This is disgutsting, the owners of this store are such nice, friendly people just trying to make a living and these out of control thieves break in and steal from him. Do you know that a bunch of kids tried to throw rocks through the window because they couldn’t do it at Halloween, white trash at it’s finest.

  • It’s a shame the beach has come to this. A lot of people from other neighborhoods have moved in over the past years, and they don’t have the history behind them; used to be everyone in the neighborhood knew each other – went to school together, intermarried. A kid would never think to go in and rob cousin so and so’s store or throw rocks through uncle what’s his names place of business. The Beach isn’t in their blood, so to say. I don’t know what the answer is; the cops are gonna have to solve this one; they don’t look at all familiar to me… Good Luck, D.P.

    • Beachwalker

Hey Dennis! Long time/no see. What you say is true but don’t fret this robbery. I really don’t think these thieves are from here, the outfit on the 2nd one in particular screams foreigner. No offense meant, Yuri. You are great people and a great addition to the neighborhood. I thank you for the contributions you make here. I am sorry for the Beach kids that are so ignorant to make fun of your accent, throw eggs etc. And I hope that you catch the kids that stole from you, but I do not think they are residents. If they are we will know soon enough, they are nice clear pics.

      • Mr.Murphy

The Kids are not from the Beach, how did you figure that one out.I think you need to read travel2692s post. When all is said and done and these hoodlums are proven to be from the Beach what will your next excuse be ? The Fact is that there is a real problem in Gerritsen Beach and people need to accept it and do something about the disrespect these thugs have for people and peoples property. Saying it was an outsider etc, etc. is getting old,Now People Enough is Enough.Any suggestions besides it was an outsider.Fighting with each other with words on this site does not STOP these acts it just makes excuses for them.

        • Beachwalker

Mr. Murphy, I figured it out, (not with absolute certainty) that they are outsiders by the way they are dressed. To you, they may look just like a couple of average kids, but I spend a good deal of time around large numbers of teens and these 2 are not typically dressed especially the second kid. It isn’t by any means an excuse. Many times in the past, the grafitti, for example was proven to be done by outsiders. The skate park has drawn in kids from all over who for the most part are here just to skate but they are also looking around while they are here and there are those that will take advantage of the logistics and seemingly lax security. If they do turn out to be from the Beach, I will be saddened by it. The point is that people rush to judge and blame and think they know the “truth” when they really don’t. Nobody knows yet so stop bashing the kids that live here until we all do. Funny, though isn’t it that after 2 days still no one has dropped a dime on them? Wouldn’t someone have recognized them by now?

          • Mr.Murphy

            Beachwalker,
I think the Bashing,Name Calling etc is all out of frustration. I have lived in the Beach for most of my life,I remember hanging out in the Gather Inn on the corner of Everett in the parks and back weeds as well as many Beach parties on Mow Mow (now White Island) At no point were we robbing people, throwing stones etc at Ladies with their young children, mugging older people. I grew up with the Sarubbi’s from Tamaqua(hope I spelled it right)Lived on Celeste,Dictum and Hazel ct. I guess the problems that are happening now is by a very small percentage of the kids. It is really sad that the others are implicated by association but thats what usually happens. Time will tell who these Kids were (young adults) Now if they happen to be from the Beach that does not make all the Kids in the Beach criminals. I don’t believe anyone is asserting that. After reading many of these posts carefully. I do feel that Yuri the owners of the laundry are be harassed because of their ethnic origin which really sucks and does not say much for the Kids upbringing and values.Anyway this is just my opinion.

        • freddie

i agree i usually wait on the corner while they close, one night these pricks threw a bottle while they was closing i ran towards them in the park with the guy closing the store with his son and 2 other people, for now i will be there before they close

      • Liquor Store - Yuri

No offense taken. Even if they are not from the neighborhood, they don’t strike me as smart enough kids to stay away. I am sure they will be back. Just want the neighborhood to know and keep an eye out. This is not the first time it has happened since I took over this store, that’s why I am trying my hardest to get some sort of police patrol over here. I don’t want to start installing bulletproof glass and buzzer on the door. What’s next? getting a gun? That’s not why I bought a store in a what seemed to be a quiet and friendly neighborhood.

