      @joanna,

You must be new here. The beach has taxes and other bills to pay. The evrything else the city does not do it for us.

@joanna, Why did you put the word beach in quotes? Beach is defined as: 1) an expanse of sand or pebbles along a shore; 2) the part of the shore of an ocean, sea, large river, lake, etc., washed by the tide or waves; or 3) the area adjacent to a seashore.
See the pic? Wow – a beach!

    Summer Wind
The summer wind, came blowin in – from across the sea
It lingered there, so warm and fair – to walk with me
All summer long, we sang a song – and strolled on golden sand
Two sweethearts, and the summer wind

Like painted kites, those days and nights – went flyin by
The world was new, beneath a blue – umbrella sky
Then softer than, a piper man – one day it called to you
And I lost you, to the summer wind

The autumn wind, and the winter wind – have come and gone
And still the days, those lonely days – go on and on
And guess who sighs his lullabies – through nights that never end
My fickle friend, the summer wind.

    Wow,

I haven’t played Dibble Dabble in years off the rafts. Hum I wonder how many of our straw’s M.T’s crew cleaned up from us.

@Old Section, Ahh, Dibble-Dabble!!! It should have been made an Olympic sport! As kids, we could play it for hours on end, days on end, all summer. Being allowed to go to the raft was one of our rights of passage, a milestone. It still is I’m sure for the generations that followed us, and may it always be!

Okay, let’s get one thing straight. Kiddie Beach is a “privately owned beach”. It is owned by the owners of property in Gerritsen Beach, and has been since 1922. If a family owns a house within the borders, as defined by the Gerrittsen Beach Property Owners Association, Inc., they may join the property owners association, and, after school is out, Kiddie Beach, for a nominal fee–for the maintenance of the beach, and pay for Certified Lifeguards, gate keepers and material needs. The greater percentage of maintenance is done by volunteers. While we do not discriminate in any way, based on race, creed, religion, sex, age or handicap; that one own his or her home is a requirement. Just as Sea Gate, at the tip of Coney Island, or any other like beach. We have a few weekend openings, such as opening day, June 6th, before daily openings once school is out. I wouldn’t have responded to this thread, because, it is not necessary to publicize what the people in Gerritsen Beach have spent many years maintaining and developing with the goal of preserving the environment and saving a little piece of earth from crass commercialization, as is taking place in water inlet sections of this city everywhere. Including parts of Gerritsen Beach. But, since our “star” reporter would rather get a rise out of a few anonymous ignoramuses than consider the well-being of his own community. I can only say, it may not be much, but it’s our relief from the hectic world outside of this working class neighborhood.

I think the water is pretty gross. I am scared that in a few yrs we will find out that it reeally wasn’t in fact safe. Its a great place to hang out and meet up with friends and to get a quick bite to eat. The water??? Not so much!!
