    Does anyone from the neighborhood hang out there or is it all outsiders? Who owns the place? I have never been in the place myself. Is it an actual bar or is it a cafe? The place looks a little to trendy to be a biker bar.

      I stopped in there when it first opened and had the best latte of my life. They had really nice desserts and flavors for coffee etc. Very nice woman behing the “bar”, too. I pass by at around midnight every night and sometimes it’s quite crowded, I always figured probably a nice post AA meeting hangout. I think there’s a pool table too. Any crowd that I’ve seen there, from the bikers to the other crowds, always seem nice and well behaved. I think they also rent for parties and I read somewhere (Our News?) that there is an upcoming fundraiser there for Cystic Fibrosis. All in all they seem to be an asset to the ‘hood and good neighbors. @Mjolnir,

        @Beachwalker,

        Glad to hear it. I never thought of it as an AA hangout but it makes alot of sense. You woulnd’t normally find bikers sipping at a coffee bar. I’m a tea man myself but thanks for the info!

    I have no problem with them hanging out there; but I wish they wouldn’t be so noisy when they leave at 2 am. The revving of the bikes going down Gerritsen and turning onto Ave W is horrible to say the least…..

    I think its funny that we complain about motorcycles at 2am being noisy but not about the atv’s going up and down the courts in the old section all night long finally stopping around 6am and restarting in the afternoon. We also seem to tolerate the cars racing up the avenue all night long. I put up the with the motorcycles if the other noise makers would disappear.

      @neighbor,

      Not to mention the ATVs running up and down the point tot he point where you have to fight with them just to walk on the beach.

    re: noisy motorcycles

    Since I don’t live on a court I have not experienced the noisy ATV’s and cars racing. I am speaking from my own experience. It all boils down to one thing: having common courtesy to our neighbors. This includes racing cars, bikes, motorcycles; having loud noisy parties all night long. Just being considerate of one another.

      @anon,

      That’s my point. Are they even our neighbors?

      Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

    2. @anon,

      I might be touching on that subject very soon. Considering taking pictures like the wildlife photographers did to the Jet Skis.

      The ATV’s, Quads, are insane during the weekend and the scooters during the whole week, going to the NYPD is a dead end. The only way anything will get done might be to out them here.

      1. anon says:

        @GerritsenBeach.net,

        I didn’t intend to link the biker bar with the ATVs and jetskis. I was just adding to the comment regarding them. And yes the 61st pct is useless. I do not find myself walking down that section of the avenue that often anyway and the few times that I have I had no issue with them. Just because one rides a bike doesn’t make them a bad person by any means. There are quite a few people in the neighborhood who ride aswell. Heck, they may deter certain elements from moving into the neighborhood. If the patrons of Amici are going to behave like gentlemen (and laldies) then there is no issue. We have tolerated worse from our own neighborhood bars. It would be nice to know who owns or runs the place though just to have someone to go to if we need.

        Anything that we can do regarding the ATVs and Jetskis wold be great. I do not begrudge them having their fun in the weeds and creek but most of them seem to be in the mind set that the weeds and waters are all for them and foreget that their vehicles can kill someone. Yes I am aware that both vehicles are illegal. If they were more curitous to others looking to enjoy the beach I would not be as dead set aginst them. With the speeds they fly around at it it only mater fo time before another person gets seriously hurt or even killed.

    Why was there no comment about the fact that the motorcycles are parked in front of a fire hydrant? Bikers are linked to immoral/illegal activities across the nation and we do not need to have a hangout in our area. They have woken my children many times during the late night. They have no respect for others.

      Hi……I don’t have a problem with people who ride motorcycles; hell half my family does and they are moral and responsible people. I do have a problem with them revving the pipes at all hours of the day and night. (night especially) People who have children sleeping with windows open in the nice weather and people who do work days are startled awake. Bikers I know are generous to different charities and are good people; hopefully they will see the board and realize they aren’t being considerate. Also I would like to say how much I enjoy this board and I appreciate all your hard work!

