United States Code Title 4 Chapter 1, Subsection 8)b):

“The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.

I love the fact that they are doing this, BUT the 1st person who replyed is correct!!!

In there good deed they are actually disrespecting the flag because it is on the ground!
They should be laid on the table or folded correctly.

Is it truly a “good deed” if the deed is not carried out properly? Seems more like a lazy, half ass deed to me. However Im sure the soldiers who shed blood and died for your right to use our flag with all of the reverence of a picnic blanket, probably had your little BBQ/kegger parade in mind when they sacrificed their lives.
Our Forefathers would have wanted to see these pictures on the Internet if they had one back then. Thanks for posting them. I wonder what old George, Abe, Ben and Tom would comment? hummmm It might go a little like this. Good Sir, such “care” and attention paid to a “good deed” should not only be criticized but also recognized for the patriotic flag waving rhetoric that it has become. Hopefully then action will be taken to change this blatant disrespect of The Flag and symbol of our nation displayed for all to see by its own “caring” citizens.

I think, in this particular case, the spirit of what they’re doing in trying to have us remember the very soldiers you mention and this great nation (NOT the cynical BBQ/kegger comment) is more important than the fact that the flag tips are touching the ground. Please, our own postal service puts flags on stamps with currency all over it; people inadvertantly leave the flag out in the rain or facing the wrong direction, etc. This should be corrected – but to go to the lengths you do in your criticism is missing the forrest for the trees and reminds me of certain biblical parables like the one about pulling an ox from a ditch on the Sabbath re: zealots for the letter of the law.

Blah blah blah. Jibber-Jabber. Clueless. Yes, I will be the first to admit I am cynical, (OK, sarcastic and critical too) but so what? My attitude or outlook on things has absolutely no bearing on the fact that there is not a single thing “particular” to the situation here. Furthermore, It is a shame that no one took the small effort necessary to pay our flag its due respect in the first place. Let alone document the disgrace and have the audacity to put up the photos saying look what “caring” patriots are we. In fact it is the attitude that the “particular situation” is exactly that (particular in this instance or different from any other situation) which is the root of the problem. If you are going to bend the rules to suit your “situation” it had better warrant it. If it does not than it is simply put nothing more than indifference. Or am I not privy to some information? What was it that made this situation so particular, that no one had a second to spare for Old Glory herself? What was it? War? Riot? Upstart? Terrorism? Anarchy in the streets of GB that day? Or was your beer just getting warm?
I am not completely negative or cynical as you put it mind you. For instance, I am positive that meaning well and doing well are obviously (to some) two very different things. In this day and age the last thing we can afford is to be indifferent toward the symbol of our nation. Defending such actions anonymously? Shame on you! It is almost worse than committing the act yourself. <HINT
It is you my friend who “cannot see the woods through the trees” (I’m pretty sure that’s what you were trying to say anyway). The point I made was crystalline in its clarity. Unlike your cloudy, unintelligible references to postage stamps, currency, rain, direction and such. Unfortunately for you, I’m afraid it seems you have only contributed to the rhetoric of which I was referring. Synonyms: bombast, gas, grandiloquence, hot air, oratory, wind
Related Words: claptrap, drivel, gibberish, hogwash, humbug, jabberwocky, jazz, moonshine, nonsense; affectedness, floweriness, grandiosity, loftiness, pomposity, pretension, pretentiousness; verboseness, verbosity, windiness, wordiness.
As far as your “bible parables” are concerned, I will quote the late George Carlin who once said “Beware of people who use spooky language” and would like to point out that your religious beliefs are an entire matter separate from this one and has no relevance to the subject here what so ever. A poor analogy at best.
Perhaps that is exactly why our Forefathers came up with the idea of a United States Constitution and in it’s Bill of Rights included something called, The First Amendment. Try putting down that bible of yours and study it instead sometime when ya have the chance. It’s not nearly as full of sex and violence but I’m sure you will find it a much better read and not as confusing and misleading.
If my cynical remark was not “in the spirit” of things, SO BE IT! And if “in this particular case” it offends? GOOD! It is only because it has obviously made you feel shame or must ring true with you on some level.

