Unknown Container Springs DEC Hazmat

DSC_2475
This morning a NYS DEC hazmat team inspected the contents of an unknown drum abandoned on Gerritsen Avenue near Lois Avenue Weeds Side.

Interesting site to see two suited-up people in hazmat suits complete with duct-taped gloves.

It turned out that it was diesel fuel but who leaves a drum of diesel fuel on the sidewalk!

It looks like a bus shelter camera would have picked this up.

That is very weird. I hope they ran for fingerprints just in case something interesting pops up. Its an American Holiday remember, who knows what someone might have been up to on a block with rows and rows of flags.

Really? GB is high on the terrorist hit list? you mean thats more likely then it being something with all the half ass mechanics in the neighborhood. if you go down a few blocks to seba there is a house with a shot load of construction equipment in the yard.

Who said High on the list? Is your explanation more likely? Yes, but taking fingerprints wouldn't hurt would it? I wouldn't just totally dismiss it either.

It was a boiler that someone left on the street, they must have checked to see if it had fuel in it. They are doing construction on a house down the the end of the avenue, maybe they should check that out, just sayin, seems a little convenient.

Diesel isn't home heating oil. Nevertheless, we have alot of unscrupulous contractors in this neighborhood that dump illegally, although I don't think as many as there used to be. But if your having work done on your house, don't just ASSume that they are taking care of disposal ethically and legally. Ask questions. They typically charge you plenty for clean up and disposal, so make sure that you are getting what you are paying for.

AMEN Beachwalker – not that they're give you a straight answer if they're not doing it legally. However, if everyone drops enough hints that the community (and specifically someone who can point the finger at them) is aware and alert to the illegal dumping – whoever is doing it might think twice.
