[Tug of War Canal Party 2008]

The Canal Party is the most unique in block party in Brooklyn!

The canal party is a semi-private event on the Gerritsen Beach Canal, which started in 1998. All residents on the canal are encouraged to have their own private party with family and friends in their back yards.

It is awesome to see these parties carrying on for all of us. I grew up on Knapp St. and Allen Ave. but spent the majority of my teen years in Gerritsen as I played baseball and hockey there, was a member of Kiddie beach, parents were Tamaqua patrons, went to Ressurection, worked at the Chimes and my father was a cop in the 63 patrolling the area. I now live in Florida and have to tell everyone back home that “There’s no place like home”.

  • You Sure about this?

This is not an upcoming event as it is not being organized by Michael Taylor this year. You may want to check with all the residents on the Canal to see who is organizing all of the events that you have posted above.

As what I am aware of, Mr.Taylor began the canal party about 10 years ago and has been the main person making sure all the events are moving along. He always followed the swimmers and kids in tubes to make sure they are safe. I have not seen any information advertizing a party this year. Maybe private parties, but not an official party with schedules activities

mike taylor is not organizing the canal party this year, but there is still a canal party anyway, it’s an annual party, so residents on the canal are still having it, but there are no events..cause mike taylor didn’t tell anyone he wasn’t doing it so there was no time for someone to take over..so hopefully next year if he’s not going to do it…someone else will organize then events…but the party still goes on.

    • I had fun

@anon, Many people were told tht the event would not beorganized by anyone this year. The funny thing is that a private event is being advertised on this website. It should not be one person who organizes a full day of activites for our kids, we all should be involved and it is a shame that nobody has stepped up to take charge, since many have known for a few months that nobody will be running it.

  • It is sad

@no party this year, It is sad that one person had to organize this one evetn for the past ten years and that now that he can not do it, this year, nobody will step in to to collect a dontation, plan the day, schedule the races, start and run the races, prepare packages with Balons, give aways, inflatable tubes, etc to be given out to each home who participates. All who comlain shoudl step up and support. Its easy to complain, now try steping in and doing something.

Maybe this website, gbnetcares.org can step up and get a boat to make sure the chiuldren are safe, they can then take pics from it and follow t he children? Maybe, they can purchase the tubes and life jackets for the chilredn and hand them out? Just a thought. Somebody step up quickly and everyone make sure that the children are being watched in the water.

Maybe next year, they should form a Canal Party Commitee to organize and run the events.

agreed there should be a commitee, but i think if people known sooner that he wasn’t doing it, someone would of stood up….people didnt’ find out to recently and i guess there just wasn’t time to orangized all that stuff in time, but there will still be a canal party! just i guess no activity…hopefully everyone will think before hand next year…being that it’s an annual thing, everybody knows what day it is every year. hope everyoen enjoys sunday
