Wow, the project isn’t even finished and the peanut gallery is ready to condemn it. Smart.

John, I’ll tell you what’s not “smart”. And that is insulting 90% of the people who use Gerritsen Ave. and disagree with this project, without a valid, intelligent alternative. At the corner of Gerritsen and Ave. U it will, I mean already is, a nightmare. The pedestrian island, the one lane lines, the no left turns, along with Key Food, and rush hour traffic that bails from the Belt Pkwy up Knapp Street have already caused major delays, with no end in sight. Not to mention the delays it will cause Engine 321 when they are trying to respond to emergencies while having to travel southbound on Gerritsen Ave. in the middle of all this mess. We re-elected Bloomberg, who is now telling us a whopping $5 Billion dollars must be cut from the budget. It’s wasting money on pork projects like this that will cause our neighborhoods to make do with less money for our schools, less police officers, and the shutting down of firehouses. Not to mention higher property taxes, water and sewar taxes, and hidden taxes like summons blitzes and surcharges. I believe most people disagree with this project, especially when this city is going to be cutting, cutting, and more cutting our services in the very near future. Please tell us any positives you see with this debacle.

@Steve G, Doesn’t anyone else in this city see that Bloomberg is spending millions of dollars on senseless projects like this one and many many others, then charging us for them by raising taxes? I feel that we should have some say in where our tax money is being spent! ENOUGH WITH GREEN STREETS!!!!!!!!

I’ll just leave a quote from my management school days “If people don’t like something, they’ll try to kill it” That’s what you’re trying to do by documenting every incident and blaming it on the “lines”

The Mayor is fighting the MTA Employees for their much deserved raise increases & they go and spend money on unnecessary stuff like this …. Good Job To The NYC,DOT & Bloomburg … It seems as if the voting public elected the right candidate again

Damned skippy that the DOT never gave residents a chance to weigh in (watch video). This is a disaster waiting to happen (and already has). I witnessed a bus attempting to make a turn and couldn’t do it. He had no choice but to go through the red light and try to squeeze into ONE lane and this was at 2:00 in the afternoon.

This was a total F.U. to the residents about the green street project, I’m afraid to say. They did what they wanted anyway without the greenery. Unreal.

I ask: If we were invited to and advised about a meeting regarding the green street project way back when, why was it that NOBODY I know even knew this was happening until it was posted here on this website and then carried out? And, for the record, it doesn’t just affect GB residents…it involves Marine Park as well.

Oh, and while I’m at it: The “no crossing school” street signage was taken away in front of Resurrection. Why? Am I mistaken, or is there not still a school at this location?

    1. Beachwalker says:

@Holy Moses, Yeah, without the greenery or the bike lane. At least without the greenstreets curb, you can still drive around the double parked cars and trucks, but they just went ahead and did what they wanted. Ressurection is now a school for severly autistic kids and they are all picked up by little cheese doodle buses in the back parking lot, so they probably didn’t need those signs anymore.

Greenstreets was Senator Golden’s project and he was at least letting the residents have the last word and that project was a wash. You know this is not Senator Golden’s project. He would’ve had a community meeting. What else was done without a meeting in Gerritsen. Maybe Seba Avenue Park? Was there a Community Meeting about that? Sounds like the same Elected Official to me…

NYC & DOT. The Road work is done on Gerritsen Ave and nobody can make a left turn on Ave U which means my Mother in-law will have to drive by my house to get out of Gerritsen beach every day & every time that she wants to shop on Ave U.

Where are all the local pols on this issue as in Lew from Brooklyn, et al?

Oh that’s right we just had an election so MAYBE some of them will feign concern for our local problems once again in four years or so.

Anyone with half a brain could have seen this traffic nightmare coming a mile away but…

Just a note: This is called “traffic calming”. It was meant to make sure no one can speed and that is why you see the cars following behind each other in a single line. There is no way to pass and speed. It was also meant to keep people that are crossing from doing the mad dash across the street and gives the elderly and slower adults more time to cross.

Looking at that picture does anyone think that the dirvers of these vehicles were tailgating and that would have nothing to do with the lines. I don’t agree with the lines but I don’t agree with the speeders who are racing down the Avenue on the stripes.
