The New Future of Seba Avenue Park – Hockey?

Seba

Red Boxes are Expansion Plans

Seba Avenue Skate Park is expanding again.Parks recently held a meeting at Councilman Lew Fidlers office with George Broadhead of the Property Owners and John Douglas of GBCares. They were invited to see the new plans and offer their input.

We will be getting a new general asphalt field on the right side of the park more toward Lois. The new asphalt MAY end up being used for roller hockey WITH nets. That’s a huge maybe right now. This won’t be started until Spring of 2012.

Here is where we are now.
Right now as we speak – a Parks contractor is building the comfort station. Then after that is completed Parks is going to expanded the Tot Lot with sprinklers. This is nothing new.

As for the existing Asphalt which is the middle ground for the Skate Park and Tot lot – that will be replaced with swings: 8 Child 8 Young 1 Handicap. Project completion date: Fall of 2012

The park overview shown above this subject is not exact. At the meeting, John Douglas, Pres. of GBCares, and I attended, the Councilman was emphatic about not intruding on the ball field. Therefore, the Tot Park addition is not as far up as it appears, but below the ball field, between the comfort station and extended from the current Tot Park.

The Councilman also discussed the addition of solid hockey nets for roller hockey, once the same asphalt space has been relocated to the other side of the skateboard park.

That difference in location allows for the addition of swings, grading up from more bucket swings for infants and toddlers to swings for the use of older children.

where's the pot smoking area? the piss wall? the broken glass sandbox? the bbq pits for the bush people? is this politically correct?

    • Frank

We should also put in a Cricket station caus that is very common down here

    • Frank

How about softball field, tennis courts, vollyball nets, track, handball courts, and some lights to go with it including a fence and maybe some parks department people and Oh heres a new one Police who don't just give out summonses to the residents for parking the wrong way!!!!!!!

I'm a little confused, we need a hockey rink why ? I can't remember I saw any kids from down here skating around or looking for a place to place hockey.

    • neighborhood lady

We Need a hockey rink why??? A nice change from basketball hoops.

I see more kids from GB playing basketball then hockey. Like I said I can't remember the last time I saw kids playing hockey in GB but I see them everyday with a basketball. A nice set of b ball courts would be very nice

Look at Marine Park. Are you sure you want Basketball hoops?

          • If you build it they

You dont see kids playing Hockey because they dont have a place to play. Give them a Hockey Rink or a flat surface for skatingand it wil be great and will also be another excellent hang out for the older kids to party.

Yeah look at Marine Park, a few nice courts, some good summer leagues. I'm willing to bet they have no promblems on those courts, no robberies etc. I guess you have have a promblem with some of the people who use them. Okay bring in a hockey rink, why not make it an ice rink this way the russians can take over the whole east side of the avenue

You'd lose that bet, read the bay news police blotter & wake up.

We need tennis courts or a rink – hoops will attract trouble.

  • gbchickie

im very excited for the sprinklers and the extra swings!!!!….not so sure about hockey though…maybe some basketball hoops would be more usefull…but i am not happy about the comfort station at all-i just see it being trashed

eh thats my 2 cents…but this is all good stuff for the neighborhood

  • sorry for you all

Like George stated at the meeting. We have very little control over what goes on over there…. Councilman Fidler can promise us anything. The only problem is Counclilmen come and go Either voted out, or move on up the Political ladder. So what ever he agrees to, is not written in stone and can change…. With all of this developement. Why is'nt anyone asking about increased traffic on Gerrittsen Ave and parking lots for all of the expected park patrons. Maybe we should call for an enviormental impact study to be commissioned ?. This also should be part of the plan of the future… I, like many others ,would agree with one attendees statement that he liked it better when we did what we wanted down here… Those days are long gone my friend.. All we can do now is cut the best deals with the Politicans we can…Also for a City that is pleading poverty to its unions and citizens, cutting bus lines and services.. How can a Fathead Mayor afford all of these socalled improvements ?

I'm not sure, but I think the Feds are paying for the parks. In any case, after the work is completed you'll see property taxes go up – the area has been "improved". The influx of people coming in on a daily basis will be like nothing you've ever seen, and yes, the parking situation will be interesting. Here's guessing that the city doesn't address the need for extra parking and tags everyone like crazy.

      • sorry for you all

Maybe the Fed's are paying which really means YOU are paying….I still think we should push for a neighborhood enviormental impact study to be done… Look what happened to the neighborhood when they did Mau-Mau for a bird sanctuary.. Now we are overun with Racoons and no legal way to get rid of them… Also if it is Federal money why did'nt it go to maintaining essential services ? And not to a fantasy park that some Politician can claim he/she did a good deed…

        • Glenn B.

You guys are worried about federal money being spent for a tiny little park in Brooklyn? Have you any idea what the Federal Gov't. under Obama and this democratic House and Senate have spent over the last 20 months on bailouts, social programs, stimulus' and an unconstitutional mandated health care plan that Karl Marx would have envied? The Congressional Budget Office shows that over the first three years of the Obama's presidency, 2009-2011, the federal government will borrow an estimated $3.7 trillion. That is more than the entire accumulated national debt for the first 225 years of U.S. history!! Our kids and grandkids and great grandkids will be paying off this debt! Vote all the democrats/socialists in congress out in November!

Wasn't there an enclosed asphalt hockey rink behind 277 many years ago?

  • Proud American

Why are we thinking so small down here ? There is enough land over there to build a Major League Baseball, Football stadium to rival anything in the Meadow Lands….Or a World Class tennis court, to rival Forest Hills…Or a major Horse Racing Track to rival Aqueduct or Belmont…Or a great Indoor Gun Range..Or a Lake like Prospect Park with wild ducks.. What about a Horse Riding Stable….How about a World Class Zoo…Or an Aquarium by the sea….Actually there is most likely enough land to build it all… A Disneyland in New York would be another option…

Under the Epic Time Line – why was it not mentioned about how many kids have enjoyed many hours of fun since it has been opened. There are kids skating there all year round so it can't be all that bad.

  • anonymous

It's to bad we can't claim we are actually all Nayack ,Canarsee or Rockaway Indian tribe members..Then we could sue, like the Shinnecock Indians did. And get our land back to develope it ourselves….A nice Casino like Foxwoods, no Federal Tax, no State Tax… Any of you out there contact GB.net…

might as well put a mosque there at this point the way hard working american families are disrespected while we're forced to have "tolerance" towards people who don't belong here trying to kill us all,i guess you gotta side with the jews if you had to pick a side i'd much rather be bankrupt than beheaded

    • Disgusted

This post is so disgusting that the fact that it has not been edited reflects on the proprietor of this web site.

      • anonymous1

Maybe you feel the last post was disgusting BUT the part about the hard working American Families being disrespected and forced to have tolerance to people who want to destroy us and our COUNTRY IS RIGHT, I am tired of being a foreigner in my own country..we have no rights any longer… the illegals that enter our county now have more rights than I do.. what ever happened to our laws and the constitution?
