Gerritsen Beach Hit by Huge & Illegal Windshield Flyer Campaign

DSC_1745

If you woke up this morning to find an annoying flyer under your windshield your not alone. Premier Ford (5001 Glenwood Rd Brooklyn, NY 11234) thought it would be a good idea to hit ALL Gerritsen Beach residents cars and homes today.

Placing any advertising on a vehicle is not new the law has been on the books since 2003, and says the placement of handbills and other advertisements on the windshield, under windshield wipers, on rear windows, side mirrors, antennas, door handles and other parts of the vehicle body are prohibited.

Fines start at $75 for each handbill, poster, sticker, or other form of advertisement. Therefore, when ten flyers are found on vehicles in a one-block stretch, the distributor can be fined $750. Repeat offenders may subsequently be fined up to $150 for each flyer. Any person or group whose name, telephone numbers, or other identifying information appearing on the handbill will be responsible for the violation and fine. The Environmental Control Board issues all summonses issued in New York City.

When asked, a manager at Premier Ford pleaded ignorance of the law, but thanked me for informing them of their mistake. Everyone should know the general rule that ignorance of a law or a mistake of law is not a valid defense or excuse.

Call 311 to report it.

The word is out and I feel confident I won’t be seeing any more annoying fliers on my windshield anytime soon, at least not from Premier Ford.

Did everyone know that POPULAR FORD on Coney Island Ave closed last month FOR GOOD ?

I will be going to Premier Ford soon to buy an American made car and I will make it a point not to mention I live in the beach until AFTER I make a deal.

    2. This is the same thing, as the windshield flyers, you can report it and it will have the same effect.

Whenever I hear that flyers left on someone’s vehicle annoys them so much, my first thought is they have deeper anger issues and chances are, there is a lot of little thing in their lives that gets them upset. “Don’t thouch my car” reminds me of a couple of kids in the back seat crying to their mommy, “junior touched me mommy”… “junior, stop touching your sister.”

For small businesses trying to get the word out is a huge expense, an expense that many cannot afford, yet there aren’t a lot of jobs out there either; it just seems as though the world is filled with a lot of angry people running out of things to complain about.
