Now for some good vollie news!
The Gerrittsen Beach Volunteer Fire Department may receive a $50,000 grant from the state assembly to help with the structural upkeep of the Blue Star Mothers Hall at 43 Seba Avenue.
As of right now the Vollies are being cautiously optimistic because they still have to fill out the appropriate paperwork, jump a hoop or two but in the end it sounds like they will get the money.
Although $50,000 sounds like a lot of money, it is specifically earmarked for the building and not for any other expense.
Don’t think that you shouldn’t give whatever you can to the Vollies because they are rolling in money cause they are not.

We should all thank Assemblyman Alan Maisel for assisting our neighborhood and especially the Vollies. He has done a lot for the area.

The Vollies are a worthy group. The community should support them.
But think of each assembly member handing out these earmarked goodies to 10, 15, 20 groups in his district. May be more. Ands may be manya ren't as well-run or worthwhile as this, amy be even corrupt. And some bigger than $50,000. And now consider state senators and city councilmen doing the same thing.
That adds up, and it's how this city, state and federal government are pissing away all our money with huge deficits. And it's your money. And your taxes.
We really need to ask ourselves when we are going to stop this deficit spending and live within our means. It's often been said our republic can only survive as long as we resist the tempatation to vote ourselves this treasury.Member items like this is an example of doing just that.
