Skate Park Mini-Crack Down and Bad News for Swastika Crew

Although we pointed out that the Seba Avenue is just senseless vandalism and not some bias incident.

After a bit of research it turns out that Etching, painting, drawing or placing a swastika on public or private property without permission, along with cross-burning, are considered felonies punishable by up to four years in prison. Really? Yes really!

On top of that, the police have been issuing “a few” summonses to people in the park after “closing”.

While I personally feel that anyone caught vandalizing esp. via graffiti should be dealt with harshly, sending some dumb teen to jail for up to four years is a bit draconian don’t ya think?

Kids were been drawing swastikas, iron crosses, etc. on their notebooks and binders when I was in school back in the ’60s & I’m sure it’s continuing today to some extent.

A better solution would be to catch the offenders and have them talk to a Holocaust survivor or watch Schindler’s List or something very similar and hopefully they will think twice before doing something that most people consider an anti-Semitic act on public property.

@blueMagoo, Hi, I remenber back in the mid 1960s seeing a movie that Mr Snider a teacher at Marine Park JHS showed our class about the holocaust, That movie changed most of use how watched it. Mr. Snider showed that movie to all his students year after year and the inpact was a live lesson on what can happen when we think that people are diffent because of ther color or what they believe. Call the schools and ask if they can help with this. Peace ED walsh

Although this was addressed on another ‘thread’, I had already spoken with the the Park and Recreation Mgr. for Brooklyn Parks, with the same suggestion as blueMagoo. In fact, I have been working on an article addressing how we might go about that. It will appear in the next issue of “Our News”, and on this website, and we will present it at the next GBPOA meeting on January 6th.
Hopefully, there won’t be a rush to judgment. As for the benches and destruction, that’s another matter, and the law is very clear about that….
