Tremendous Storm! Tremendous Damage!

DSC_7272

There were roofs flying off, house siding flying everywhere, the water at the point was flowing onto the street, there was flooding everywhere, trees falling basically on every block, the Tamaqua started to lose docks.

IT’S CHAOS OUT THERE!

If you can’t tell from the pictures and video below, the current, the winds, and the waves were eroding the point and pushing the sand down creek. It created a sandbar all the way down to Dare Ct.

How did everyone fair without power? We hear the the Old Section came up hours before the New Section.

Check out the literal ton of pictures and video.

Great pictures! Tried calling China New Star on Flatbush to order dinner, kept getting a busy signal. Ventured out only to discover from Flatbush to E 33rd many streets in Marine Park are in darkness. Saw trees down on E 35th & 36th and flashing lights down by Gerritsen Avenue. Hope all are safe.

A neighbor of mine who has been here since '75 says these winds were the worst she's seen it. Anyone experince worse winds than these at Gerritsen? I'm on Dare by the firehouse – seeing that water lapping at the sidewalk, I'm also wondering if the water has ever over-flowed and gone down this far in the past.

Anyway, sad to see that tree on Eaton Ct. go down. Last year my wife and I watched as what seemed like an hour long parade of dragon-flies headed to the tree at twilight. Countless birds made that tree home. We're surprised that tree came down and not some others I thought for sure would get knocked over.

I remember a storm when I was little (early '60s) before Gerritsen Ave was raised where there were rowboats going up & down the Ave & the buses were in water up to their headlights! I don't ever remember winds like we had yesterday though !! Our power was out for 3 and a half hours – I feel lucky it didn't go out for days !!!!

LOST DOG ……. did anyone lose or know anyone who may own adog that was found walking, soaked in the storm last night. The dog was found walking at Madoc and Melba ct. Female, medium tan in color. The dog is apparently elderly and has problems walking. Looks like a catarac in one eye. If anyone knows who's dog it may be if you respond to this post with your email and I can get back to you with information.

Someone is looking for a dog. I saw a woman earlier speaking to a couple of young girls on Madoc and Cyrus. The woman was holding a leash, so I figured she was looking for her dog. I didn't want to interupt, and when I looked out again to ask her about it, she was gone. Sorry thats all I know, but if I see her again, I will tell her to post. Hugs to anyone that takes in an animal in distress. Any port in a storm!
