Beware: PS 277 Parking Enforcment Coming Next Week
If you park in or around PS 277 you need to know that starting Monday March 9th the 61st Precinct will be strictly enforcing parking and traffic laws during the morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. Don’t double park! Don’t pass a bus with flashing reds! Don’t make any u-turns! I wouldn’t even stick around within the solid while line for too long. Bravo 61st precinct!

Bravo GB Association for their part in ending this daily madness in front of the 277!
Living around the corner, I frequently need to maneuver around the selfish disconnected parents who blatantly double and triple park in addition to parking in front of the bus stop and fire hydrants along the Avenue, so their little darlings don’t need to walk 100 feet to Avenue W. Before one of these parents calls me a grumpy old man, do you ever take a moment to consider the danger you’re putting your child and other children in by forcing them walk into traffic to get to your car that maybe 15-20 feet from the curb? The traffic that needs to maneuver around your double and triple parked cars requiring them to go into the safety zone in the middle of the Avenue, putting any pedestrian at risk. Let’s just hope the police and safety and traffic controllers have plenty of ink in their pens.

Stopping by this week and letting it known will not stop this. The only way to stop it is to continually do this. If they come around for a few days this week it will be the same old mess again afterwards.

Monday morning start calling the precinct if you see double parkers, etc. Don’t wait, act. The traffic laws are to be followed by everyone. Call the main number at the 61 precinct which is 718-627-6611. Report that this is an ongoing problem and is going on now. You can remain anonymous if you feel uncomfortable using your name, but remember, you are not breaking the law, they are. If you see something, say something.

No, you dont have to call the Precinct they will be there already.
an that’s great! but we as a community have to come up with a solution to this problem. I think that
having the older grades go in early and then 15 minutes later the next group and then the littles
ones 15 minutes later. I know that parents that have more than one child in the school will think
this is crazy but if someone else has a better solution bring it on! They also have to realize it is drop
and go. they have a teacher at the door and just wave the parents on. otherwise maybe they
should have the school bus come up cyrus, seba and lois at different stops of pick-ups if the problem
is the pick on gerritsen ave. Some kind of a solution has to made. Last week i watched as an
ambulance was coming down the avenue i need not tell you what that was like.

That would seem to make sense, but it would involve teachers staying an extra half-hour every day, and there is not a snowballs chance in hell that they would do that.

you might be right but if they care about the school and the kids the teachers could take turns until a better solution to this problem is solved. if not a teacher why not parents volunteer the time to help out after all it is their children

Is this being done at all schools citywide? or are we being targeted? If it is an action that is being enforced all over then it is fine, but if not then why just us?

Get a grip dude. Ok the problem is here we don’t care about every other school. Have ya been out there? The parents go crazy and make traffic crazy and put other children that do walk in harms way!!

Anonymous, I am one of the parents that drops his kid off and does not impede traffic or endanger others, and I see exactly whats going on every morning.And I am one of the people who has almost gotiing hit on more than one occasion by some of these lunatic parents who zip in with no regard, But having a cop sit in a police car with lights flashing is only putting a bandaid on the problem. Unless that cop is gonna be there every morning its all just window dressing.

I dont care if its just us for a few days and not spread evenly. They should do it randomly not just when the community demands it.
If they are doing this when the community demands it, then why don’t they come around when we complain about the cars racing up and down the avenue, or any of the other complaints that residents make? It seems as if they are responding to this because it is an easy one to address, and will not cause them to have to work very hard to correct it
