Garbage Piles Up Living in the Old-Old Section

Coming in Via Email.

Old-Old Section you ask? I’m talking about Kay Court, Landis Court, Merit Court, off of Just Court. It’s the only section of the old section which is not connected to any sort of Avenue. Which is just weird.

In this part of the old section, Garbage pickup is completely dependent on the cars that are illegally parked on the corners which blocks sanitation (therefore fire) trucks access to the blocks.

Bartlett Place is a one way all the way down to the water, with the ability to make a left (toward cryus) on Abbey, Canton, Eaton, Noel, Hyman, and Just Courts. There are no parking signs on those respective blocks allowing access for larger vehicles room to turn.

The problem for residents of Kay, Landis, Merit and Just Court residents is that if someone removed those no parking signs. Surprising? When someone is parked there there is no Garbage pickup. Which can sometimes last for weeks.

There are numerous no parking signs on Bartlett missing. If you wanted to make a left onto Bartlett from Beacon, Dare, Frank, Gain, and Ivan Courts. Signs below Frank are missing making lefts ONTO Bartlett difficult if not impossible.

I’m pretty sure the statements about garbage going unpicked up for weeks is bogus. I live on one of the “Old-old section” blocks and I can assure you that sanitation workers have no problem playing detective and waking the entire block up to find out who’s car is in their way and telling them to move it. The parts about the no parking signs are true, and some residents even took it upon themselves to create their own no parking zones in front of their house by installing metal poles in the “sidewalk” and street.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 7 Thumb down 6

Apparently you do not live on one of the 3 dead end blocks mentioned. Kay, Landis & Merit have it bad. These blocks are at the mercy of Just Ct. parkers. This is a unique situatuion in the whole of GB. There should be parking rules on Bartlett Pl & Just Ct for pick up days. On another note these streets are supposed to have open access to the creek. Each dead end has been taken over by the landowners at the ends of the blocks & sealed off. This is something GB Net should really look into.

      1. You want me to look into sealed off dead ends?

Not “sealed off dead ends”, STOLEN dead ends. Check out Steve G’s post. The dead ends have been stolen in land grabs. There used be open access on each of these dead end streets where you could take your kids snapper fishing. Kay, Landis & Merit. They have ALL been stolen by land grabbing property owners who either live at the end of the blocks or own marina/yacht clubs there. This was city property that was just fenced in & taken over by private land owners. Yes, it should be looked into.

A few years back there was a fire at 6 Landis Ct. There was a house that was totally destroyed due to E321 being unable to navigate onto Just Court from Bartlett, and down Landis from Just. They ended up stretching a hoseline from Just and Merit courts. This is a serious problem down here, and garbage is the least of it. But, as a lifelong resident of Landis Ct., I can tell you that the Sanitation guys do try their best to get down this block, but sometimes yes, a week or longer can easily go by without pickup. It’s not their fault; it’s the same people time after time that prevent the trucks from turning and refuse to park anywhere else on pick-up days. I do not know where the first poster named Steve lives, because he sure doesn’t live on Landis.

As far as the Dead End’s of each block being taken over, it is the absolute truth and I had contacted GBnet in the past to look into it to no avail. These 3 blocks have got to be the only streets in GB where the Dead End access to the water has been outright stolen from us in some kind of illegal land grab.

The people that park that close to the corner or those that removed the signs are selfish people. God forbid the fire trucks can’t get in.. homes will be lost or even lives….Those people that have residence on the corners should all get those signs back for their neighbors protection.

My family has lived on the corner of Just and Bartlett for close to 60 years and I can assure you that there has never been a city installed No Parking Sign anywhere adjacent to the property on either Bartlett or Just. It has been long understood with the Sanitation workers and my family and our long time neighbors not to park at the corner of Just or the intersection of Just and Merrit on pickup days, and it has worked for all of us. Our garage and parking gates are located just north of Merritt ct on the east side and we have placed many no parking signs on the gates in an effort to help only to have them removed by our new neighbors and they park in the driveway with no regard for anyone but themselves.
So please do not make assumptions that signs were there to begin with and have been removed by residents on the corners.

      Thank you,

      Jim D
