It is already partly fenced in, is not heavily residential, would not be too close to already existing recreational facilities for established sports or children's playgrounds. Currently it is a haven for ticks because of the tall, dense weeds. The heavy equipment from Dept. of Highways and/or the golf course, not far down Flatbush Avenue, could also be contracted to routinely mow it short. It is municipal space that has been wasted for years except as a visual barrier to the golfing greens, and a sometimes campground for homeless and illegal dump. The dogs could get a good solid run there, chasing each other or a ball. Then there would be no excuses for loose, unmanaged dogs and their chronically clueless owners. I walk 2 miles with my dog from a park poor area to get there 4-5x mornings a week in all kinds of weather so he can get some real exercise. I clean up after my dog willingly, & gladly as the majority dog owners do. I don't want parasites to be spread, messes to be made or have any reason for this privilege , for which I am very grateful, to be terminated. Strong, fast, energetic & social dogs get some real good running & playing done. Helps them to be good citizens. Dog runs are fine for fragile & timid & layed back animals. And by the way, it would be nice to have a dog run in Gerritsen Beach. It is not fair to either community, or the surrounding neighborhoods, to consider them as the same for political & economic decisions. I like it just the way it is.

It is hard for us owners of small dogs to feel it is safe or wise to allow our little guys to run with the big fellows. I have been to several Manhattan Parks where both runs peacefully exist side by side. The runs I have been to are always staffed by at least one volunteer attendant and there are strict rules regarding acceptable behavior by dogs and their owners. @LQuinlan,