        • Mr Murphy

Yuri, I am sorry for your troubles.Quite a few years ago a Chinese Take out on Nostrand Ave named Mei Mei was robbed so many times the original owner sold the place.I ran into the original owners a few years back in Manalipan NJ in an A&P shopping center where they reopened. They said they were sick and tired of the crime. Yes and they did install the Lexan and the buzzers it did not help the problem. I wish you well and hope you don’t give up and leave.

          • anonymous

Mei Mei was directly accross the street from the project, what do you expect , lucky they did’nt get shot at with all the shooting that goes on there!

  • travel2692

sorry folks this outsider defense doesnt play..these kids are fairly young and someone has to recognize them…print the pics and post them everywhere…..lets band together and help the storeowners on the avenue before there are none left…..Yuri bought this business because he thought it was a safe neighborhood…half the neighborhood drives to knapp st to save a few cents…some harass him…others rob him..what the hell is going on here????? kids are vandalizing our businesses..have stolen security cameras from outside stores…you live here…put a stop to this!

  • Irish Kevin

The Saga Continues. Looks like these kids need to continue the Beach Drinking Tradition,This time on Yuri’s Nickle LOL.

  • Liquor Store - Yuri

Thank you Danny for posting these and thank you everyone who responded.
I watched the cameras. These kids spend good 20-30 minutes outside the store, watching every move of the person behind the counter. This just serves to prove my point that WE NEED A POLICE PRESENCE. I know that people in the neighborhood don’t want to hear it, but all I am asking for is a car either going up and down the avenue or even parked somewhere, where they can come within 2 secods. This way the rock throwing will stopm, and no “outsiders” will try to ruin the businesses on the avenue.

It’s true, I bought this place because I thought it was a nice, safe, friendly neighborhood. For the most part — it really is. I have gotten to know alot of people here, alot of great people. It’s the stupid kids with no respect for anything that drive me insane. I have two small children, and I’d be damned if I let them ever grow up to disrespect other people’s property, age, or anything else for that matter.

I don’t see any other options but police presence on the avenue.

    Anybody has any other ideas?

    • anon2

Yuri there is no such thing as a police presence with a car parked outside a business that can respond in two seconds. That my friend is called a fantasy. The only way that can happen is if the business owners on the Avenue all chip in money to pay for a private security company to patrol the Ave. The NYPD does not have the resources to do it, not now, not ever. The theft is just the price of doing business in Brooklyn, worse yet, Gerritsen Beach.

  • Anonymous

If they’re from the beach, someone will know who they are and turn their thug butts in. If they’re not from the beach they most likely live within a few miles. Maybe posting their pics on poles around the area will get results. Looking at the 2 pics, these punks aren’t armed. If they were, they would have just walked in ad robbed the store. They waited for the person behind the counter to walk to the back so they could walk in and grab a bottle and run out. I hope they are caught, it would give Yuri some sense of security.

  • Liquor Store - Yuri

    Michelle:
They took a bottle from the back (not THAT expensive). It’s not the price of the bottle that I care about, it’s the principle that they feel it’s ok to walk in the store and just steal.

  • Mr. G.

Yuri, the pics are very clear. I just enlarged them and printed them. I will keep them with me and keep an eye out. Their clothes are what I will be looking for. If I see either one, I will let you know.

  • Anonymous

LOL, if i were one of these punk ass kids, I would be embarrased to tell my future cell mate i’m in for stealing a bottle of vodka.

  • Anonymous

We need to give Yuri and all other business on the avenue our full support. If business fails, neighborhoods fall. Business is the driving force behind any neighborhood. How many people wanted to open up a business on the avenue, but didn’t because of the vandalism and harrasment by the punks in the neighborhood (and their friends from other area’s). I know I did, but decided not to do it. Yuri is a brave man knowing very well that these punks read this. Don’t let him stand alone! Support him! Let him know you care! Help him!

    • Irish Kevin

Now I would not want to be accused of being Negative on the Neighborhood,But I do agree with you 100%.

