your the one out of touch with reality. It is a crime yes leaving the scene and one that needs to be taken seriously but you guys are acting because she left, she obviously was doing something wrong, as if she intentionally ran him over. Its just insane to me how quick to judge you all are. Its sad, and horrible for both of them but accidents will happen, this will not be the last person to die and no matter how many lights, how many laws, how many cops you put on the Ave they will continue to happen. Its scary but thats life. I just love how people use the word “ruthless” I don’t think any of you have seen how “ruthless” people can be, or real intentional murder, because this does not compare.

    • Kelly D

Chris. I do not know why you are defending this girls actions. Here is the definition of the word Ruthless which seems to upset you so much. (Having or showing no pity or compassion for others:) Now in my opinion this does apply in this case. Actually I understand how ruthless mankind can be,anyone who does not is more than likely living in a bubble like you are. Comparing this to a normal traffic Accident is really Idiotic. An earlier poster best described this as may I quote;(Accidents don’t involve hitting, dragging, rolling over a person and fleeing the scene. That my friend is called hit and run and it is a crime.) Again I don’t know your interest in this matter,I somehow suspect it is in the interest of this reckless and Yes Ruthless Person.

    • Old Geezer

I have not commented on this subject earlier due to the gravity of this matter. This was a horrible thing that happened to this man and his family. The sequence of events showed total disrespect for Life. This Girl not only showed very poor judgement but showed no regard for anothers life. Hitting a person with a vehicle is one thing which could be considered an accident,But dragging and running over a person as well and fleeing the scene without even seeing if she could have helped this poor soul is heartless. After that running home to Mom and Dad so they could make this tragedy go away or do something to save their daughter from the result of her actions is in my opinion criminal. This in my opinion drags humanity down several notches.

  • Chris

Btw I love how you guys are looking up parking tickets, holy shit how crazy are some of you. I’m sure that shows how ruthless she was, parking in a no standing zone waiting to mow down good hard working delivery men every where…

    • Irish Kevin

Chris you are either totally out of touch with the Human Race or just a Total Idiot either or, What is wrong with you defending this person who Killed another Human Being without any regard for a Human Life ? Can you no explain yourself without using profanity ? To write this off as an accident that happens all the time in the city is insane.I for one hope you don’t drive with an attitude like you have.

  • Chris

Just so ya know “Jerry” a little 12 year old girl was killed in the lower east side today by a car…he stayed at the scene so no charges are being brought against the driver. Is he a “ruthless killer” too?

    • Jerry Butler

He remained on scene. He did not hit her carry her for blocks than run her over and take off. What do you not Understand.??? I guess Stupid is as Stupid does Ha !

  • Another Anonymous

Man invented these two ton murdering vehicles – we have to live with the carnage -we’re all stupid, and even more stupid are the parents who allow what they demand us to believe are their “responsible teenagers” the right to drive these wretched vehicles…

  • anonymous

Just as an update “THE WAVE” the Rockaway local paper is reporting that Kathryn Foris was arrested and charged with.Second Degree Manslaughter, Leaving the Scene of an Accident,Criminally Negligent Homicide,Reckless Endangerment and Reckless Driving. She was released on 100,000.00 bond or 50,000.00 cash bail. She was arrested in the 100th Precent which covers her home area of Belle Harbor…

  • Richard Hertz

I feel absolutely heartbroken for the family of the delivery men. It has been my experience that too many drivers take advantage of Gerriitsen Avenue as if it was a drag strip, which is isn’t.
Obviously Kathryn Foris actions prove that speed does kill. As for Anthony Murphy, there’s a wonderful piece of software called Microsoft Word, it has a spell checker and as well as a grammar checker. Try it sometime. Even most cell phones have the ability to spell check

  • anonymous

Kathryn Foris was arrested at her home in Belle Harbor. And charged in Brooklyn with {1} 2ND degree manslaughter {2} leaving the scene of an accident {3} criminally negligent homicide {4}reckless endangerment and {5} reckless driving She is being represented by high-profile attorney Joe Mure who stated that it was just an accident.

    • Jerry Butler

I am sue Mr Mure will do his best to prove this to be an Accident. This ended being an Accident when she did not stop while the man was on the hood of her vehicle. This persons only interest at the time was leaving the scene. She had no regard for another Humans life. I hope the family of this victim retains a good law firm and files a civil suit against this person and her family.I am sure many Firms have contacted the Family by now given the press this has got.

  • bobby fallon

    THAT GIRL WAS 100% wrong………….

  • Mr Murphy

Anthony you really need to either learn how to spell or stop trying to be cool with your Texting like posts. What happened here was a horrible thing,It was a Hit and Run,in a civilized society there really is no place for the way this Girl acted, being 18 is no excuse for this type of ruthless and irresponsible behavior.
