I have nothing but good memories of my friend, Mary Powell – of how many people can we honestly say that? That should tell you how wonderfully special of a person we have lost.

I personally found great inspiration from Mary – she never backed down from anyone, and she was respected by everyone. I will always remember her standing up at CB15, politely but forcefully chiding the board for how they handle special permits in the sort of elegant and tenacious way that was unmistakably Mary. Even now, I can't help but smile at the thought.

We have lost a true neighborhood advocate, and many of us, including myself, have lost a good friend.

It is a great loss to everyone, whether you knew Mary Powell or not, you were touched by her, because of her unselfish contributions to each community within her ken.
