    Extremely disorganized, worst fields except for one that only if you play for the special team that is coached by the same people that attempt to run the league you will get the chance to play on. They have taken a parish organization and transformed it into a privte business, no money is invested but much money is taken in! They organize a summer baseball league that no one knows about exce

If you want to get A+ swimming lessons go to Good Shepherd, everything else is sub par especially their baseball and softball program.

  WHO CARES? IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GO TO PARTICIPATE IN GS SPORTS THEN DON'T. Does Resurrection offer the same sports? When did this become competition? I am a GS parishioner who works in GB and MANY people from GB attend GS for mass and religious education. You can register in any parish regardless of where you live.

  I think it is very nice that GS is welcoming to out of parish children. They do offer sports that Ressurection doesn't have. Yes there was a coach that was arrested for rape, he DID NOT molest a child from GS sports program (not that it matters). It was handled very appropriately- EVERY family with a child in any sport got a letter regarding this issue AND it was in the parish bulletin. Unfortunately sexual predators are everywhere and when people volunteer there is no "background check".
  I think it is sad that people have left negative comments to this advertisement. There is no competition here, the ultimate goal is forthe kids to have fun. Years ago parents had more time for volunteering, but in today's society most families have 2 parents working. So I applaud and am grateful for ALL of the people (not just GS) who volunteer to coach and help out!!!!!!
  It is much easier to just be nice………

        I'm curious how the GB leagues ensure that none of these predators coach for them. It seems that you feel it could have possibly been prevented. Maybe you can share that insight with us.

    Marinepark, I'm not looking to get into the long debate about GS but you should know if you didn't already, that backround checks are mandated by the Bishop of Brooklyn for anyone who deals in anyway with children, as well as a mandated trainning class. Now it is possible that this person gave mis information as to who they were or that the crime happened after the checks were done but either way background checks are done and if you ask me it should be done more often.

    Marinepark, GS does NOT offer any different fall & winter sports then Resurrection to the children of the parish. All are the same, and I GS is the more expensive of all the parishes in the area

      Sorry, my error….I thought Resurrection did not have a swim team. Not here to argue, I just do not see why people are angry that GS advertised on this site. If you do not like GS don't go there. It just doesn't seem like that big of a deal especially since we have great kids from GB that choose to swim for GS and why not let them know when registration is.

While your post is down right offensive, these other post were just expressing their opinion and sharing their experiences with the GS sports league. Are you perhaps the GS coach that was arrested for rape? Or are you one of the administrators who run the league as it was a private club instead of a parish league and use the publics money for personal use? Let us know before you offend an entire neighborhood!

This is all so unnecessary, bashing each other!!!! It isn't a battle of neighborhoods, this all started over GS advertising sports registration- take it or leave it. Accusations that it is a private club or business is so inaccurate and no one is pocketing money. It costs money to get permits, rent pools and basketball courts, and to buy uniforms. If you don't like GS sports- do not go there but don't make false accusations. White trash, drugs, graffiti, speeding- it is EVERYWHERE! And yes we are the ones who had a rapist coaching a team and appropriate measures were taken. It is sad and unfortunate but the truth is it is no reflection of GS, just the society we live in today.

  i am from gb and i agree with marine park think of the kids who want to play ball and not about the white trash from gs or gb but i would like to see moore coaches teaching the kids how to play ball and more sportsmanship dont worry if you win or loose at this age all the kids should just be having fun and learning the game the right way

This is a very childish debate but it is also kind of funny. I was not going to post anything but at the same time I wanted people to know my experience with the GS sports program. Just like society and this forum, it is a mix of good people and bad. The positive programs are nmo doubt swimming, bowling, basketball and softball. The negative program is baseball, I do have to agree that the baseball program is run by two people that have no business being there. It seems to me as well as other parents I spoke to that they use the GS name, fields and equipment as their were their own. As someone mentioned before, the scheduling of the games for their own team is done exclusively on the good fields while everyone else's are mostly on the bad fields in marine park. And yes they do run a summer baseball team but its not extended to everyone but its only there for a few select players including their very own and while no one is a pro those kids can't even play. This past season they made it a little bit more public and many parents including myself were very enthusiastic, not even a week after they announced this we found out that they had already chosen their team and nothing for the rest of us, no tryouts nothing! It becomes actually worse if your child plays for their team as all the awards go to a select few again.

These are all facts that can be proven, and that's why many people are leaving the program. It's always great when you find people that offer Their time for community programs but if the same people are their just to run it as their own program then not sure their the right people in the first place.

