    Thanks for the info…Where is this being held?

  • Anonymous

    Bob would already be working for the community if the rest of the district didn’t vote for a wiener the last time. Hopefully we will get someone that understands simple economics and the need to spend less than you take in.

    • anon

      Gerritsen Beach should not vote for anti-union Turner.

    • anonymous

      Gerritsen Beach should not vote for pro-union Weprin.

      • anon

        Gerritsen Beach probably has more people in unions then any other community. Don’t weaken your union by voting for Turner.

        • anonymous

          Is being Pro Union the only thing that matters to you in an election? Aren’t there any other stances that matter to you?

          • anon

            Yes being pro union is the number one issue with me. Vote Republican and vote yourself less union rights, benefits, pay and possibly vote your job away. Look what the Republicans did in Wisconsin, Ohio and listen to that fat bastard in New Jersey. If the Republicans gain control of Congress and the Senate, they will almost certainly come after the unions. My hard earned paycheck and benefits is number one with me.

            @anonymous:
            You’re right. There should be many considerations when voting for someone that we pay to represent us in Washington.
            We are going through a transformation in this country and I don’t think most people under 40 realize it’s happening. You need to be in your 60s or maybe 50s to remember when Unions were something the working class sought after to belong. 30 years ago union jobs were in abundance in this country. Then came the Great consolidation of our corporations that led to the shutting down of over 25 million union jobs throughout the country. Those same so-called American companies sent those good paying middle income jobs overseas and paid a fraction to produce those same products. All this under the watchful eyes of the very same politicians we pay with our tax money to represent us,Democrats and Republicans.
            So what’s left for the average person who cannot afford to specialize in a particular field and pay a couple hundred thousand dollars for the education necessary to get that job???? Nothing!
            So, today we have a huge population requiring two incomes in the family just to maintain a standard of living that is less than one person was able to acquire 30 years ago.

            You asked what makes it so important to pick someone that supports unions?
            Last year alone 27 states sort legislation to limit a union ability to maintain the same benefits they negotiated in good faith to achieve. That’s 27 states. If you don’t call that an assault on the working class people in this country by the very people that we elected to represent and protect our rights, I don’t know what else to say.

            Actually I’m not happy with either candidate.
            They’re both multimillionaires and they are probably so out of touch with the working people
            à la Bloomberg, I don’t expect a real change from either one.
            With the way the Republicans have been betraying themselves lately as anti-union, anti-Medicare, anti-Social Security and also trying to restrict the public’s ability to sue, these are all anti-social, anti-working class agendas.
            Not to drag this letter on too long but just yesterday I read that a Delaware Republican Congressman (tea party member) said that he did not want to send government funds to states that are looking for FEMA help in regard to hurricane Irene’s disaster without cutting other programs of equal value.

            It’s so unfortunate that we have come to a place in this country that finds this elitist attitude acceptable.

      no one liked weiner….He won because Turner is worse. Go down the list of all Republicans that have held office in N.Y. State in recent times Bloomy,Pataki, Rudy, Bruno & Jersey’s Christie. What do they all have in common ? prick,prick,prick,prick,prick

      • anonymous

        Yet, everybody loved his cousin Oscar Meyer. Go figure.

        • backstabbers

          the only reason were having this special election is because the democrats threw Weiner under the bus. although what he was doing was kinda creepy & weird it was’nt illegal. Charlie Rangel is a theif & they stand by him. Clinton cheated on his wife with an intern in the Oval office and he’s the best thing since sliced bread.Don’t even get me started on that drunken murderer Ted Kennedy.I’m surprised he’s not up for sainthood !!!

      For the people interested in Animal/humane issues, Weprin is endorsed by the League of Humane Voters. I like my vote to count for something more than what is good for us, give a voice to those who can’t vote.

    In a nutshell -the above exchange is what’s wrong with the country. The extreme corporate and union mentalities/viewpoints are fleecing the average working person in one way or another. None want to ever give an inch.

    • dooziebotz

      Oh really? You mean to tell me that CWA is “fleecing the working person” by asking for status quo contract with Verizon?

  • Anonymous

    Turner won in this area last time. Unions are the only lobby group that take your money and gives it to politicians without any say from the worker. All other lobby groups / special interests have to ask you for your money ,they cannot forcibly take it. What is rich? Who are all these “rich” people the Democrats that represent the so called working man are referring to ? I know one thing all of the Dems that are constantly baiting people into class warfare are in fact rich. I like the wealthy and strive to have my little slice of the American dream one day which is why on a SALARY I work 10 – 12 hour days when needed, go to school at night for an advanced degree, keep current on the new trends in my industry and reap the fruits of my labor. Why anyone would want to be stifled and made to be just another cog is beyond me. The tax payers are paying too much already and businesses cannot compete which is why things are so bad. For all the talk on the left about sustainability someone has to think how in the hell can we sustain all this spending without revenue. Keep voting yourselves raises while >10% of Americans are unemployed while those that don’t want to work will keep voting themselves entitlements. Then everyone will complain when we are piss poor as a nation and all the jobs are overseas. Here’s an interesting question , how many of the working class on this site can afford to hire a union laborer at prevailing wage when they need to get something done?