          As a lifelong resident of GB (58 years), as well as a lifelong biker – 40 years, I do read these boards and resent your tone. I am not a thug, but a responsible homeowner, business owner and citizen. For your information, I am a college graduate, as are my children. I have been active here in GB and the surrounding community having coached and volunteered for many years. My riding a Harley Davidson for all these years has never been called into question when I was volunteering my time. Just because I choose to ride a bike doesn’t mean that I am a gang member. Although I don’t frequent the Amici establishment, I’m sure that the riders that do would be more than willing to move their bikes away from the fire hydrant if asked to do so. The gentlemen in the photo don’t exactly look as though they’re ready to tear the town up. Perhaps people should not be looking to start trouble where non exists.

    This is the typical GB response. This is my 1st reply on this thread and just wanted to say. When ppl make something nice in GB they usually catch some sort of grief for it.

    It is only a matter of time before ppl start making problems for the owner of Amici.

    In my opinion, I think he did a great job making a thriving buisness out of at one time was a storage bin for a local carpet buisness.

      @,

      Coffee keeps the bills paid for many deli’s. The mark up on coffee is the highest mark up of anything you would find in your local shop, save flowers (also a rediculous mark up). You very much can make money on coffee, and I don’t mean 5 dollar coffees either, I am refeing to the dollar per cup of joe.

      What do you find so acceptable about your new community?

      Does it have a great community web sites like GB?

      Does it even have a web site?

      Does it have community activists that are committed to the betterment of
      your neighborhood?

      Are you one of those activists or do you just talk the talk?

  17. Mike Steel says:

    I think it is funny that people fear what they do not know, how could their be post about bikers being involved with crime and calling them thugs when they are tax paying citizens that enjoy riding a motorcycle? Right away everyone stereotypes a motorcycle rider to be a thug or a criminal, you have no care that they are spending money in your nieghborhood? You have no care that they are the reason there is no crime on the avenue? You have no care that these are the same people that would protect you or help you out in a second and you bash them instantly because they do not live the life style you do? Then the attack goes towards the owner of the establishment, who says that the owner has anything to do with them being there? They are paying patrons that the owner will gladly serve. And the comment that the owner can not make that much money off of selling coffee is just another slanderous comment and that is why you choose to be annonomous for the retaliation of being sued for slander the second that the business dies down? Do yourself a favor and dont speak about what you do not know and if you know something state your name and your business. Otherwise enjoy the fact that people are coming to the area to enjoy themself and spend money , enjoy the safe walk up the avenue at any time of day or night because they are there and enjoy it being a cafe , you may get what you ask for and have it close down and be another empty store with nothing going on and an oppertunity for a criminal to strike. I see a lot of talk on here but not one person has turned around and and asked the guys to try and keep it down when they leave? Maybe say hey that is my window up there and my kid is asleep do you think you could keep it down a bit? I am sure they would kindly start their bikes and leave as quiet as possible rather then taking off like a animal full throttle. I speak from experience these are good guys that I would welcome in my backyard , front yard or home at anytime! I could understand how someone might be upset and so could they if you show some respect you will get some respect. Hope everything works out. Ive been coming to gerritsen beach for well over 20 years and it is nice to see some people hanging out that are not drunk falling all over the place and fighting. Love the Beach and always will no matter what, seems like a few people got out and left the second they seen something they didnt like and they are trying to get everyone else to do the same. This is a forum to talk about things there is no need to attack people.

      Yes, it is a forum to talk about things and to do it annonymously. Let’s remember that Gerritsen Beach is no Manhattan beach. Some people need to come off their high horse. Just wanted to add something , first things first as I said before I love the beach and have spent a lot of my time there growing up and still till this day my friends all live there from the beggining at W to the last block of lois. I have the utmost respect for the people that live in the area and I would not take any crap from anyone trying to ruin my neighborhood either so I do commend the concern. On the other hand I have to say from my point of view I have no seen anyone commend the owner of Amicci’s for not discriminating.

    As a “Biker” you are always stereotyped , you deal with the stares , the people that hate your bike and the noise it makes, business turn you around when they find out you are a biker because of the stereotypes that go along with it, and even through all of that I still put up with it because my passion to ride is stronger then ignorance.

