[Skywatch From Last Year]
As the 4th approaches, cops are arresting against anyone found selling and possessing illegal fireworks, we may be also getting skywatch(above) again this year.
Since May, cops have been encouraging residents to report on anyone dabbling in illegal fireworks.
Currently, cops have the authority to close businesses and confiscate cars if fireworks are found inside them, officials said.
Last year, the NYPD were seizing the cars of people who travel out of state to get their Fourth of July fireworks by staking out Pennsylvania vendors.
A $1,000 reward is being posted for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone found possessing or distributing fireworks.
Anyone who knows someone storing or selling fireworks can contact 311. Those witnessing fireworks being set off can call 911.

how about putting that survalance look out in a neighborhood where drugs are sold and multi killings are happening every day how about the 75 pct which had more murders than any where in the united states

@mike t, Right! why isn’t the tower put in areas where people are being shot and killed everyday…catching a kid with fireworks is more important than stopping serious crime, I just don’t get it.

Ever think the majority of the community isn’t really appreciative of the constant “bang bang bang” all day long? The number of 911 calls for the neighborhood goes up. The police hardly come in to the beach on any day unless they get a call.
July 4th is Independence Day – a celebration of our country & our freedom. Take the money you’re gonna spend on fireworks & buy some supplies for our soldiers who can’t be home to celebrate at all.

there is nothing free about locking up people for having some fireworks. and i dont feel free when i have to look outside my house and theres a fucking cop tower across the street.

@eddie, I think the cops are doing a great job in keeping fireworks off the street. It’s great to be able to take my kids out to the park and not worry about some jerk setting off bottle rockets in the middle of the street. A few years ago it sounded like a war zone and now people can actually leave their homes on the 4th and not feel threatened with bodily injury. It makes me feel so free.

@bagels, i can understand that, but making them illegal is wrong. most people who use fireworks just set them off in front of their homes and enjoy them. just because a few dumb kids shoot them off in parks and shit, dose not give enough cause to outlaw them. arrest those people, not people in front of their own property not bothering anyone.

@eddie, No one is making fireworks illegal, they have been illegal in New York State for a very long time. I am sure the cops did not get together one day and say, lets go after those crazy beach people with their over the top firework displays. The added presence is because of complaints from the people who live here. That being said, I like fireworks on the 4th of July , they are part of our tradition, Washington said, we should celebrate our independence with grand illuminations. It is hard to argue the fact that people get seriously injured every year with fireworks, perhaps the best idea would be strict enforcement prior to and after the 4th and maybe turn a blind eye on our national day of celebration. I’m sure we can put up with the noise for just one day. I don’t like the tower it looks very soviet.
