Owner of original boat on fire is a non GB resident. Fire spread from 1st boat to the 2 boats on both sides of it. 2 boats totaled, 1 badly damaged.

We don't know the facts but if someone did this intentionally I hope they're caught and punished to the full extent of the law. It would suck to lose property because some jackass decided to torch his financial obligation. I hope we get a follow-up to this story since someone else posted this is "not the first one or two this year."

I think it was an insurance job… the two boats totalled belonged to owners who wanted to get out of their boats… one was new but was unhappy with it and the other guy was trying to sell his boat for a long time but didn't get any buyers..

I came to the site to see the damage done to my friends boat. It was one destroyed, not the one the fire started on. My friends are devastated. Never would they cause damage or put anyone at risk.

How horrible of someone to cry "insurance job" i know one of the owners and he & his family are devastated. even when people try to sell their boat they are still using it, are law-abiding, and enjoy the water & area. they have been there for over 20 yrs & have friends in the beach. Friends do not put friends, neighbors or acquaintances in jeopardy. Shame on you for insinuating foul play-wait until you get the facts.

People are not born yesterday.. its quite obvious.. you can paint a nice picture here, but it wasn't reality of the matter.. there were witnesses.. let's just put it that way… there's no way a fire can start in the middle of a deck..

Let me get this straight -Just because one was unhappy and the other was trying to sell his boat for a long time and didn't get any buyers that means they wanted to get out of their boats and it is an insurance job. Maybe in your world! And if you know so much about these boat owners why are you Anon? Why not say who you are, maybe then it would be believable. Easy to hide behind "Anon"

I have a good friend who lives down there. His safety is all that concerns me. And, you can only talk about insurance and scams. You people need a reality check. People could have been killed.

Kudos for the Vollies "we used to call them vamps", they were the first to get water on the boats. No idea how the truck made it down that block though. talk about tight fit. good job to all involved. sorry for the loss of property to the two owners. Glad more boats were not involved.

On behalf of all the Vollies, thank you for the recognition. I would also like to thank all the neighbors who quickly opened all the gates and helped us to get the hose line into place. As far as getting into the block, yes it was very tight, as was the turn into the block. A lot of thought went into the purchase of the Eng 1: it has 4 wheel drive, and is built on a relatively short wheel base so we can turn into these Court (providing that cars do not park right a the corner).

To the dummy who said fire can't start in the middle of a deck,to boaters and the general thinking public its called a dock. PS don't take the test to become a fireman or woman, even if they do redisign the. Its still won't be easy enough for you to pass! Thank God you were not on the job and responding to this fire! Thank GOD for all the brave and knowledgeable who did, Thanks guys for another job well ,you truly are New Yorks Bravest. And yes we will never forget those who went before you, saving all no matter what the consequences!!!!

I'm the owner of the boat that was damaged. I am just glad I wasn't aboard last nite or i wouldn't be writing this. Material things can be replaced, life can't. Sure I have thousands of dollars in damage, but it will be fixed. I'd also like to thank the Profesionals who responded promptly and saved myself, and others furthur loss of property. It could have been a real disaster.

Everyone can accuse and say whatever they want. If this fire was intentionally set, I am sure the insurance companies will find out, if they are insured. Insurance companies do not just hand out money. Unless someone comes foward as a witness, no one knows for sure what really happened as yet.

I want to thank the fire department for saving the rest of our property. It's amazing how they managed to get down that narrow street. These boats contain 100s of gallons of gas. The possibilities could have been MUCH WORSE! My boat was basically diagonal from the fire and could have been easily lost as well if there was any sort of wind. It's sad that people lost their boats, but at least it's not their lives.

I am the owner of the boat engulfed in flames in the middle. I was down there all day with the fire marshall's…we still do not know what started the fire but we did review the security cameras and there was no evidence of anything else than a horrible accident..I own the boat in the middle and I can assure u the last thing I would do it set fire to the one thing I love. I lost every piece of fishing equiptment I own and my 80,000.00 boat…

To the people that said it was an insurance job..you should realize there are good people in this world and not everyone is a crooked, dishonest, human being as u obviously are. I work everyday to afford my boat and I never would do anything to ruin it. So before u make assumptions u should try and find out the facts…never in my life would I do something like that. I take offense to what you said, and if u were in front of me..I would b in jail and it wouldn't b for arson….the other two boats are great friends of mine…and the amount of property lost is unpriceable…the worst part is we all lost a big part of something that truely make us happy…I look forward to my weekends where I spend time on the water…now unfortunately I will not be able to do this for some time now…thank u to the professionals that save the rest of the boats…

I would assume that those who lost boats in this fire will probably not recoup anywhere near fare value. With the insurance companies today I wouldnt be surprised if they were not covered at all. The way they exclude every possible scenario it would be foolish for anyone to set a boat on fire, because short of god himself lighting the match it probably isn’t covered. Leave the victims alone. How about not always assuming the worst and actually feeling bad for your neighbors losses

I agree, but if God himself lit the match that would CLEARLY be an 'act of God' and absolutely not covered under insurance. ; )

While I do feel bad for the owners loss. I would like to remind all that the Fire Marshalls do not show -up because they want to…and do not investigate every fire.. They are not your friends, they are there to investigate suspected arson fires..And are ordered to do so by the FDNY Chief in charge of the fire…If he determines some degree of suspicion exists… Their report will determine if this is an arson case or just an unfortnate accident…

Fire Marshals in the FDNY investigate any fire that the incident commander reported using "All Hands." The incident commander does not have to deem the fire suspicious in order to be investigated.

Joe : If the Chief uses 1+1 let us say on this fire….. He notices hook-ups for electronics….But no remainder of equipment….He will be suspicious…. Or you claim thousands of dollars in fishing equipment destroyed…Yet no remnants of rods or reels are left… He will be suspicious….. I saw people claim thousands of dollars in furniture and belongings destroyed… Yet all we found were old orange crates left… This is not to say that this is what happened only that the Chief in Charge is no dummy….

the chief can deem any fire as suspicous and have marshalls investigate, on the other hand if there is an all hands and it is clear to the chief what the cause was, maybe accidental electric or food on a stove, then he can make that call with the marshalls He's the boss

Can you tell us about how long it takes to complete one of these arson investigations?