    • it was your choice

      If you think we have it so much better go take a unionized job.be prepared for the fringe benefits like not being home with your family for years of nights , weekends & holidays till your there long enough to get apeice of a weekend off. We went for security , you went for the money & considered our jobs beneath you so don’t complain now. You sound like the complainer I heard in a blizzard whining that sanitation workers were getting overtime….like they had a choice.

    • trainman

      @Anonymous:
      “how many of the working class on this site can afford to hire a union laborer at prevailing wage when they need to get something done?”
      I worked my whole career as a union worker in the private sector and yes, I hired union workers and I was able to afford them because I was making union scale myself. I never needed nor wanted to seek out cheap labor because it cost you more money in the long run. When someone make a decent salary they tend to do a better job because they have more to lose than these fly-by-night so-called professionals. The reason your bad mouthing union workers is because the only ones left are municipal workers and those jobs are getting pretty scarce thanks to the political atmosphere lately. Like I said in my previous letter which you conveniently ignored, you could thank the politicians running this country for destroying union jobs in the US. Oh, one more bit of statistics the Republicans have been in the White House 20 out of the last 30 years.

      “The tax payers are paying too much already and businesses cannot compete which is why things are so bad”

      If that last statement was true then could you explain why in the eight years that President Clinton was in office the national debt was reduced to a surplus and the tax rate was higher than it is now and we enjoyed a much lower unemployment rate?

  • Just asking

    How come guys like that bald-headed worker bashing Jay Walder are allowed to walk away with 4 yrs’ remaining on a contract with the MTA to make more money but he does’nt think anybody else should get anything ?…. Turner wants to preserve social security by raising the age to till your dead……he is endorsed by former missing in action on the Zadroga Bill Mayor & Traitor Rudy……if elected to congress he proberbly wont even serve a full term because of redistriting. I wonder if he will still take his lifetime health benefits ?….something he doe’snt think other people should have.

  • old beach bum

    Tax and spend Obamanomics will quickly turn us into into a socialist mess like Greece. Entitlements, no limits to spending, everyone wants a do nothing job with all the benefits. Growing Gummint regulations are killing small business. The business of America is business, that’s what made this country great. Doing, not sitting back and getting.

    The unions are only in it for themselves. No electrician should be making $65 an hour, thats ridiculous. And only put in three switches a day. I work in nyc and see them in the building all the time. 2 guys hold a ladder one goes up pulls a little wire and then they take a break. Thats why everything is so expensive, we just had our building renovated last year and they are doing it again because the cubicles need to be 2 inches shorter to gain one more cubicle. They replaced all the lights and verything oh and to boot, yeah the electricians take the lights and everything else home with them to use on there houses. so dont talk pro union. Contractors are ripping off the building owners, overcharging and reaping all the benefits. Oh yeah how about the flagmen, well actually WOMEN that stand and hold the flag or sign at construction sites getting 70 bucks an hour. Give it a rest pro union people!!!!!!

    • Anonymous

      @Franklin: You have absolutly no idea whatsoever about what your talking about. And LOL, why would someone making a decent salary bother to take home your USED ugly office lights? And do you have a problem with women having jobs? I believe that flagPERSON is a bottom level position with DOT, while they are gaining on-the-job experience. But here’s an idea, next time don’t hire a contractor, do all the work yourself including the electric. See ya at the Emergency room!

    • trainman

      @Franklin:
      Come on Franklin… Would you be complaining about how much a flagman makes if you had that job?

      I don’t know what an electrician makes but I think $65 an hour is kind of high but what ever it is an electrician could also be injured fatally by the nature of that job and that possibility should be compensated with a higher pay scale.

      Oh, by the way, I don’t ever recall reading about a contractor applying for food stamps because of what his employees earn.

      One more small bit of information. In the 60s and early 70s a CEO made approximately 25 times what it’s employees made. Today those CEOs salarys are over 450 times what their employees make. How’s that for a trickle down economy. It’s more like a trickle up economy and the working class are being hammered big time.

      So the next time you look at an electrician and think about how much more they earn then you, don’t complain and try to bring him down to your level, think how you could get your salary up to his level.

  • Beachwalker

    Many (most?)union jobs are what as known as ‘life shortening jobs’. Painters,carpenters, electricains, etc.are exposed daily to asbestos, pcb’s, fumes, and all kinds of chemicals. And climbing ladders is dangerous. Working on highways is dangerous. What about police and firemen? Do you begrudge them the ability to be able to buy a house, send their kids to college? Be able to retire someday and not eat cat food? They risk their lives EVERY DAY they go to work while you sit in your cubicle and blame them for your problems. What about Sanitation? Do you know what kinds of horrible things they have to see, smell and clean up every day? How about the toll that lifting LITERALLY tons of garbage year after year takes on your body? I earn 18.00/hr. I work a union job where I am exposed to many of these things. Lead, asbestos,pcb’s. I spend the hottest months painting oil base paint in stairways and other areas with no ventilation. I haven’t had a raise in 4 years. Do you reliably get one every year? We have to fight and grovel for every nickel. We ARE the middle class, we are shrinking because people like you buy into this idea that the super rich are entitled to pay no taxes and that the unions are at fault for the gap. It’s all propaganda.