      • Anonymous

Kevin, I know your posts are not the most popular on here, but let me ask you two questions.
1- Since you’re Irish and from the neighborhood, if you owned the Liquor store do you feel you would be harrased and vandalized, and have items stolen?
2- This may be a moot question depending on your anser to the first question. Would you be a target for these punks if you were Chinese, Russian or any other ethnic group?

        • Irish Kevin

          Answer Question one No.
Answer Question two Yes, I believe that many people (not all) do discriminate against other Races and Cultures.I have noticed this when I was a full time Beach resident.I still own property in the Beach and do still have a vested interest in the area. Some of my comments might be considered harsh and Vile (not to be confused with intellectual dishonesty ) I am just posting what I truly believe and have witnessed growing up in the Beach.I still have Family and friends in the Beach and visit quite often.

          • Anonymous

Your so full of crap. Tell me, how diversified is the Shangra-La that you moved to from the beach?

          • Irish Kevin

To tell you the truth the area is really nice,Clean, warm the people respect each other. Now as for you Jealous and Vindictive comments ,sounds like your turning Green and not from being Irish or Environmentally Friendly FYI No place is Shangra-La. The Problem here is all you anonymous posters.Who is Actually who ? Try getting some sleep it might lower you tension level.

          • Anonymous

Kevin, I gave you a like on your response because I like your honesty. Like I sad, you’re not the most popular on here, but that’s only because you call it the way you see it.

  • Anonymous

all this stuff thats going on in the beach is what we don’t know whats going with are kids

  • TCB

These images are very clear, someone has to know who they are. Obviously it’s only a matter of time.

  • "Marty" McFly

What I find interesting and hilarious is that Posters Like Irish Kevin,Kelly D, Michelle Marino backman seem to have hit a nerve here. When that occurs people hit the dislike next thing the post is hidden. Someone said (Don’t remember who) about burying ones head in the Sand. Removing these posts is effectively doing that.

    • "Marty" McFly

Just as I figured. Now here is a little test for all the Anons, If a skunk, an ant, a horse, and a crow had a race to see who could fly the fastest over the pond, who would win?

  • Anonymous

The Kid in the lower picture is the same one that was pictured in last Halloweens pictures of the kids throwing rocks.I tried to archive it but can not find the picture on this site. Check it out.

  • cv

  • Irish Kevin

Looks like McFly is passing me for the least liked and most disagreed with.LOL.

  • anonymous

Whooa I would think someone would recognize those bright blue sweat pants that jerk is wearing. You could propably spot them all the way down the Avenue

  • Anonymous

McFly, Pixie are not from here. If they were they would know that every body knows one another. They are hipsters from Park slope that get their jollys calling us white trash & stupid. Then they go pleasure themselves. no life-lo lifes

    • "Marty" McFly

So Anonymous at least I have the “Balls” to post a name. Not from here think again, Who would want to associate with most of you !

Second Request, I guess you and all your gutless buddies without a name like to hit the Dislike button. The Balls comment was mine, use a little originality. LOL !!!

        • Mr.Murphy

All you people are still fighting ,no wonder why matters never get solved.Thy a little cooperation and community spirit or am I asking too much ?

    • Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown,

I can vouch for McFly.! As far as Pixie goes,I remember a Pixie from many years ago.

    • "Marty" McFly

But you are White Trash !

  • TJ

this just shows what happens because we have a dirty liquor store in out midst

if we spent more time in church praying to jesus and less time in the liquor store praying to satan we would be a better community

  • Anonymous

Still no one recognizes them? MMMMmmmmmm, NOT FROM THE NEIGHBORHOOD, maybe?

  • Anonymous

I know who they are. I just gave them up to the police. There, you happy.

  • jimmyvan

i moved to the Beach in 1994 and just loved it.i decided to move here because, when surf fishing for a number of years and meeting so many great locals i wanted to be part of it. helped with some projects to “help thy neighbor” since than new homeowones just don’t share the same fellings of commuinity. SUCH A SHAME wish i’d grew up here

  • Mr. Strickland

Marty, get your Delorean ready! We need to go back and stop this crime.

    • "Marty" McFly"

Wait a minute, Doc. Are you telling me you built a time machine… Out of a DeLorean? What about all that talk about screwing up future events, the space-time continuum?