      Incorrect on the basketball fees. The travel teams play in-house also (it's included in the fee). In-House is for the kids who either don't want to play travel (as it does require a certain level of play) and/or can't make the commitment (practices, games, etc…). Get it right before you bash.
      
      Oh and I don't even see Resurrection having a website where all their sports and fees are posted. If you don't want to play GS Sports DON'T.

      Oh great Unhappy. So apparently your child bowls w/GS cause you say, "WE pay for each game." Have you every heard of a registration fee? The bowling PAR gives 110% every week to the kids that bowls. She makes sure that even the snottiest kid gets some sort of award. You should be ashamed of yourself. Do us all a favor and QUIT.

      Really? $30 is a rip off???? Did your child ever bowl? If so I find it very hard to believe. Have you ever seen what those children are given every week, nevermind at the Halloween party that is held for them? Every child that bowls gets at least one trophy as well. Do you think the volunteer should pay for all of that? I know for a fact she does contribute from her own pocket as it is. Please people get over it!!!! You are all a bunch of miserable people!!!!! My child played for G.S. for years and ALWAYS played in the grass at the park. We were never ALLOWED to play in the special field on ave. U. That is reserved for the elite squads. I wonder if those kids have parents on the sports comity? Hmmmmm. Come to think of it..they do. And we pay the same amount of money that they do. That is why we are done.

    The so called "perk" should be that they are helping children grow and become better young adults and adults. Whatever happen to that warm feeling one gets when they HELP someone out of the goodness of their heart and not their wallet
    
    And the reason why the kids play on the grass in Marine park and not the fields is because they do not have a permit for Marine Park, GS has their permit for Crawford Park on Ave U, which is where ALL the games are suppose to be played

  Parent- what age group was it that played in the grass? My children do not play baseball for GS but do play in Marine Park and the younger kids play on the grass. It is hard to get the fields (I only know bc my spouse coaches for another league).
  
  Parent 2- although I do not know that what u said is a fact, my daughter swims and I have to be honest that if the coaches kids do swim for free it would not bother me one bit; we coach baseball, lead boy scouts and girl scouts and we do pay but I have to say it is a lot of time and a big commitment with often little thanks. Most people are good at complaining but offer far too few thank yous!!!!

Crooks! Parish sports? It's more like a private club for thier own kids, which can't play at all like the other person said and yes they do get all the awards! Do the priests know?????

Coaches children do have to pay fees. We give all our free time to the kids (and for good reason) but do not get a discount. Now if you are on the sports comity? There are perks…trust me. And it is not fair. The funny thing is that it is so clear that now everyone can see. And we are not happy. I repeat…we NEVER played in "the special" field.

Ever go to the awards night? Greatest all around player? The coaches kid! Greatest team player? The coaches kid! Not every coach does this. There are many coaches in it for the right reasons. But everyone sees exactly what is going on and who is doing it. The bad apples are spoiling it for everyone else. That is the reason so many coaches do not come back.

  Let me guess who those coaches are? Maybe the only two baseball people who have the keys to the field on Ave U? The two "wanna be coaches" who think thier kids can actually play? The same ones who get all the best and new equipment? The ones who think the league is actually thiers?

I JUST HEARD ABOUT THIS BLOG, AS I AM READING THROUGH THE BLOG I AM GETTING SICK TO MY STOMACH.

THE GOOD SHEPHERD COMMUNITY AND THE GERRITSEN BEACH COMMUNITY ARE ROMAN CATHOLIC.

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU PEOPLE DOING? DONT YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR FREE TIME?

BASHING A SPORTS COMMITTEE, COACHS, VOLUNTEERS, AND CHILDREN?

ARE YOU SERIOUS?

AS A COACH, VOLUNTEER AT GOOD SHEPHERD I AM PROUD TO HELP OUT WHEN I CAN.

THE PROBLEM IS PEOPLE TALK BUT NEVER STEP UP TO THE PLATE.

I CAN SEE THERE ARE A FEW TROUBLE MAKERS ON BOTH SIDES HERE.

PEOPLE ARE MOVING OUT OF OUR NEIGHBORHOODS, NOT STICKING TOGETHER. CHURCHS AND CATHOLIC SCHOOLS ARE CLOSING!

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, VOLUNTEER, SUPPORT AND GET INVOLVED IN OUR DIOCESE.

INSTEAD OF RUNNING OR HIDING TEACH OUR CHILDREN RIGHT NOT WRONG AND HATERED.
