Why have you not reported on the Robbery at the White Wave Laundry!! They are being harrassed and racially cursed at on regular basis. Now robbed! The community will have to come together and help them.

Looks like the end of Gerritsen Avenue and the back weeds are becoming very popular for swimming and fishing the cars were parked around the end and all the way down Gerritsen to Seba Avenue on both sides with people using the beach. I could not believe how crowded the avenue was maybe we will need a traffic light if word keeps on spreading!

Maybe we need DOT or the NYPD to come down and write summons to all the out of towners parking down the end. The B31 bus driver had to do a K turn yesterday because there wasn’t enough room to make the turn at the end

Last Sunday Night….They caught it on video! Stole $80 damaged the Window trashed the entire establishment. The owner is very saddened by the discrimination that she has endured and bullying from local youths. And now this robbery! Outrageous!

What the Hell is going on in Gerritsen Beach? Local business/stores being harassed and robbed. Come on, this is a better neighborhood then that. These people are here to make a living and raise a family, just like everyone else.I was always told don’t take what doesn’t belong to you. What give some the right to take somethiong from sombody else.

Looking at the picture I see the bravest our FDNY on the scene, just curious, where were the Vollies. The library is like smack dead in the middle of their so called responce area. Like I said, just curious

  • anom

they were there with the firetruck and all redirecting traffic away from the sidewalk

Why do people always get on the vollies. Don’t they relize they are volunteers and are here as a convenience?

I agree. I wonder if there is any other volunteer group that has to defend itself as much as they do to the very people they are here to serve. I actually don’t think there are many naysayers and maybe only 1 person who always jumps on here and tries to put them down any time they are mentioned. Sounds to me like a disgruntled NYFD member, who knows? I think the Vollies are great. I am proud that they are part of “us”. I went to a meeting once to try and join (as a dispatcher) but I realized that I may be too emotional for it and I was afraid that I would mess up at a critical time and it could be serious. So I try and send my donation every year, lol, although I am pretty late sometimes. lol, gonna check right now and make sure I don’t owe them one!

Let’s not forget, they are not 100% volunteers, persons belonging to a volunteer fire Department, (not a volunteer ambulance), can qualify to receive a pension thru the state. Hmmmmmm maybe thats why people don’t want the fire department disbanded.

Pension? The GBVFD members do not qualify for a pension. They do it cause they want to help Help their neighbors and make a difference. I applaud them.

You’re wrong, I’m sure all the volunteers in Long Island and upstate also want to make a difference but there is a pension system in this State for all volunteer fire fighters. All volunteer fire departments pay the State for things like their certification and towards this system The pay outs are not huge but they do exist and is based on years of service, hours logged, and you must reach the magic age..
