Oh, and yes, shopping, hopefully at markets of all kinds. Something like what so many bays and waterside places all over the world have -- all nautical and inviting. When things settle down and the paranoia wanes, the “plot” will look more like a simple desire to have Sheepshead Bay like a bay — with fish, boats, people, visitors, fishing, food, dining, views, fresh air. Oh, and yes, shopping, hopefully at markets of all kinds. Something like what so many bays and waterside places all over the world have — all nautical and inviting.

In the 80s when it was starting to show its age, this city rose to the occasion and announce the revitalization of all of Sheepshead Bay. I remember seeing illustrations of pedestrian malls, unique boutique shops, restaurants and coffee shops. Where else in Brooklyn could you find the unique atmosphere Sheepshead Bay had to offer. So the city pursued diligently to makes Sheepshead Bay a shining star of what can be accomplished, when the cooperation of community leaders, politicians and local business owners got together. Then the reality sets in. First to occupy one of the prize parcels of land was a insurance company. Followed by a 3 story retail department store all but eliminating the hopes of small upstart retail businesses in the area. After that display of mismanagement, they felt that six-story apartment houses and multi-condo structures would also fit in very well. Why have restaurants and coffee shops when we can have a Dunkin’ Donuts. The pedestrian mall??? No, let’s have parking meters instead. And one wonders why there are so many discontent citizens in our community today. Sheepshead Bay, oh what memories.

Why did they wait so long, and allow all that money to be invested , and then put through a Stop Work order? All those empty condos and co-ops along Emmons Avenue aren't going to preserve Sheepshead Bay. They are slowly going to decay with noone buying them or living in them. And the fishing fleet is slowly being decimated for many reasons. And so it just goes on and on. As Anonymous said, Lundys is not Lundys anymore. And it never will be again.