While I have pity for someone who intentionally disrespects the flag, our soldiers fight, and have fought, for the right to piss on it if we so choose. In other countries you’d be hung from a pole in a soccer stadium. In this country we pity the fool. Our power lives in the principals of our Constitution, without that our flag means diddly squat. I’m sure GB Cares will be more careful next time, but they still have my appreciation for putting all those beautiful flags up.

SNAPPP GOES THE TRAPP!!! No free more cheese here silly ratt. Hows it feel with the steel down on your neck like that?

Next time? That’s it? Next, time huh?
Dismissed as still more rhetoric from the phantom peanut gallery.
Great…Another coward and a dim wit too all in one this time.
This will be the last time I do you cowards a favor and address any more nameless chimps or anonymous simpletons on this matter. Besides the fact that you would obviously have no idea how to use said flag pole properly to hang me from. Therefore you wont be able to partake in on your visions of my public lynching. Also, that’s the A-team you are talking about when you were referring to your pitiful foolishness, not the United States Constitution, Lamont you big dummy! Although I must say your Mr. Tee impersonation however dim wittily unintentional it was, (Although it pales in comparison to my Redd Foxx) I still found it very amusing. Especially when you see the actual reference to rhetoric itself in the Urban Dictionary’s definition of the cath phrase:
Urban Dictionary: In Mr. T-glish, a rhetoric comment equivalent to the English “I’d best not find out who it was.”
Thanks for inadvertently helping to reinforce my point!
The idea of your wishing me swinging by my neck “in other countries,” (while harsh but still amusing) only gives me a deeper respect for the principals this country was founded on. This in turn produces a genuine and healthy respect (not reverence) for the symbols of our country regardless of my right to “piss” on them if I chose to do so. Also, I’m sure there are plenty of like minded people right here in the good ol’ US of A who would see to it, you too would hang by your neck too for being a pissing, flag burning, animal you describe. Although I am cynical I am no where that narrow minded.
Just like the amusing fool you are and describe, you hide behind a mask and dance about waving the flag in one hand while you “piss on” one (your fantasy not mine) with the other and expect not to be called out as a hypocrite, guilty of being indifferent and full of rhetoric? It is in fact you here who are revealed as the self loathing fool.
Id love to hear what other forms of communist dictatorship you have in store for me there Mussolini mind…but don’t expect a reply unless you have something intelligent to say. Then again, I realize that’s asking a lot of a foolish coward who either can’t figure out how to log in first, or is too ashamed to do so. Surely a fool could never have anything to say besides foolishness in the first place anyway. So on second thought, don’t bother. My opinion has been voiced here already clear and bold for all to see signed, sealed and delivered. I can not put it to you in a more simple way, so if your not getting it by now try as you may, you probably wont ever get it at all.
If you think the flags are so beautiful then keep them UP “next time”… ptffffffffff. The whole time. Or at least long enough to snap a picture before you go and crow about what a patriot you are.
So I guess what I’m trying to say here, mine Coward Furor Nazi General (division of rhetoric) of the Communist Phantom Peanut Gallery, is apology accepted my friend of lesser intelligence.
In closing I say to you my fellow American, “next time” wipe your ass with it for all I care and I will defend with my very life your right to do so. Just don’t be foolish enough to advertise it and call yourself a “caring” patriot and expect not to be called to the carpet on it you twit. Should you be hung for this? (thats seems to be your school of thought) No how. Should you even be convicted for such behavior? No way. What you should be is exactly what you have been made you look here…totally and thoroughly embarrassed.

Mr. ‘Beach Ratt Trapp’ (I guess that’s your real name since you blast people for not incuding theirs), You are in serious need of help – especially with reading comprehension. You sir are an ass, but a somewhat amusing one – like a circus donkey.

