There is currently two fronts in the Battle of Lundy’s. There is the new tile sidewalk that the tenant Cherry Hill Market laid outside of Lundys violating its landmark status, a landmark status that many fought hard to get. Then there are plans to turn lundys into a market or a type of supermarket to sell fruits and vegetables, which violated Sheepshead Bay local zoning.
Back in September a stop work order was issued by both the DOB and then the Landmarks commission for Cherry Hill Market plan to a retail market and altering its outdoor sidewalk, and building.
Recently, The stop work order was lifted after Cherry Hill revised its DOB application & building plans so that the building could be used as an eating and drinking establishment and not as a market. However, If they do want to become some sort of market all they would have to apply for a variance with the City.
Also, If Cherry Hill Market wants to continue with their tile sidewalk they will have to get permission from CB 15. Which in a strange case of irony, CB15 chairperson Theresa Scavo had a jewelry store in Lundys and was evicted. Maybe she will be a litte harder on Cherry Hill than others….
