Over the weekend was the Annual Allen Avenue Block party and it was a great success. Except for the residents of Fane Court.
According to Fane Court, They were not notified of this years block party in advance and found themselves blocked in by early morning.
In years past Fane Court, which does not participate in the Allen Avenue Block Party, was able to have access to Plumb 1st when they needed it.
This year when someone crossed over Allen Avenue onto Fane Court. People from Allen Avenue were upset at the driver and approached the driver. The altercation and yelling brought out everyone on Fane Court and a group argument ensued.
Allen Avenue’s argument was you can’t cross our block party we have a permit.
Fane Court’s argument was you blocked us in what else are we supposed to do.
The police did arrive to try and sort things out, but they only quoted the permit which authorized Allen Avenue being closed off as a block party. As of press time it is unknown whether all or parts of Allen Avenue were closed off.
In the end, Fane Court continued to drive to and from Plumb 1st when they needed it . While residents of Allen Avenue tried to block them with garbage cans and barricades.
Hopefully next year this can be resolved ahead of time and people can be nicer to their neighbors who are not participating in the festivities.

fane court would have been fine if two adult females didnt come down the block like animals and would have told us the night before to move our vehicles we all would have agreed , we all have children and friends on allen avenue and were treated disrespectfully. so please stop this baby bullcrap and if you have a block party next year discuss it prior like adults.

I liked the very classy people who pissed on plumb 2nd street. Thank you to the NYPD for atleast catching one of them and giving them a summons. Otherwise it was a good party

every year we have this party and every year,people do not move their cars or expect to be able to drive through regardless of the kids and residents trying to enjoy the day.
at least two cars came through and drove right down the street,zigzagging past residents sitting outside and the slide that kids were using. from knapp all the way to gerritsen ave.
give me a break.
and trying being closer to knapp st on allen ave. you can't let your guard down for a minute because of the worry of cars coming through,residents and non residents driving right through.so mean spirited.not to mention dangerous.
In addition, it was a nice move on someones part to contact the mayors office to complain about the giant slide . the two reps from office broke chops about permits and held up the kids fun for an hour. then the slide had to be switched to a water slide because of the paperwork.great use of taxpayer money.
this is supposed to be fun,not drama.and there were signs up and flyers put on cars telling everyone the block would be closed w/ no parking,everyone was informed and knew.for some reason,people could care less and refuse to move their cars. then they use their cars which means opening up the street so they can move off the block and then letting them back on when they are done so they can go back to their parking spot.
closed street means closed street,why can't the rules be followed for one day? there were tons of kids on the street. geez.
but all in all,it was a great block party even if others refuse to allow fun to happen.kudos to caroline and pals for all their hard work.

As someone who lives on one of the courts that is affected by the Allen Avenue block party, I have something to add. While I am mildly inconvenienced by the Alan Avenue block party it is but once a year as you say and anyone with any sense of consideration should be able to put up with it. The one complaint I have is the cars that were parked blocking access to Alan Avenue at Gerritsen ave all day and also on one of the Plum streets for most of the morning. Besides being against the law I'm also very concern about the safety aspects if an emergency vehicle needed to get by. I would appreciate it if next year the block party captain would address this problem.

I live on allen avenue and the block party was a great success….fane courts block party went on tll god knows what time and the music blasting with no comments from any of us!! People r just sick and have no lives and to even wanna drive ur car through a closed block with children running around is dangerous. I also find it amazing that if it was such a bother they shouldnt have allowed their children to play and ride their bikes on allen avenue. Guess that was okay though!!!

Why are ther only complaints from Fane Court? Allen Ave. Block party Goes from Gerritsen Ave. to Knapp st. No complaints from Aster,Bevy,Celeste,Dictum,Ebony, & Garland Courts as well as Plumb 1st and Plumb 2nd Streets. Everyone that was going to be effected was notified well in advance. So get your facts straight. I just hope that this doesn't keep the Mayor's office from allowing Future Block Parties in G.B. because of a few individuals.

