Dan’s 5k Fun Run in Gerritsen Beach, has grown to be a must to-do event for runners (and walkers) in our area. It has also become a great event for runners in the brooklyn area to participate in.
This year the run will be in Memory of Jimmy Flynn and Harry McCandless and in support of all families affected by cancer.

Adult races trophies will be given out for best time, pee-wee races all children get medals.
There is a post race party at the Cort Club from 12pm-4pm there will be food, soda, rides, music and a horseshoe tournament.
There will also be a chinese auction and 50/50 raffles (grand prize $3,000) tickets are $20.00 a piece.

Dan Foster was diagnosed with rectal cancer a decade ago. His doctor, anticipating surgery, told him that dropping from 230 to 170 pounds would greatly assist his recovery. He lost the weight and, having experienced the fruits of exercise for the first time in his life, has since embarked on many long-distance fund-raising walks. In 1999, a recurrence of the cancer spread to his lungs, but he now has a clean bill of health. He organizes Dan’s 5K Fun Run for cancer charities from his home in Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn.