            Ahhh, FINALLY…
The TRUE sign of TOTAL defeat, with absolutely NO valid argument left at all on your half, what-so-ever. It’s the proverbial (as well as always off topic) attack on spelling or grammar. Always so cliche. You make it apparent that you have been reduced to desperately grasping at straws…but donkeys love straw! Your “ass” is showing again my friend. ^^^ Still full of MORE blatant RHETORIC^^^ LITERALLY!
You’ve GOT to be kidding me. Seriously, a “rhetorical” question this time. Ha. WTF. This has already become redundant a long time ago anyway, so what the hell.

Thank you once again for unwittingly reinforcing my original point, over and over, time and time again, no matter how hard you try not to. I even put it to you in a metaphoric type analogy this time, admittedly by definition in rhetoric itself. You should at the very least be aquatinted with the word by now and YOU STILL DON’T GET IT? Bull Sh!t. Either you are a complete imbecile and will never learn or you just enjoy being humiliated. I’d like to believe the latter (I’d hate to believe that any one could be that obtuse.)
In any case, at risk of using another rhetorical figure of speech you will fail to comprehend the meaning of. Being that you obviously lack a definition of the word rhetoric itself (even though one here has previously been provided for you). Here it goes anyway. Further shame on you still, for anonymously “Flogging a dead horse” on this issue. You are a real glutton for punishment. If you still don’t understand at this point, don’t get frustrated and just continue to type stupidity. (If not for your own sake than for the sake of your neighbors, who were actually somewhat genuine in there apology about the “mistake”)
If by the off chance your question is NOT purely rhetorical and you ARE that ignorant — than PLEASE allow me to answer…
No, no, no silly. NOT AT ALL you simple, toad stool, sample. You’ve got it all wrong and you see absolutely NOTHING. You are truly blinded by what it is you THINK you ‘see.’
Unfortunately, you have failed to comprehend a single word as usual. Perhaps you should try focusing on more than just the word crap in the future Beavis. (how adolescent of you) The intended point of the metaphor should then be quite clear to any one of at least average intelligence (probably even less than average). If by then you still can’t quite seem to grasp it. Don’t get discouraged. Just keep it to yourself. Hey, what the hell at least you TRIED to catch on.
After all I do understand that, “One is taught, in accordance to one’s fitness to learn.”
So for me to further scold your ignorance intentional or otherwise, would only add further insult to obvious injury. I may be cynical but I’m not a sadist, so you will need to fill your masochistic tendencies elsewhere from now on.
…You are dismissed, again. Your welcome and better luck ‘next time.’

GB Cares would love help with the work required for the flags (about 400 volunteer hours each year) or any other GBC activity. We meet every Saturday at Gerritsen Avenue and Channel Avenue between 8:30 & 9 a.m. We give the Boy Scouts the old flags each year to properly retire them during a ceremony. Our intent was not to have the 1 inch tip of the flags touching the ground. To anyone that has a problem with the way we display or change out the old flags please stop by and help. This way you can make sure next time no mistakes are made.

      Mike,

Your are absolutely right to ask those that have commented on the flags to come out and assist GB Cares with their many efforts to improve the neighborhood. If more people volunteered just a few hours of their time each month, just think of the great strides that could be made in the neighborhood. I do however think you need to honestly admit that the flags were indeed unintentionally disrespected. It is clear that more than just the bottom tips of the flagpoles were touching the ground. In the photo above, you can clearly see that several flags are actually laying in the dirt. this should not take away from the noble task your group were performing, but you must be understanding as to why many individuals were upset by what they saw.

I believe several of the people who help with the flag program are veterans of several different wars/conflicts and they were not upset by this. It is difficult to get supervisors to direct the community service workers to get all the projects done. Feel free to come up and help, train and share your knowledge. Be a part of the solution.