  • Liquor Store - Yuri

    TJ:
Your comment was totally uncalled for. “Dirty little liquor store” as you call it has been here since 1946. I am sorry if that bothers you, I really am, but the alternative is another empty store on the avenue woudl suit you better, right?
Let’s assume I get harrassed because it is a “dirty little liquor store”, then why does the laundromat get harrassed? Let me guess… “Dirty little laundromat”.
    And “Derek’s Deli”? Right…

BTW, a glass of wine every night is good for blood and your heart. Look it up — it has been proven.

You are welcome to come to the store and let me know face to face what you think about my business being here. I don’t ever back down from a challenge. I would love to know what you do for a living.
You know where to find me.

Thank you everyone for the support I got over the last week or so. Believe me, it is really appreciated.

    • Anonymous

Yuri, Why stir this idiot up? He does not represent this community. We, as a majority, have your back. You are a valued business in this neighborhood. Don’t let the ignorant get you down. Getting into a discussion w/people like TJ makes you both look bad.

    • GOD

yuri this is what i say drink wine your a good man

  • Anonymous

    Yuri, is a cool dude

    • Anonymous

Don’t know if it’s true but I heard Yuri purchased a home here. I hope it is true. If it is true this man has made a total investment in our community & his plight should be everyone’s plight. Either way no one has the right to terrorize a business on the ave & we should all be vigilant & keep an eye out for each other.

    • Irish Kevin

I was in the Liquor store when I was in the Beach a few weeks back,Yuri seems like an OK Guy.! I wish him luck.

  • Anonymous

police presence?… outsiders?… how about raising the children in gerritsen beach better? As far as I see the blame game is going no where.

  • "Marty" McFly"

The level of cooperation parents get from their children is usually equal to the level of connection children feel with their parents.

  • dammcat

I have read all the letters here on this subject…They cover almost every aspect of the problem…So how about during this season of celebration (including drinking),we show our support for this business by buying our merchandise there instead of wasting our time and gas by going out of neighborhood to save a buck….I know I’ll be shopping there for my holiday libations…Good Luck Yuri…

  • Liquor Store - Yuri

Everyone, thank you for your support once again.
Michelle, I agree 100%, when you buy in bulk for the holidays — it adds up. That being said, most things that I have in the store are not much more expensive then other stores, if not cheaper. And I am not the person who won’t give you a discount if you buy alot. I am a very reasonable man. Try me :-)

    • Irish Kevin

When you factor in the cost of Gas and the time it takes to drive out of the neighborhood the savings is not really that much.Yuri makes a good point and we should support him. When I am in the Beach for the Holidays I most certainly will buy at his store,As I did with all the local merchants when I lived in the Beach full time. “Happy Holidays”

  • George Broadhead

It is obvious from the more positive comments about Yuri and his liquor store, he is respected for who he is and the fact he is a hard-working family man. For assistance, he hires someone local. At the GBPOA meeting on 12/7, it was obvious that everyone present is behind him. (Including those who are church-going and may abstain from drinking alcohol).
The people in this community are not going to protect anyone who is breaking the law. The days of a ‘free-pass’ are over!

  • steve

this is for the people who don’t care about are community
your the type to never like this community so leave

  • Anonymous

    have they been caught yet?

  • these are neighborhood kids lol id like everyone to reread these comments… and then jump off a bridge.

  • Anonymous

Yep!, that’s a Raiders hat. Jacket looks like a windbreaker. Any ideas what kind it could be? I blew up the other pic, looks like it say’s NY on the jacket, but too fuzzy. Not too sure.

  • Mr.Murphy

A Raiders Hat is a sign of a real Punk or Home Boy.

  • Kelly D

I think free samples would go over big in the Beach,

  • Anonymous

Cheap stuff by the door? Will that make your shopping easier michelle!

  • Anonymous

Anything free goes over with these quality of people.

  • Anonymous

I would go along with the Punk or Home Boy.Better yet Wanna “B” Gang Bangers.

  • Pixie

It is the Sign of White Trash.

  • "Marty" McFly"

Michelle,What it comes down to is how much people want to support their local merchants.Without support they cannot remain in Business.

  • Frank

Why would my comment require moderating? The truth – whether or not politically correct – is still the truth!