    I have rode for many causes and donate a large share of my money to help, the reason you never hear of the good things bikers do is because the “bad biker” sells news papers and the good biker doesnt. Every year children have toys at christmas because of bikers , money is raised for causes such as autism , cancer and many bikers with long hair donate their hair to locks of love.
    I could go on and on about Gerritsen Beach and being a biker but the fact is there will allways be a stereotype , even though I stopped my bike and helped a 70 year old woman change her flat tire on Gerritsen ave and almost every sunday morning I ride my bike and watch the water at the end never waking anyone up I am sure I am still looked at like a criminal.

    Bottom line is there is a business open on the avenue, there are people out that are good people regarless of how you see them, and that is something I would much rather my daughter or wife walking by then a dead empty chain of stores on a late night. I can assure you there is no ill intent from the people that show up and you will find they are very easy to work with and very approachable.

    A motorcycle is Loud anyway you look at it, the quiet ones are dangerous there is a saying loud pipes saves lives , the bikes are loud for our protection on the road, there will never be a moment where a biker intentionaly revs the engine to piss off the nieghbors and there is no disrespect at all.

    On a final note I do love the beach and would love to see more people opening up business on the main avenue , there are great spots to open business that are still vacant for years now. I do agree with the comment Gerritsen Beach is no Manhattan Beach and I am glad for that! I would rather live in Gerritsen then Manhattan beach anyday !!!!

    Anyone that knows Gerritsen Beach the way I do knows that it is an area that continues to stay close knit and the community pulls together as shown in this very thread .

    For all the critic’s, why don’t you go in have a coffee, a drink, or snack, then make up you’r mind. I was there a couple of weeks ago, it was clean, there was a quiet crowd of local folks, although it was a Sunday afternoon.

      @seamus,

      Since the Mussers ruined the Bantry Bar, like everything else they touch, it might be nice to have a clean neighborhood spot to get together again. The Gather’ used to be the Public House for the neighborhood, now it collects the leftovers from Jims like the currents wash the garbage ashore.

        @Anon, I agree with that. The Gather used to be a great place to go after weddings or other parties or just go out to and see all the people you never run into for a nice neighborhood night out. Now it sucks and the Beach Bar sucks too. It’s boring and you gotta watch your money on the bar or AG sucks it in and tellls you he thought it was a tip. LOL, just like when he worked at the GatherInn. Maybe Amici’s can be the place to catch up with old friends and not worry about the kiddie drunk fights.

    For the record, Amici also has a Liquor License. It’s of Public Record. Some of your so called “outlaw” bikers also ride with a much bigger organization, the NYPD. You really shouldn’t talk crap about something you know nothing about.

    Well the people who are makeing negative comments are just narrow minded. They just go by what the see on tv how bikers are outlaws. Like JB Steel said we all take the time out to help charities donate money to kids who need it because either the family can’t afford it or they need to raise money to help find a cure. So before you people go around bashing things that they don’t know find out what it really is. As for the bar do you have the whole 61 down here at 2 in the morning because of a bar fight or anything I haven’t seen that because of the “outlaw” bikers. Just because your afarid of your shadow doesn’t mean there going to bother you they’ll probely even say hello and good evening.

    I see from the comment above some of the motorcycle riders are cops, that explains why they are parked obstructing that fire hydrant like all cops they are above the law.

    GBNET get over there and take pictures of the offending vehicles and post them here like you did at PS 277 with the double parking of the cars then we will start making phone calls to the FDNY and the NYPD to get them summonsed when they block that hydrant.

    All they have to do is park across the street and walk there lazy asses to the coffee bar.

      Johnny Walker is not a hater or a parent of any school age children just a resident who wants to see GBnet go after this serious safety issue with all the energy and vigor he used in previous stories such as PS 277 double parking, halloween mischief, kids hanging in skate park and of course the wood chips.

People like you, miserable trash, shouldn’t be allowed to reproduce. Yeah, next time why don’t you walk right up to one of the bikers and throw a dirty diaper right on the bike. I’d like to see that. I’d pay to see that.

