Reserved Parking In Gerritsen Beach

62 Canton Court - LOVES their cones!

Parking is Gerritsen Beach is not unique in anyway, we share the same issues just like the rest of the city. If anything, some could argue that we have better parking than most of the city.

It seems as though Canton Court needs to be highlighted for a crazy cone situation.

On Canton Court between Cryus and Seba Avenues, there are three spots or approximately 50 feet of reserved spaces by cones. This does not include driveways or the polite don’t block my fence signs which is common sense.

According to NYC Traffic Law, Section 4-08 (7), it is unlawful for anyone to reserve a parking space. The law goes on to list every which way you can reserve a space – we will spare you – but it does say cones.

So, when you’re trying to find a parking space and you spot a space with a cone maybe you should tell your neighbor that it’s illegal and could be issued an expensive summons.

You can call 311 or fill out the online complaint form if you were so inclined.

At least one person on that block walks with a limp and uses the reasoning that he's handicapped. Even he were 'handicapped', how far do you really have to walk for spot if it weren't reserved? On Canton – not far at all. Most here are just spoiled and don't know the hell the rest of New York has to go through to find a spot and then move their cars for street cleaning (handicapped or not). Out of courtesy for the physical issue I let it be, I also don't bust chops about it because I'm young enough and the little extra walk is zilch compared to what I experienced outside of GB. Still though, I think it shouldn't be done.

This needs to be addressed at the next property owners meeting. Who the hell do these people think they are. I live on Noel Avenue and one certain neighbor who doesnt know better puts a cone out everytime he leaves. When he returns he takes up two spaces! I have already called and put in a complaint to 311 and will keep doing so till 67 Noel realizes he is breaking the law and is fined. The idiot should have put in a driveway when he moved in. We will not put up with his crap much longer.

A driveway I had on eaton ct that was there way before I moved there in 62 didnt help. once in the drivway, depending how a neighbor parked, we couldn't get out. answer, just be neighborly and considerate. follow the golden rule and leave 311 out of it, people can't afford fines.

I have tried to quickly visit someone on the courts during the day and its frustarting when people block spots like this, I know Ill only be like 30 minutes and the person is likely at work all day. Im just lazy or I would get out and move the cones myself, usually I just park on the avenue and walk. It does cause the courts to be blocked, because UPS for an example has no where to pull over. Its just really rude and self centered.

The problem is fear of reprisal….such as getting your car keyed or air being let out of the tires…….believe me its happened….

I can't stand the no parking signs I see on poles in front of some houses in the neighborhood .. that the home owner made and put up themselves!.. they should get some type of fine for that!

Put up your own set of cones in front of theirs. Love to see their face when they get home

Someone is in possession of stolen property, those cones or barriers are city property, call DOT to come pick up their equipment

  • Whenever I see someone doing this on a block where I need to park if I don't see some notice or permit then I take the cones and toss them out of the way and park right there.

I try not to park in front of my neighbors house or where the people on the block usually park. My block is pretty good like that and we know when one of us has family and friends over or a party there may be no spots available on the block for a few hours but that's ok, we do have one or two who sometimes are not as considerate as most of us, but as a whole We are pretty good with each other which is nice . If I find the only spot open on the block is in front of a neighbors home I will drive down and park on the avenue where there are many spots that no one usually takes.

I saw a sign today on Florence Ave, Private Parking violators will be towed. A make shift gate for a drive way was put up, only promblem is there is a pool right at the gate so I doubt any cars are parking on the homeowners property

What about the junk heaps that are not running and taking up even more parking spots. If it doesn't run, put it in a yard or garage and let someone else park.

Another parking problem in the old section is people parking in front of neighbors gates. If there is an emergency and someone has to be carried out by fire or ambulance it makes it very difficult.

The irony of this is that these people on Canton Court are not even homeowners and are blocking tax paying homeowners from parking.Someone shoud notify the landlord of this property that besides living off the taxpayers who are supporting them already they are causing these kinds of problems on our block.TALK ABOUT SELF CENTERED!!!

If I lived on that block those cones would disappear 15 minutes after that jackass left for work…or to go get his monthly check.

I just read the comment about how renters are "living off the taxpayers who are supporting them already". Really? So because I pay rent instead of a mortgage (a rent, I might add, that is high enough to BE a mortgage), I'm living off the taxpayers? I pay no state or federal taxes out of my paycheck, and no sales tax when I buy food and clothing?
