So, tell the truth. Did anyone besides Carl Kruger think that the new tenant of the Lundys building was going to be able to repair and paint the walls, windows, and doors without first taking down the awnings and lettering? Anyone who has ever done this type of work knows that it had to be done to properly paint, etc… . Anyhow, the old awnings were in terrible condition. Just look at the condition of the building where the japanese restaurant and other tenants are and you can see how run down the place used to look. When is the Senator going to hold a press conference and demand that those other tenants clean up the outside of their “landmarked” Lundys establishment? I’ll be waiting.
Carl AKA “Freddy” Kruger is a complete tool & a blowhard. I can’t believe that guy ever got elected and what’s worse is still in office. Remember his famous initiative to ban people from walking around & talking on their cell phones? That’s what all his constituents where clamoring for I guess instead of all the other issues going on in our neighborhoods. We really need to pay attention who we vote for or we deserve these incompetent elected officials we get.
Sheepshead Bay, oh what memories.
In the 80s when it was starting to show its age, this city rose to the occasion and announce the revitalization of all of Sheepshead Bay. I remember seeing illustrations of pedestrian malls, unique boutique shops, restaurants and coffee shops. Where else in Brooklyn could you find the unique atmosphere Sheepshead Bay had to offer. So the city pursued diligently to makes Sheepshead Bay a shining star of what can be accomplished, when the cooperation of community leaders, politicians and local business owners got together.
Then the reality sets in. First to occupy one of the prize parcels of land was a insurance company. Followed by a 3 story retail department store all but eliminating the hopes of small upstart retail businesses in the area. After that display of mismanagement, they felt that six-story apartment houses and multi-condo structures would also fit in very well. Oh, why have little restaurants and coffee shops when we can always have a Dunkin’ Donuts.
The pedestrian mall? No, let’s have parking meters instead.
And one wonders why there are so many discontented citizens in our community today.

Lundy’s is gone…let’s move on, the bay is no longer the same. The awnings are awful, who cares?
