Donnalee Davis was married to her husband Jack and moved to the Gerritsen Beach section of Brooklyn in 1993 and has lived there since; and

Donnalee began gardening in her new home in the second summer of her and her husbands ownership, and when Donnalee discovered poison ivy in her backyard she decided to tackle it dressed in a Tyvak mechanics suit and gloves, and on that summer day, Donnalee prepared herself some iced lemonade which she took regular breaks to enjoy while she was ridding her yard of the poison ivy; and

Donnalee had thought with all her gear she would be safe from the poison ivy but taking her gloves off to drink her lemonade gave her poison ivy that started on her wrists and spread lasting two weeks, and thus, her gardening adventure began; and;

The Gerritsen Beach Community Garden started in 1997 and Donnalee immediately began volunteering and continues to offer her time and energy to the beautification of her community thirteen years later, a garden that has blossomed under many leaders and volunteers including the AHRC who offered Donnalee their help with the garden on a weekly basis starting in 2007; and

Donnalee Davis is happily married to her husband, Jack, and hopes that people will feel welcome to stop in and visit the community garden when its gates are open; and now, therefore, be it
