Michael Sandy to get Memorial at Plumb Beach Rest Stop

DSC_6186

Michael Sandy, a gay man, who died after Anthony Fortunato, John Fox, and Ilya Shurov lured him to the plumb beach rest stop to steal his money, is now going to get some sort of tombstone like memorial at the rest stop.

According to SheepheadBites, CB 15 voted unanimously to approve this memorial.

The plumb beach rest stop area is run by federal, state and city agencies. All of which do not want the responsibility of stopping the area from washing out to sea. The whole area is being held together by sandbags.

I’m not sure how this is possible. NYC Parks commissioner Spegial whom(im assuming) would be the one agency to have the final say if the memorial gets erected, has gone on record as saying:   “Parks should not be named after dead people” and “Parks are not cemeteries… no memorials allowed”.

That should be good news for us here in Gerritsen Beach, all of our tombstone like memorials in Larry Veiling field should be approved in no time. After all those people we memorialized died from the largest hate crime in history — 9/11.

Wasn't he there for unscrupulous reasons anyway.

I believe so but I hope you are not implying that he deserved what happened to him.

Doesn't really matter does it? Unless he was there to kill someone and they defended themselves, which was not the case. Don't you feel stooopid?

Its o.k. to have gay sex in a public park as long as you don't rip out the benches or set fire to the park. If he would have tried to run down some cops they would name a street for him like Sean Bell. I guess Lew is looking for the gay vote.

You mean to suck someone off? Why then yes!

Don't take this the wrong way. I believe that mr sandy was a great guy etc etc but I don't believe that the city should be allowing memorials to be erected either by foundations or by city planners. I'm tired of the memorials on all of the roads I drive on….I get it a white bike means someone died….you were important….you cant just start erected memorials everywhere. Why is this man different?

If this kind of dialogue continues, I just may unsubscribe to my Playboy channel.

    All kidding aside,

I just wonder if there were female hookers hanging out at Plumb Beach would this city be as tolerant as they are now?

I think a memorial is ridiculous. This guy was trolling for young boys to have sex with in a parking lot for cripes sake. And more than willing to bring drugs with to share with these kids. Doesn't Michael Sandy have any responsibility for what got him killed? Not that what happened wasn't a tragedy, but it was just as tragic for the boys whose lives were ruined by a bad idea gone wrong. I think turning Michael Sandy into a hero is stupid. But I guess after the Sean Bell street naming, nothing suprises me anymore.

"A bad idea gone wrong"? How is planning out a murder and robbery just a bad idea. yes their lives were ruined but they are criminals.

You don't know what you are talking about. They didn't "plan out a murder". They took advantage of the fact that the guy was trolling for anonomous sex with young men and asked him to bring pot so they could rob it. He freaked out and ran into traffic. Like I said, very tragic, one of those terrible things that you would like to just rewind and have never have happened, but to make Michael Sandy completely innocent in all this is wrong and to make those kids out to be "crimminals" isn't accurate either. I can't speak for the other 2, I don't know them but John Fox was and is a great kid who had a great future ahead of him. If only he hadn't come home that weekend and had stayed up at Maritime College he would be living his life as it should have been. None of it should have happened, but do you really think that there should be a memorial to Michael Sandy? MMMMmmm (Maybe something large and phallic.)

Sandy may not have been an upstanding citzen, and to be honest I don't know if he deserves a memorial, but 'great" kids do not lure some body to a deserted place to rob them. And what type of great kid sends an email promising homosexual sex in exchange for pot?

  • The other side of th

What if, an unsuspecting young man had tried to escape from some pervert trying to put the make on him at Plumb Beach, and running across the parkway to escape his advances, he was unfortunately killed by oncoming traffic? Would the armchair liberals even consider a memorial for the innocent young man?
