Frank Court Pond

DSC_0438

Grab your boats and swimmies folks! Come on down to frank court, where the DOT was kind enough to install this man made pond/ice skating rink. There is no telling how deep the center is because I left my kayak at home. If I had to guess, I would say the pond is about 20 feet wide to maybe 50 feet long.

On a serious note:
An incredibly large “lake” forms on Frank Ct every time it rains or snows and its because of an incredibly stupid reason. The Department of Transportation (DOT) decided around 2 months ago to put black top by the sewer; effectively blocking the flow of water. It blocks the water so well that it leaves 1-4 inches of water on half the block.

Residents have called 311 who sent the DEP who in turn promised they would contact the DOT. The issue was also brought to Marty Golden’s office but according to residents nothing was followed up on. With nothing being done, residents are trying to do what they can by throwing down salt to soften or melt the ice so a car doesn’t end up in one of their living rooms.

I even did some video on this:

I have been living with the lake since 2001 . I have call 311 and reported it quite a few times
I was always told somebody would come and look at it , i have pictures and conformation, numbers i have been told the the dot said we are not entiled to a repaving of the street,
because it was done at least 25-30 years ago. i have given pictures to Frank Seddio’s office and got no where. I need help before a car comes a visit me the easy way thru my livingroom wall , because on the ice.
    thank you

THANK YOU FOR SHOWING OUR LAKE. WE HAVE CONTACTED NUMEROUS POLITICIANS
AND HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY RESPONSE. LAST YEAR AT A TOWN HALL MEETING AT THE VOLLIES HALL I ASKED SEVERAL OF THE POLITICIANS TO COME TO FRANK COURT TO SEE THIS
PROBLEM. THEY CAME AND COMMENTED ON WHAT A SERIOUS PROBLEM IT WAS AND THAT THEY WOULD SEND SOMEBODY TO FIX IT. WE ARE STILL WAITING. EACH YEAR THIS PROBLEM GETS WORSE AND THE GROUND SINKS LOWER. WHEN THE STREET CAVES IN ONE DAY I DON’T WANT THE CITY TO SAY THAT IT WAS “AN ACT OF GOD”. THIS IS AN ACT OF INCOMPOTENCE ON THE PART OF NEW YORK CITY.

This is the wonderful work of DOT. I guess the politicians expect these agencies to do a follow-up but that’s asking too much of DOT to look for the results of their work.

It’s a shame that these agencies aren’t dependable. I know there are other lakes in Gerritsen. Look at the one on Gain Court over by #13.

Anyone who has a pond on their block should post the block & cross streets. Then as a community, we can start badgering all the politicians who said they would look into the problem.

There is also a pond in the middle of Canton Ct. between Seba & Lois Aves. The street is SINKING in the middle……Could it become a “sink hole”?

We have an even bigger lake on Eaton between Bartlett and Cyrus. You cant make it down the block and forget trying to get out of your car. We have reported this too many times to count. It’s fun in the summer when the mosquitos surround it so you can get West Nile even quicker. One time DEP came to check it out….they dropped a bucket of black top on THE OTHER END OF THE BLOCK-No where near the lake!! If we lived by Ocean Parkway they’d fix it in a second!

I’m on Gain Ct, keyspan installed my gas line and where they opened and closed the street for the installation the blacktop is sinking, now the water runs under my sidewalk along the gas pipe and infiltrates my basement everytime it rains. So I don’t have a puddle on the street, I have it in my basement.

Everyone with a mini pond/huge puddle should start with a quick call to 311 to report it. Provide your address to get a confirmation of your complaint in the mail. The city will look at the stats to see if they should even bother – only numbers will matter.

    put some goldfish in it.

when they get run over, notify hollywood.

then the bleeding heart liberals will have a fund raiser, and get this taken care of.

    problem solved.

I live on Canton Court and there is a river on our block which carries all the garbage from Lois Ave but not to the sewer it ends at my house so I have to sweep it down to the sewer. I also went to meetings and have had promises. Maybe we should all meet see what to do.

You are sweeping the garbage into the creek, not a sewer. Please don’t sweep it into the storm drains, pick it up & dispose of it properly, or I will tell my father.

Maureen if you do not want to swim with the garbage this summer Hank is right. The storm drains go to the bay not the poop plant on Knapp st.Just like the people who change their oil and dump it down the drain and think it gone. Its gone alright Gone to Kiddie beach.People who walk their dogs and pick up the poop and i know its very few But the ones who do and toss it in the storm drain dont help either. Its not good for the Sharkeys or any other fishs either.Save the bay.
