Top of the Hill Knapp Vandalism

On top of the hill at Knapp Street, there is a new construction that completely replaced the existing gas station.

Recently the front glass and walls have been covered with graffiti.

The owners kept it pretty open to vandalism. They should have some kind of security. Have the ho’s at the Golden Gate take turns watching it.

One more side effect of our ailing economy, a double edge sword for sure. One side, it slowed the onslaught of construction into our neighborhood the other leaves all these half build structures to wander by the wayside creating an eyesore for our community. It would be nice if our city leaders create a law requiring news construction companies to place in escrow monies that would pay for the removal of the structure if they were unable to complete the project. Just a dream for sure.

It’s disgusting that people can do such a thing. It’s not just on the glass doors that can be replaced, but on the brick walls. They had a construction wall around this site for a while and soon as they took it down some kids ruined it.

  • Although it looks like vandalism, it may not be. Why would they stop at just hitting the doors and some masonry in between? In some instances in construction, the inspectors for a particular are of construction will paint objects showing the contractor that they are not in conformance with the job specifications and/or drawings. Look at the picture, there is no paint in the main curtainwall glass. Moreover, if you look at the other picture that Danny took showing the sidewall, there is no paint. If I were into graffiti, I would have hit that nice clean almond colored wall, if I were into graffiti.

For the record, the grafitti can easily be removed with the proper product and power washing. The owners can even have the removal done by the City if they contact the Mayor’s Grafitti Free NY Program. Surprisingly they provide this service at no charge. I have seen them in action in the past. The grafitti just runs off the surface and is washed away with no trace. That is the good news. The bad news is that we still have losers living among us that get some perverse pleasure out of causing destruction to other peoples property. Hopefully the City will find a way to continue cracking down on these quality of life crimes despite the bad economy so that we don’t have to return to the bad old days that we endured years ago.
