Gerritsen Beach has been hit with snow again and to make matters worse (for kids) New York City public schools will be open tomorrow
After preemptively closing schools before the last snow—awarding students their third snow day in the past six years—Bloomberg announced this afternoon that city schools will remain open on Friday.
In a statement to 1010WINS that leaves just enough doubt for students to feel disappointed right now, and again tomorrow morning, he said: “My hope is that the snow will stay to the north and west of us and we’ll just have rain, our kids need another school day … We will cancel school only if it really would be dangerous to get the kids into school and get them home.”

It sure is pretty but a huge pain in the a$$.

Do those dollar signs mean you work for the sanitation department?

The reason our Mayor hesitates to close public schools is because the student's parents rely on the school to babysit their children while both parents work. Unfortunately, it's a necessity of the times.

I don't know about others but sometimes its a bigger burden to get kids out of the house and to school in the snow than it is to just stay home, with having to clear a path, clean off the car, drive, and find a good spot in front of the school or even worst if they take a school bus, stand out there guessing what time the bus is coming.
