The restaurant which was famous in Russian community needed more space. That concern was echoed by all of the reviews.

When a resteraunt has it’s curtains constanly closed and does not invite outside business it does not leave a favorable impression. I will be glad to see Chinar go. I can only guess what went on in there.
It doesn’t matter to me if it becomes Jahn’s or The Flame, as long as a restaurant opens where one can see beyond the windows and the general population be welcomed in. I’d hope for a place that maybe we can grab a good old fashioned hamburger and some ice cream ( kitchen sink) to chase it down with, anything everyone in the neighborhood could enjoy.
Dosvedanya Chinar. Take your two spot hogging BMWs with you.

I agree Tom never could see the inside of that place hm…… but would love to see a good old american hamburger place like it use to be good times in the flame! I actually remember the real old flame before the resturant looks like it does now. Good old days wish we could bring some of them back!

lol soooo your concern is that the restaurant has curtains? its not like there was some illegal drug exchanges and murders inside there. its extremelly classy and the curtains were just very pretty especially from the inside. and about american food…. you can find a nice heartattack with some oil on a plate (hamburger) anywere. this is america duh? mcdonalds? dennys? el greco? all those nasty places to get nasty food. so please – none of you should waste your time hating on russians – i know for a fact i just wasted 2 min of my life typing this. i find it amusing that people take the time to comment on stuff that happens in gerritsen. it just causes controversy and fights. no one wants to hear eachothers opinions on races and restaurants and stores and blahblahblahblahblahh.

I remember when the flame closed and the owners remodeled and open it again as another restaurant. That soon closed and then another and then another. What the owner failed to understand was it wasn’t the type of restaurants that drove people away, it was the employees. Does anybody remember the Italian restaurant that had an all-you-can-eat menu? The first and only time I went there, it to me six tries to find a clean dish at the buffet table, yucks.

Wow, Trainman, until you mentioned it I had completly forgotten the other places. Even when it was the Flame, it wasn’t too clean. I went to school with kids who worked there and they were always talking about the roaches. Yech! It would be nice -especially with the diner gone- to have a good, clean, reliable burger joint though.

I work in one of the areas local firehouses we would get calls for the smoke coming from the roof every time we went there they hassled us and treated us liks shit. We are required by law to investigate all plumes of smoke like they produce when we are notified.

all you people are so silly. its going to be funny when a bank opens up here or another drugstore. there will never be another successful restaurant in this location. calling people names that you don’t even know shows how much class there is in GB. like i said before nothing but white trash.

The only thing I know about Chinar is that it served Russian Cuisine and that there were always 15-20 people outside smoking. Chinar closing has no impact on me whatsoever…I have never eaten there and I would probably never have eaten there. Nothing against Russian cuisine, it is just not my preference. I would love to see an old fashioned hamburger and ice cream joint open up. Odds are that many people feel the same way as I do. Let’s see if someone has the resources and initiative to try to do it. More likely than not, though, it will be a bank, a gas station, a donut or coffee franchise, or a fast food place (White Castle, anyone). Hope it works out, whatever it may be.

I have already inquired about purchasing the place, unfortunately they want $10,000. a month rent!! I dont have that type of funding and the restaurant would have to be really successful. Sorry

At that rate it seems like a franchise, like IHOP or Boston Market, would be contenders for that spot.

just because its not your cup of tea doesnt mean that its not a russians cup of tea. you all have all of gerritsen beach what else do you want? what does russian ppl smoking outside do to you? tons of ppl smoke in gerritsen. please, all these excuses are pathetic. not to mention, fast food is nasty and unhealthy. gerritsen breach as a whole doesnt need anymore of that. hmm, all of brooklyn as a matter of fact

This is amazing. How could majority of replies express so much ignorance. Does the whole GB community live under a rock? People, this is 2010 and eastern European immigration has already peaked out. Russians have lived (and still reside) in areas surrounding GB for decades already, how hard is it to learn to live with it by now. Why show hatred with no legitimate reason?
On the topic of Chinar, it’s a restaurant, not some American sports bar where you walk in on a weekend to have a beer. It’s a place where major celebrations are held and just like all the other catering events, the interior atmosphere is usually dimmed down without the use of daylight.
Many of you are hating and saying goodbye (and other retarded phrases you’re trying to use without being aware of its meaning) while the place is actually expanding and moving on to bigger things. So enjoy your admirations of the vacant building as well as your much needed extra parking at Key Food, while Chinar continues to serve its community at another location.
FYI, I’m not affiliated with Chinar, nor have I ever been there.

Here’s the thing GB people really don’t care about Chinar or the people. It doesn’t bring $$ to us. Good for Chinar it’s moving to little Adesa were it will be much more appreciated we just don’t want it here that’s all. We know your in the community but you don’t interact with the locals so the locals really don’t care about you. Maybe if you were more friendly it wouldn’t seem so bad esp to you.
Like I said good for Chinar much luck to them because all the other Russian restaurants didn’t make it in the neighborhood.

Whatever. I’ve lived in Gerritsen Beach my whole life and have never gone into Chinar and have always wondered what it was like behind those curtains. And then I said to myself “Who cares?” Their whole business was directed to the russian community and only to the russian community. It was an invite only and GB was never invited.
Some of you people need to stop giving them the benefit of the doubt and trash talking on gerritsen beach. Look at all the chinese and japanese restaurants who welcome italians/germans/irish/etc people into their restaurants with a smile (China new star!!). They are even so kind as to visit our blocks and place menus in our mailboxes. Have you guys ever seen a chinar menu in your mailbox? Granted, they are a “sophisticated” place and probably would not do that but have you ever seen postings of Chinar in the “Our News” or some sort of Chinar advertisement around our neighborhoods? Better yet, have you ever see Chinar have a menu displayed outside of their building like most restaurants so that local pedestrians would walk by and be intrigued by their cuisine? Finally, has anyone ever walked by Chinar and recieved a smile from the outside smokers? NEVER. They looked at me like I had five heads. Why? Because it was invite only and they didn’t want anyone there but Russians and that’s a fact and you people need to understand that and stop avoiding the obvious. It’s not that we are not open to different foods (I love sushi), it’s because they aren’t open to our attendance. GB is filled with wonderful people that they neglected for years. All their customers came from word of mouth that traveled strictly through the russian community. That restaurant stuck out like a sore thumb and I’m glad it’s gone. They didn’t want us there so we don’t want them there. Quit Smoking!
As to what should go there next. Let’s not worry about putting the right thing there but worry more about not putting the wrong thing there like Chinar II. Whatever

Mom is a good cook and everybody was always welcome at my family’s table. My father came from Italy as a boy, learned english and raised his family as AMERICANS not russians that live in the USA because they get paid to come over. They are moving because the russians are a closed minded people and going to a central location.
