Gerritsen Avenue Construction NOT Green Streets

DSC_3759

Despite the constant barrage of speculation with emails like “OMG!!1! THE AVE IS GETIN GREEN STREETS!” & “is the green streets comin tru?” NO this is not green streets.

The re-paving is going from the Point to Seba, and in front of 277.

If by some odd chance the DOT didn’t get the memo and we were all lied to, we should probably stage a small revolution (but only after they install “green streets” by 277 and the point.

If you don’t know what Green Streets was/is, it was a plan to place a small curb/sidewalk/something down the center of Gerritsen Avenue, with a little bit of green and to create more parking spots, obviously it was shot down.

No, it would have remained drivable. It would have made more difficult to be a race track though. Guess you weren’t paying any attention.

          Hi Mike, here you are.
After you accused me of not knowing what I was talking about in reference to the B31 bus, I sent you a reply. I guess YOU weren’t paying any attention either because I’m still waiting for this great rebuttal you promised me.

In follow-up to our first alert, we called Councilman Lew Fidler’s office, and were advised, they had no more knowledge about what DOT was doing than we did. Called Road Management Office at DOT, and got the by-the-numbers-run-around, and left a message. Have not heard back, but will continue to try to reach Bklyn. Boro Commissioner, Palmieri, to find out what is on the horizon. While there are differences of opinion about “Green Streets”, those who were opposed to it made up the majority in attendance when a public hearing was held. Why the surprise, if it is going in over the objections of what may be the majority in our community. The politicians didn’t hesitate to overturn term limits voted into being–not once, but twice–by a majority throughout the city. Our local representatives, Weiner, Golden, Maisel, Fidler, attend the GB Property Owner’s meetings (Next meeting, Wednesday, May 6th). If you don’t make time to express your opinions to your representatives when you have a chance, all that may be left is to express frustration over the internet. At the last two meetings, young men and women in their late teens attended, and very orderly, expressed their opinions. We should all be doing that. Stand up for our community before it’s only a memory.

They are doing the whole ave from point to school. The reason they did it how it is now, is due to the little league parade that was this weekend. The parade had permits, etc… The whole ave is being repaved, not divided. I work for a local utility and found this out from an official in DOT. The ave will remain how it was up til the milling process started…except no more pot holes(see how long that last).

That you GB.net for acting like a child and helping with the bs that killed Green Streets. I hope you are happy when another kid gets hit (I hope this does not happen). Green streets was a great chance for us to insure the safety of our children for slowing cars on Gerritsen ave and yet you are to bold headed to see change for good. Im sure that the politicians that were trying to help are done with helping Gb after being attacked.

Many ppl feel this way and are to worried what everyone else will say to actually speak out or they get yelled over by the others who win their agruements like children instead of sitting down and talking out the pros and cons like men and women.

Green Streets was a poor plan with no thought of the Community. Simple questions like how would an emegency vehicle get through with all of the double parking could not be answered. Police and traffic cops cannot patrol up and down the avenue all day clearing the way. Other questions regarding the width of the parkings spaces could not be answered. In the drawings and plans car doors would be swung out into traffic putting a higher risk of injury. These are some of the reasons Green Streets were killed. If you want traffic to slow down Traffic Lights and Stop Signs do that very well. FYI a Traffic Light would cost around a hundred thousand whereas Green Streets was going to cost tax payers 8 hundred thousand.

Agree Anon…at the Green Streets meeting, people asked questions which the DOT & politicians could not answer. Instead of answering that they didn’t know or would have to find out or that the project had been based on other roads & not completely tailored for Gerritsen Avenue, they took the questions as an attack & decided on the spot to end the project.

At what point during the meeting were people attacked for the ethnicity. Questions were brought up about the parking situation, emergency vehicle access and traffic lights. Reps from the DOT did not have any answers and Marty Golden declared Green Streets a dead issue. If the DOT and Marty bothered to ask the Community for suggestions before the meeting we might have a viable solution in place. How hard would it be to get a hand out or suggestion form to the residents of GB.

You obviously were not listening or didnt care much,

They (meaning the loud mouths in the back against the Green streets) were yelling over everyone else and calling names etc like they were back in 277 for classes not a gorwn up meeting.

either way GB.net is killing some great ideas for our community by misguiding or steering small minded ppl. I wish you would really turn into some sort of reporter and start being objective.

              1. Did you know I was FOR Green Streets?

              2. Avail says:

Funny…being small minded is not looking at the bigger picture which is what you are doing. You called Green Streets a great idea but when confronted with problems that needed addressing no answers were given. Yes the idea of plants and shrubs would beautify the area but is not a safe idea, other options were offered but since they do not make the area cosmetically appealing they will never be put into effect. Politicos in the area only look for things they can take a photo in front of. A traffic light or stop sign are not very photogenic.
Now for you lesson, The First Amendment allows me my opinion as well as posting it on this website.
                Class dismissed
GB keep doing what you are doing.

OH stop it green streets was dangerous !

If this neighborhood every had to be evacuated in the case of a Storm, Flood, fires etc how in the hell would approx

1000 cars with us in them traveling out of the beach and large numbers of emergency vehicles trying to get in the beach be

able to go any place it would be one very BIG traffic Jam and I for one did not want to see that happen because of

one lane in each direction????????? That is what green streets would have left us with !

You need to take a walk outside of GB and see how well opther neighborhoods with the same problems perform.

I was at the meeting and DOT said they were open to suggestion and would change it to suite the area.

    to bad

    to late