  • anon

    I will never vote Republican. They scream loudly about the deficit which the war in Iraq and Afghanistan is costing since the start $70 billion a month. There is our national debt right there, Bush’s deficit. We are all paying for Chaney and Rumsfeld’s desire to make big bucks from Haliburton and other companies they are associated with. I have had enough of them. I will (and do) vote in every election but not for them. They want the working man and woman poor and kept down in their place. No working your way up with these people. If we need money to pay for schools, health, medicaid etc. tax the rich guys. They ARE NOT making jobs for Americans, they are still sending their orders overseas and making huge profits.

  • Franklin

    @ trainman and anonymous, they take the “used” stuff home because it is FREE and the stuff is brand new, remember how i said the building was done a year ago, get better reading comprehension. Just like office workers take staples, copy paper, etc home, becuase it is there and its free as they believe. as for your comment about women working im all for it. hell my company, thats right MY company employs over 85 % female and 65 % are minorities so dont get on your soap box about me not liking women having jobs. My point with that was that the ridiculous amount of money they get because of the unions saying, oh we have to hire women, okay lets hire my wife your sister your aunt and give them a ridiculous salary.
    “what about sanitation, firemen policeman and corrections, do you think their salary is fair, as you say electricians should be compensated for a higher pay scale. As a community of mostly blue collar workers , if your actually from the beach then that comment is ignorant, if anyone should get more money its the sanitation, cops fireman and corrections. The only fatal injury of the electrician or other union trades is if they dont know what they are doing or are not paying attention. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!!!

    • trainman

      @Franklin:
      OK Franklin, I’d like to commend you on opening up your own business but that’s where the phrase is going to end.

      You mentioned “get better reading comprehension”. I reviewed my comments and I can’t find anything comparing an electrician’s salary with anyone else. I think any job that requires an apprenticeship or higher education should earn a decent standard of living.
      Not to belabor the issue but first you said that electricians were taking used merchandise home and then you said they were taking new stuff home. Did you mean “like” new stuff? You said you work in Manhattan I’m sure you must of notice dumpsters all around the city filled with perfectly good merchandise that was removed from renovating buildings. Isn’t it the contractors who are discarding these items? So really what is the problem with an electrician taking something home that would have been discarded anyway. I don’t know you but you seem to be coming across as someone who because you own a business is entitled to a standard of living that professional laborers are not entitled to. And it’s that mentality that is ripping this country apart.
      If you review one of my previous comments on this thread I mentioned the huge difference in salaries CEOs take today than they did 30 years ago. It’s those huge salaries which is causing companies to cut back on workers salaries and fringe benefits. The negotiations going on with Verizon employees is a perfect example of what I’m talking about.

      Are you going to be one of those employers?

  • Beachwalker

    It seems to me that your company is the one that you should be angry at for not reusing the existing fixtures when they renovated. Was this your decision to make? I guess it was if it is YOUR company. Are you angry because they took them home rather than throw them away? It wasn’t the unions that said they had to hire women, it was the Federal Gov’t. And that’s a good thing. And city workers, anyway have to fill out sworn statements about relatives in city jobs. So they aren’t able to just hire a sister, wife etc. They also can’t just arbitrarily be paid a ridiculous salary, that’s what a union payscale is. It’s fair to all. Unlike your company where if your having a thing with your secretary you can give her a big raise, right over the head of the billing clerk who turned you down, even though she works harder. All these years after the ERA women STILL make far less than their male counterparts. In a union job, they are paid fairly for the job that they do. And all workers have those jobs protected from the whims of supervisors. “The only fatal injury of the elec. or union trades is if they don’t know what they are doing or are not paying attention” ????? These are inherently dangerous jobs! I don’t get why my comment is ignorant? We have alot of NYPD, DSNY and FDNY here but we also (proudly) have ironworkers,plumbers, electricians, roofers, sandhogs, and just about every trade you need. And seriously, ‘Franklin’, where would you be without them? These are dangerous LIFE SHORTENING jobs. Even if your not killed on the job, they die earlier.

    Turner Supporters, KOCH, PAT BOONE, PATAKI & TRUMP. Please STOP calling my home every 10 minutes. Weperin has’nt called at all….he has my vote

    Weprin has my vote as well. His understanding and support of Union taxpayers, his support of anti cruelty animal and wildlife issues and he is against hydrofracking, which Turner supports. I am a registered Republican but I gotta cross the line this time. Lol, I can’t even respect Bob Turner as a businessman, he produced Sally Jesse Raphael and JERRY SPRINGER for crissake! He’s already done enough damage to our society. Weprin seems much more in tune with us and issues that concern us and our future.

  • anon

    Turner was one of the creators of the Jerry Springer show. This alone is why we should not vote for him. He created trash for America. What would he try to do in Government?
