Replacing what used to be Citgo is now a:
- Nail salon
- Doggy day care
- Wine and spirits store called “We Speak Wine”.
- A vacant store
Why is all the signage different and all being drilled directly into the brick?
They also seem to have 2 or 3 parking spots on what looks like the sidewalk? Did they just paint lines on the sidewalk and call them “spots”. If they are legitimate “spots”, where is the handicap spot which must be included by some sort of magic math ratio?

Thank you GBnet for this observation.
I’m also interested to see how these cars maneuver while backing out into traffic on a usually congested gerritsen ave.
I’m surprised there not using Scotch tape to install the signs above the store because I don’t think they’ll be in business that long with a location like that.
This is another example of contractors dictating the landscape of our neighborhood.

I passed this location the other day and was quite surprised to see cars parked on the sidewalk. Wouldn’t they need a permit and proper signage to do this? It didn’t even appear that the curb was cut for an entrance or exit…and no lines were drawn on the concrete designating the spaces…shady!!

…and not to mention that there are no curb stops. I can just imagine one of those cars smashing through the front plate glass windows.

not sure about the other two stores, but my wife checked out the nail place and it was jammed pack and cheap too.
The parking is confusing though, they need to paint more lines or something.

Of course another liquor store would open. Just another place for the minors of gerritsen beach to go and purchase some liquor. The doggy day care will be out of business before the summer. Can someone explain to me why there has been nothing on block where Captain Video used to be for like 7 years now.

There is 2 curb stops and lines painted now. Anyone know if it is legal to have an entrance/exit to a parking spot like that, IN the bus stop?

The entire block of Avenue U between Coyle Street & Bragg Street, with the exception of the old Captain Video site and Hy Friedman site is a fully functioning business. I kid you not, it may not look like it from the front, which still looks like a closed furniture store, but it is an Eyeglass Production Facility. The apparently carry on their business from the rear of the building as the front is all closed up. I guess because it is a factory type business, they do not feel the need to make any changes out front. Pretty dreary and desolate looking though, don’t you think.

I don’t get how there could be parking there…it’s a local bus stop and the express bus stops there also. Accident before it happens!!!

Went in to Rosco’s Doggy Day Care to check out the place, price & services. Totally unimpressed. The place smelled, the guy behind the desk barely acknowledged me. When I told him I was there to look at the prices, he pointed to the wall. I could hear dogs in the back but wasn’t able to see the facilities. If they treated me in such a poor manner, there’s no way I’m taking my dogs there.

i drop my 2 labs off all the time there and never had a problem. they are ALOT cheaper then all the other yuppie park slope day cares. never had a problem with the workers there either, they seem very experianced actually. the nail salon is very good also. alot of manicurists at all times so there never is a wait.

I went last night to the liquir store on Gerritsen and ave U wow what a clean store and a great variety of wines. Soon as i came in they asked me if i need any help. The older gentelman helped me a great deal by explayning about the wines i was looking for. The prices on the wines and are very good and they also said they do deliveries.

I’ll tell you one thing, that entire block looks alot better now that its not an old gas station. I’m pretty happy that the new building went up. I work across the street at Key Food and its a better site than seeing what used to be there.

how often do they do this??? i will stop by them this evening to find out. im happy that it is more of an upscale distributer rather than this other cheap booze suppliers in the area that just focus on hard liquor. im glad that i wont have to travel half way accross brooklyn now for a good bottle of wine.

Nicholas,
There is a great wine store not far from this one. Tops Liquor, on Avenue U between E.28 & E.29. There is no reason to “travel half way across brooklyn” for a good bottle of wine. This store has a huge selection and very knowledgeable staff.

Gerrittsen Beach HAS a liquor store with a nice wine selection. They will also order anything that you request. I don’t understand how people can complain when there are closed up storefronts on the Ave, when the same residents spend their money eleswhere. Its not always about paying alittle more, its about supporting our own neighborhood businesses. When anyone runs any kind of fundraiser in the Beach, schools, whatever, they go to the Beach businesses and they step up. They should be thanked by all of us by our patronage. Keep your money in your own neighborhood whenever you can!!

I agree about the GB liquor store. They really brightened the place up & have a great selection. Also, they are just great people. I was admiring glasses in their display case & they insisted I have them.

I got my dog groomed by Roscoe’s and they did a great job on my yorkie for a very reasonable price. As far as the boarding goes, I much rather board my dog there than at a vet with sick animals escpecially since they do not uses cages. Overall, me being a person from the beach that is constantly traveling due to business circumstances, is extremely happy with the services that was performed. Not only that but I would rather see puppies anyday of the week instead of an old busted down gas station that was previously there.

So many AD like comments, maybe the store should consider advertising :)
It looks way better than it used to – don’t think anyone can deny that. Glad people have had good experiences with the dog place…but, like comment #13, I was treated very poorly when I went to check the place out. Maybe they have better animal than people skills but I’m the person who’s going to pay them and to make such a poor first impression with a brand new business is just bad business.

I went to Tops liquir store on ave U and E28 street. i waited for over 20min while their “knowledgeable staff” took care of the jewish customers. When i asked for advise from one of the sales rep he pointed me to one of the sections in the store and went back to other customers that came in after me. i was very disapointed in the customer service in that store. i would never go back there again. I thought they were very nasty to me. There prices were not so great. From what i saw most of there wines are kosher and there other selection of wines is horobale.

wine village and tops blows away that wine stores selection. my sister in law told me she couldnt keep a straight face when the middle aged man with glasses was trying to explain wines to her when he was completely shitfaced and slurring. im guessing he is the owner because if he wasnt i bet that he would be fired. i guess ill give them another shot because i need to stock up on a few things and they do discounts on bulk purchases she said. prices are good, selection is OK.
