Golden’s Womans History Month Awards: Mary Allen Bosco

WHEREAS, Mary Allen Bosco was born in Brooklyn, New York, Mary graduated from Bishop Kearney High School in 1980, attended St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn on a full scholarship and majored in Child Study/Special Education with a concentration in history, and she graduated cum laude in 1984, and Mary received a Masters Degree in Education from Brooklyn College in 1987 and she received an Advanced Certificate in Administration and Supervision in 1991; and

WHEREAS, Mary always had an enthusiasm for working with children, Mary became a teacher with the Department of Education in September of 1984 and began her teaching career in the very same school that she is now Principal, the Elizabeth G. Leary School, P.S. 207, having first taught first grade for eight years and fifth grade for three years before becoming the Assistant Principal in 1995, and

WHEREAS, Mary has been the Principal of P.S. 207 in Marine Park, Brooklyn since 1997, and she has transformed the previous elementary school into an exemplary Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 8 school which comprises two buildings and 1180 students, and has flourished under her leadership; and

WHEREAS, Mary loves her students, is passionate about extending to them the most excellent education in the world and believes that her teachers comprise the best staff in the City of New York, devoted to the students and dedicated to the school community and committed to excellence; and

WHEREAS, Mary married Salvatore Bosco in 1989, and together, they reside in the Oakwood section of Staten Island and have two beautiful children, Lauren and James, who have played an integral part in her life as does her mother, sister, and brother, Mary has been supported by her family throughout her career, and their support has enabled Mary to be a successful leader in education; and now, therefore, be it
