Community Benefit for Fire Victims

DSC_5081

Last Saturday night, January 30th, 2010,  Gerritsen Beach held a Benefit for the family devestated by a fire a few weeks ago. To say that the Tamaqua was packed is an understatement, it was more like packed to the gills the entire night. Rare Form and DJ Ferillie played the entire night

Senator Marty Golden stopped by to talk with the family and crowd.

The whole community really came out to support to family.

glad things went well for the hayes family but what about kathy? it's been said she was "visiting" the hayes family…if memory serves she's been "visiting" for a while. how many of US have "visitors" they use our side door or come in the basement, their mail is in our box, but we place it by their door and they dont have insurance because they are "visiting". its my understanding she lost everything but the clothes on her back. is anything being done to help her while she finds somewhere else to "visit"? there was mention last month about a cort club fundriaser but there is nothing on the calendar? this is a great community and i am still proud to call it home but we should be offering and delivering help to everyone who has been devastated by this fire.

I cant speak for everyone else but I have no idea what you are referring too. It sounds like you know alot more about what is going on than most.

I know what he is talking about. Kathy lived there (oops I mean visited everyday). She also lost everything except since it isnt her house she doesnt have insurance and will not be compensated for anything that she lost.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 5 Thumb down 4

I believed she was visiting, If there is any insurance it maybe a problem if she were other than a visitor.

so another words they didn't have renter's insurance, I meant visitor and the FULL contents of the house was not insured. Remember you only have it if you buy it

I am happy to see that once again Gerritsen Beach is pulling together to help a family in need get back on their feet! The turnout in the Tamaqua on Saturday night for the Hayes family was incredible, and while it is times like these that make me proud to be a member of this community, i was at the same time disappointed that not once was Kathy, the 'visitor' as she was once referred to, mentioned. She also lost everything she owned! Items as little and meaningless as the clothes in her closet to the baby pictures of her son that can never be replaced. Things she will never get back. She has lived in this neighborhood for as long as I can remember and I have not seen a bit of support or concern thrown her way. A few weeks ago there was a notice posted on this site about a fundraiser to be held at the Court Club on February 13th, but sadly that has been removed and there has been no further mention of it. It just does not seem fair that she has been written off as a mere "visitor", while she has been a part of this community her entire life! She is one of US and she now has to start all over again without the much needed help and support of her community. The fire that took place on January 4th was a devastating fire for many and it sad to see that only some are getting the help they need.

On another note the event / party was GREAT and WELL attended, I'm a little shocked about how much was raised, doesn't it seem low

There is always someone who makes an observation without having all of the facts. Provision is being made for Kathy.

    By no means has Kathy been forgotten. Kathy has been living with a another friend and is doing OK, of course she could be doing alot better. We have setup a few things for Kathy;

    1. Patrick Beatty and his family who live on Aster court have been doing a some repairs at their other house on Beacon court in which I believe she and her son will be staying. When I spoke with the Beatty’s last, they were going to contact her with the details.

    2. Once the home repairs have been completed, we have acquired furniture, TV’s, tables and beds for them to use.

    3. The property owner’s president George Broadhead has offered to take Kathy shopping for clothing, and the Lutheran Church has offered Kathy to come to the gift shop to get whatever she needs.

    4. During a conversation I had with Tommy and Phyllis about Kathy, they told me that her personnel belongings would be replaced and that they will be helping her in a most generous way.

    5. As for the fundraiser at the Cort Club, I have placed a date on the calendar but I am not sure if it would work and I am not sure if it is required due to the responses listed above. I will keep you posted on that one.

On behalf of the Hayes family, I think everyone showed their real colors of what a neighborhood like ours can really do. Thanks to you from,

Tommy, Phyllis, Lindsay, Tommy Jr, and Gianna.

Whoever knows Kathy please feel free to donate directly to her, cash, clothes, whatever. When the final details and date are determined about the fund raiser for her it will be posted. Coming here and telling about her situation that everyone already knows about isn't helping her. Put your money where your mouth is.

The fund raiser was organized by a member of the hayes family. His niece I believe. it is natural that she would like to help her family. She did a lot of work to put it together. if some one is upset that there is not anthor fund raiser, THEY should put it together

I thought the other people who lost everything were "friends visiting", so much for friend just visiting.. I guess the old saying business is business may apply

        How?

people went to trouble to put together a fundraiser for a family member. If you wish to donate to "friends" then do so, no one is preventing you from giving money to another family.