The Allen ave block party effects the entire beach, what happened to huge banner that is put up every year a month ahead to to give us a warning of the upcoming event .Block parties are all over the beach during the summer some on the courts some on the avenues not every family joins in, as per people misbehaving we all know that the sound of music attracts people from all over some invited and some not uninvited .This block party is noticed because of it`s location it`s once a year the bugs will be ironed out

You probably hate the block parties because you can’t stand to see people actually having a good time when you are sitting home by your lonesome self. I hate this block party every friggin year. It is called a block party right? Well there is a helluva lot more than a block involved in this major inconvenience. Next year I am going to apply for a permit that bans a block party on that entire friggin road. And I do not live on any of the streets adjacent to this yearly white trash festival. Is it really so hard to use Ave W, I mean you are driving right? Block parties are a way of life in this town and hopefully continue for years to come. There will always be a bit a rif raf anywhere you go no matter what you do, its what you make of the time while you have it. i live on one of the side streets . the block part is a big event every year and up until now i never noticed any problems. this year was a mess. there were drunks stumbling in to other peoples yards, drunk teenagers pissing on peoples property and broken glass for other people to pick up

It makes me very sad that Fane Court had there block party and they didnt seem to worry about the elderly. There were posting up and down Allen on Thursday making everyone aware that Allen Avenue was having a block party.
Sometimes compromise with neighbors is called for and the Allen Avenue Block committee work very very hard to make the celebration a wonderful experience for all. This incident is unfortunate but maybe in the future neighbors on Fane Court wont be so selfish and so unwilling to negiotate to meet all needs

A Letter to the "Editor" (and I use the term loosely),
This site is the start of the reason why people can not get along as neighbors sometimes. You do nothing but "stir the pot" and "add fuel to the fire". The Block Party is over and done with, but you feel you have to start with your little "editorial" (again, I use the term loosely), and start all the back and forth between people. And it's not just with Allen Ave's Block Party, which every year you seem you have the need to stick your nose into, it's with everything that goes on down here. You think your reporting on events, but your agenda seems to be only to start trouble and get everyone all riled up over silly issues. Case in point, why did you only post the photo of the police on the block (that you took from someone else's site), there were plenty of positive photo's you should also have posted. So much for being "objective" in your "reporting". If you weren't so lazy, and got out from behind your computer and came down yourself, you would have seen
all the fun the children were having and how the neighbors DID come together to enjoy an end of summer celebration that is so much a part of being a kid in Brooklyn and creating memories to look back on.

Here is the real story : The first Allen ave block party the captains went around asking for signitures for the permit . Fane court and all the other blocks were invited to join in. At that time we were told a date and how much to be part of it. since then no one has come around to tell us when the block party is. What if there was a wedding or any other party? is that fair?This has happened more then once to us and we did not complain. FANE COURT IS A DEAD END BLOCK . there are 3 homes with elderly and sick seniors. all we asked is if they could put the blockades across so we can get across the street to plumb 1st. No one from fane court drove down allen ave. I did see people from allen ave open the horse that block the street from knapp and let cars go through to park their cars at the beginning of Allen to plumb first. only one family was involved on that half of allen ave. There are 5 young children onfane ct none of them were riding there bikes on allen ave.they were away. no one on allen ave is inconvienced with baracade when we have a block party. If you think about it you will understand why we were upset. We are friends and nieghbors. No one wants to make trouble or stop anyone from having fun. No one from fane court called and complained about the music or any noise. Between nieghbors we can work this out and make next year agreeable to everyone.

ok i live on allen and i understand fane courts frustration. next year we will notify you guys about when the block party is. but i do think there is a way that you can cope with the situation, even though it didnt do much destruction to the wonderful block party that we had. but if you live on fane you should know that our block (allen ave) is used as a speedway the rest of the time by gb residents

I think that they did a wonderful job with the block party and it was a huge success. I just wish that party goers would be a bit more considerate of the people who live on the side blocks and not double park. If we need to go out, we are stuck because we don't know who owns these cars. There is plenty of parking on Knapp Street, Ave W, etc, that can be used instead of trapping us in.

Fane Court block party goes to 3-4 in the morning and there is alway a wruckus. Allen Avenue residents cars have been damaged the last couple of years. Noone has complained about that, it is time to get along

How is it they are able to get a permit to close from Knapp to Gerritsen, last I heard the City Adminstrative Code said only one city block at a time could to be closed off for block parties, consecutive blocks could not have permits or be closed or blocked off at the same time. Must be some magic being done to get Allan Ave closed on one permit.
