Cause the warm weather isss coming.I'm no angel and practically grew up in Gerritsen Park. My mother chased me out of there more nights than I would like to remember. I don't think these kids are mean, possibly just a little selfish. They more likely than not don't get that littering is infantile and destroying property for shits n giggles is moronic. I'm not that keen on the actual things that transpire up there, cause I stopped hanging out up the park about 4 years ago(<- sarcasm). But instead of waiting for the cops, the cops the cops, why not make it your initiative to go up there? Am I giving these kids too much credit?Why not take a night when schools off the next day and go up and try to talk to these kids? Has anyone gotten together and even tried that? Sorry George but this one is wrong, if we were a jewish community they would have a command center parked on the avenue or atleast a car assigned to the park. this is what we pay taxes for. I think of being a police officer as a profession, and they are underpaid.. Which is why many of them have to take second jobs. The program was started in 1998, and based on an article by Joanne Wasserman, in the Daily News, in 2003, the program allows officers to moonlight in uniform--providing security for stores, neighborhood associations....The PBA President, said at that time, the companies were paying for security "that New York City should be doing." The City charges "administrative fees" for the service, that has proven to be a financial benefit to the city. How about using some of that profit to increase our security needs. Another thought, I'll toss out: is along the ideas of volunteers, as has been suggested. How about "Adopt a Cop". Here in Gerritsen Beach, we have many NYPD.officers. Maybe we can find a way to get them to work in their own community in uniform. As for pay? But then again they can't do anything and if they could do something they are too intimated to do anything. They should stop dumping City money into something that they are only going to destroy further. You want a better neighborhood start hitting these kids with big fines and watch how there parents do a 180 on the way they raise there kids. $250.00 Summons for being in the park after dark is fine in my book. Don't want to give me your name get in the wagon and we will bring you down as a John/Jane Doe till we know who you are and double the fine for wasting our time. Run and we catch you double fine along with misdomeanor obstruction charge. Better yet just assign a K-9 Unit to the area and send the dog after the kids let them run now.
