Petition to Save the B31 and B2 Bus Lines from MTA Cuts!

Update:WILL BE TAKEN DOWN SOON!

Paper copies of the petition are available in some stores on Gerritsen Avenue.

Here is what is at stake:

  • Discontinue weekend service on the B2
  • Discontinuing overnight service on the B31. Ouch!
  • Increase express bus fares to $7.50 from $5.
  • Raise the Access-A-Ride fare to make it twice the subway base fare – from $2 to $4, based on current prices.
  • Eliminate the station customer assistants, who help riders outside toll booths. This would cut 596 positions.
  • Close 29 staffed booths in stations that have more than one full-time booth. Reduce staffing to part-time in 13 additional booths.
  • Impose tighter controls on E-ZPass account balances on MTA bridges and tunnels. That will result in more drivers turned away at toll gates and longer lines.

Save Local Bus Service in Gerritsen Beach and Marine Park

We, the undersigned commuters, are calling on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to continue to operate regular bus service on the B31 and B2 lines. We are calling upon the MTA to main the B31 service after midnight, as this bus is the only way into Gerritsen Beach. We also demand that the MTA maintain weekend service on the B2 Line. Both of these bus lines service as a lifeline to the rest of the City for the people of Gerritsen Beach and Marine Park. The service is necessary to commuters, whether they be coming home late from work or shopping on the weekends, and is extremely important to a community like ours that is not served by the City’s subways.