          @B Favre, Why do you feel so threatened, and why are you so hostile? The bikers replying on this website are being far more civil than you, while you seem to be acting more like an “outlaw biker” with your threats. If you are going to target people parking at fire hydrants, why not go down the avenue and take pictures of the parking on Florence Avenue by the drugstore, or at the library? Don’t just target one group for your displeasure.

    I think this is bull all these people complaining about what its not like there being bothered and they think that just because there is a place that is nice and a bunch of guys hang out there to have some drinks and hang out with their friends and just because they ride bikes that the neighborhood is going down. The people that are bring down the neighborhood is all the crack head kids so why don’t all you people that have that maybe you should get out of the area. Their stealing their neighbors things out of the yards and all that the bikes aren’t I’m sure if something like that was happening and one of the bikers who you call outlaws would more then likely stop them because I know a couple of them live down here so they wouldn’t want it done to them and their familys so growup

    Hey Johnny Walker, You are missing the whole point. Do you think the bikers have jobs to pay for their bikes, their bills, their families, their kids??? They come from all walks of life. NYPD, FD, NYSANIT, Private Organizations, Plumbers, Electricians, Office Workers. All different jobs. You are very narrow minded and that is very very sad. You are obviously a biggot and and idiot.

      Let me see if i got this right: i’m a biggot and idiot because i voice my concern about motor vehicles of several different types blocking access to the fire dept. water supply.

      Fire hydrants are not personal parking spots for anybody to park on, you with your stupid comment have just given me the push to start reporting this problem to the proper city agencys.

      Now maybe you will get the whole point.

        Wow you just proved how stupid and petty you really are, cause the fire department could definately not get the big hose past the bikes aside from the fact that in the event of a fire and the hydrant being right in front of the place that it would not take much effort to move them! Please you are just a soar loser who will now be like every other Rat and cause problems for Everyone!!! Gerritsen Beach is a Great place and we used to take care of our own. But now thanks to people like you the local authorities as well as other agencies frequent the Beach and take pride in handing out numerous violations. This has only prevented people from spending the money on patronizing our stores, clubs, pubs, boatyards, and improving their homes so we may keep up the beauty of our neighborhood as well as provide for our families as so many in the past have done. Yes the fines are real and they hurt families for just doing what so many others have done here. But yeah you proved your point you are a Rat, cut the crap

          you just confirmed my thought that you know nothing about firefighting the hydrant in question happens to severe more than that shit hole it is in front of.Maybe there might happen to be an emergency other than a fire over there that firefighters will perfer to park on the hydrant to stay out of the roadway so they will have less of a chance of being struck by a speeding asshole while getting on and off the truck and getting equipment out of a compartments.So again keep your shit boxes off the hydrant park them across the street and walk yous lazy asses across to the coffee bar to do whatever it is that you do in there.This RAT as you call me can’t wait to see tickets plastered on the vehicles that are illegally parked.

            You are right I would never want to see anything happen to my fellow firefighters nor would anyone that patronizes that establishment, more of the reason that the bikes would be moved long before the fire trucks get there. Once again proving my theory that you just have a dislike for chane or anything new. I wish you would just come hang out on Friday or Saturday night so you can meet the people instead of worrying about the bikes. You will probably have a great time, introduce yourself there and pose your objections, we are rational people who would love to have an adult conversation with you over a Latte or a beer.

    O.K. all winter I really did not notice people at Amici, it was pretty quiet. After reading these posts I made

    a point of noticing the place tonight when I drove by. I really hate to say this but it did look bad,

    first of all the music was loud, doors open, people, mostly men dressed in leather :-) sitting outside on

    beach chairs, motorcycles all over. Now I really don’t believe that these people are a problem, like other people

    mentioned just because they ride motorcycles does not make them bad and a few of my friends do ride and

    work for NYPD and maybe stop by there also, but hanging out on the sidewalk where people have to walk by

    is not the way to go, first of all I don’t think that the owner should allow their customers too sit outside on

    the sidewalk and be served without a permit for the use of the sidewalk. This situation would be much better

    if they closed the doors, turned on the Air conditioner

    and hung out inside the place than no one could really complain, guess many of

    you of course will disagree with me, but that that was my first reaction when I saw the place tonight.
